Sounds good, except for the high pitched whine all the way through. Is there a dodgy connection? Some of your notes are slightly off - check out my version...
I'm just going to throw this out there, take it or leave it. If I were you I'd really work on my left hand technique. You've got the chops, it's just a matter of mastering the technique. Plus if you did I'm sure your tone would improve and the song would be easier to play.
believe or not its easier to get that pink stronger than the ring finger because the ring actually is missing a tendon bass players refer to it as the dumb finger
it has nothing to do with being lazy! it has to do with the sound. for some songs I like the sound a pick makes better than the sound plucking makes. for some songs I like slap better. it's not laziness it's a difference in oppinion/style.
You must be kidding, that is such ignorance anyone who has the slightest bit of musicianship in them will realize that the way Justin C.(Tool's bassist) plays the song is a way the makes the song sound best. And that's the whole point in music contributing to make the song sound as best as you can get it. People play with a pick because it has benefits that your fingers do not and vice-versa, how about expanding your views?
You did the beggining wrong. It's and open D. It looks like you have it on the second fret on the D. It's third fret on G and an open D. That's just what it looks like though. I'm probably wrong. Don't get mad because that's just what I saw.
i actually meant to say play an open D then hammer on to the 10th and 12th fret of the D string. either way I don't think that's what you're doing. you're just hammering onto the 12th fret from the 10th without hitting the open D first. of course i could be wrong, but that's what it looks and sounds like to me. if you are in fact hitting the open D, then my apologies.
no not really a tool..he doesnt use any effects for the man riff part. it depends on the bass aswel. if you want the exact tone you could try mess around with ur amp..or buy a wal bass like jc's:P
I play bass and i'm trying to get this song worked out but i cant get the part where it hammers on twice from 0 to 10 then 12 like 0h10h12 10 9 0h10h12 10 9 12 0 0 0 0 0
it sounds like crap wen i play it hav u got any tips?
just practice my friend..that vid up there aint the best example coz i was only starting out so the triplets aint as clear but i have it clean now. just practice the hammerons slowly, then keep trying it faster until ya have a nice sound
ok will do just when i do it i get a sort of ringing noise along with it and when i hammer on off 0 (as in no fret) it is extremely quiet and it gets a bad ringing noise so i cant really hammer off 0... yet that is i will just hav to practice it a lot
JC doesnt use his fingers..he gets a finer tone with the pic and im trying to replicate his sound as much as possible. playing with fingers doesnt do schism justice at all, but sure if people feel more comfortable using fingers then by all means go ahead:D
On my bass i can get the almost the same tone with my fingers. If you DO try to do it with your fingers, start out close to the bridge and work your way closer to the pickups. you'll notice a difference in tone when you move from the bridge to the pickups, but you should still be able to almost replicate the sound with practice. :>
I don't know, man. I mean it's good but, you're missing the soul in the notes by playing with a pick. No offense, good shit, just drop the pick and use all of your soul power.
My old band covered this, and I used the pop-and-thump method because I absolutely hate using a pick (I feel so restricted with picks). You actually get more volume with this method, not to mention it's a more respected technique. However, to cover most Tool songs to a "T", a pick is absolutely necessary; if you want to play the song verbatim, but that's just boring. Just an opinion.
yes, I know justin uses a pick. I don't like them, not saying you suck or anything. I'd say this to justin, fingers are more free feeling and everything to me and makes it sound pretty good. I guess he uses it for his like punchy sound that he gets but w/e.
i know yeah..i know myself its not a great video. the triplets are few and far between, its an old video as i stated earlier. practice makes perfect;)
for schism i use the digitech whammy pedal and metal zone distortion. part of me is a great song but we havent yet covered it but its on the cards:D thansk for the comment:D

I have a pathetic pinky and never use it, but I go OCD when i see guitarists and bassists not use a finger. lol weird isn't it?
funkydrummer95 3 years ago
haha yeah. It takes a while to get them strong but once you do you it makes a lot of stuff much easier to play. Looks better too lol

Personally, when I play this, I do it with a pick because i like the attack better.
When I play other stuff where i need a softer sound, I'll do the walk.
But for most metal, you want a pick. Sounds better.

I was thinkin the same thing. I hate to see people play with picks on bass.

like what wachoooom said, some songs are easier to play with picks.
it all depends on the "genre" of the song your playing.
