  • Sounds good, except for the high pitched whine all the way through. Is there a dodgy connection? Some of your notes are slightly off - check out my version...

  • I think you need some tremolo on 4:08 but you pretty much got it. Nice cover

  • wat the hell do u hav 2 buy 2 make the sound effect at 4:08

  • @higyhagd I think it's wah wah, or it might just be whammy.

  • all you have to do to get the pinky strong is scale the bass like 20 times

  • wtf? i messed up.

  • ive got the same bass, Goth thunderbird.

  • wow you make it looks so easy

  • lol are u kidding its like rlly easy

  • not when you dont play! im sure it is a pretty easy song for some one that plays bass. but i dont play bass

  • Nice job at cranking out the song.

I'm just going to throw this out there, take it or leave it. If I were you I'd really work on my left hand technique. You've got the chops, it's just a matter of mastering the technique. Plus if you did I'm sure your tone would improve and the song would be easier to play.

  • use that damn pinky!

  • I have a pathetic pinky and never use it, but I go OCD when i see guitarists and bassists not use a finger. lol weird isn't it?

  • haha yeah. It takes a while to get them strong but once you do you it makes a lot of stuff much easier to play. Looks better too lol

  • believe or not its easier to get that pink stronger than the ring finger because the ring actually is missing a tendon bass players refer to it as the dumb finger

  • haha yeah. It is the first thing I notice when I watch people play. It makes things so much easier.

  • Heck you watch Slash play....he rarely EVER uses his pinky. EVER.

  • awesome cover...i can play everything up till after the bass solo...

  • Good job

  • Personally, when I play this, I do it with a pick because i like the attack better.

When I play other stuff where i need a softer sound, I'll do the walk.

But for most metal, you want a pick. Sounds better.

  • nice you did the outro I suck at the outro

  • like what wachoooom said, some songs are easier to play with picks.

it all depends on the "genre" of the song your playing.

  • it has nothing to do with being lazy! it has to do with the sound. for some songs I like the sound a pick makes better than the sound plucking makes. for some songs I like slap better. it's not laziness it's a difference in oppinion/style.

don't be an ignorant little jerk-off

  • You must be kidding, that is such ignorance anyone who has the slightest bit of musicianship in them will realize that the way Justin C.(Tool's bassist) plays the song is a way the makes the song sound best. And that's the whole point in music contributing to make the song sound as best as you can get it. People play with a pick because it has benefits that your fingers do not and vice-versa, how about expanding your views?

  • sounds better with a pick in this song, but its eassier to play with your fingers to me..

  • nice cover :)

  • ur the shit man

  • most of their stuff thats decently hard is in drop d.

  • i just learned this song today on bass cause i heard it on the radio

  • Dude, if could play like you just this one song, I would be 11% happier... ^^

  • damn dude....you fuckin nailed it. really good job!

  • i meant pic

  • ha make me..he uses a plec irl

  • lol pick bass

  • 2:24 my fav part of the song

  • I've got that bass!

    Cool.

  • so are you doing open d then h10 h12?

im trying to leanr this song and people are playing it different

  • yeah man thats way im playing..its what jc plays

  • how else could it be played? just curious

it would be incredibly difficult to play open d and 5h7 on the g

  • You could play Drop D. I have the tabs from guitar world magzine and it say Drop D.

  • forthe whammy bit i think u nuued to tab and turn the volume up wile you whammy

  • yeah thats the proper way you should do it.

  • srry bout bad spelling

    i suk a typing

  • awesome job dood ^^

  • You did the beggining wrong. It's and open D. It looks like you have it on the second fret on the D. It's third fret on G and an open D. That's just what it looks like though. I'm probably wrong. Don't get mad because that's just what I saw.

  • u have tu practise ur tecniqe

  • His technique was just fine, he did a fine job.

  • bro you need to add a short delay to the whammy pedal bit

  • i know yeah..i dont own a deley pedal tho=P

  • you're playing the main riff wrong. you're supposed to play an open D then hammer on to the 10th and 12th fret of the G string.

  • no..im playing the riff right..watch any live video..trust me

  • i actually meant to say play an open D then hammer on to the 10th and 12th fret of the D string. either way I don't think that's what you're doing. you're just hammering onto the 12th fret from the 10th without hitting the open D first. of course i could be wrong, but that's what it looks and sounds like to me. if you are in fact hitting the open D, then my apologies.

  • nice

  • lol im going to have to agree, thunderbirds are composed of fail. decent playing though

  • Until now, I just assumed the part at about 4:00 was just a synth. I had no idea it was justin on the bass.

  • Phenomenal!!!!

  • made of fail?

  • nice, which pedal and effects are u using for the middle part?

  • metalzone distortion and the digitech whammy pedal..jc uses a slight delay aswel

  • Nice playing. Little more tweaking and you got it; I picked up on a couple wrong notes but overall nice cover.

  • cheers man

  • Hey, when i play that song i just turn the tone all the way up and it kind of sounds like that, but is there a tool that makes that sound?

  • no not really a tool..he doesnt use any effects for the man riff part. it depends on the bass aswel. if you want the exact tone you could try mess around with ur amp..or buy a wal bass like jc's:P

  • alright, thanks

  • whats up? that was good can you tell me your tuning please so i can learn this

  • i think its DADG

  • yup DADG it is

  • I play bass and i'm trying to get this song worked out but i cant get the part where it hammers on twice from 0 to 10 then 12 like 0h10h12 10 9 0h10h12 10 9 12 0 0 0 0 0

it sounds like crap wen i play it hav u got any tips?

  • just practice my friend..that vid up there aint the best example coz i was only starting out so the triplets aint as clear but i have it clean now. just practice the hammerons slowly, then keep trying it faster until ya have a nice sound

  • ok will do just when i do it i get a sort of ringing noise along with it and when i hammer on off 0 (as in no fret) it is extremely quiet and it gets a bad ringing noise so i cant really hammer off 0... yet that is i will just hav to practice it a lot

  • you probably aren't hitting the frets hard enough. just keep doing it, find your technique and build strength

  • did u use a whammy pedal?

  • yup!

  • play with fingerS !!!

  • JC doesnt use his fingers..he gets a finer tone with the pic and im trying to replicate his sound as much as possible. playing with fingers doesnt do schism justice at all, but sure if people feel more comfortable using fingers then by all means go ahead:D

  • On my bass i can get the almost the same tone with my fingers. If you DO try to do it with your fingers, start out close to the bridge and work your way closer to the pickups. you'll notice a difference in tone when you move from the bridge to the pickups, but you should still be able to almost replicate the sound with practice. :>

  • lol, we both play schism and we both have thunderbird!

  • thunderbirds kick ass man:D

  • I don't know, man. I mean it's good but, you're missing the soul in the notes by playing with a pick. No offense, good shit, just drop the pick and use all of your soul power.

  • jc uses a pick...

  • My old band covered this, and I used the pop-and-thump method because I absolutely hate using a pick (I feel so restricted with picks). You actually get more volume with this method, not to mention it's a more respected technique. However, to cover most Tool songs to a "T", a pick is absolutely necessary; if you want to play the song verbatim, but that's just boring. Just an opinion.

  • yes, I know justin uses a pick. I don't like them, not saying you suck or anything. I'd say this to justin, fingers are more free feeling and everything to me and makes it sound pretty good. I guess he uses it for his like punchy sound that he gets but w/e.

  • i know yeah..i know myself its not a great video. the triplets are few and far between, its an old video as i stated earlier. practice makes perfect;)

  • That was great man,and I love your band too. I would love to see more. Maybe Part of me?

  • p.s. What pedals do you use?

  • for schism i use the digitech whammy pedal and metal zone distortion. part of me is a great song but we havent yet covered it but its on the cards:D thansk for the comment:D

  • Ok, cool. Is it a whammy IV?

  • yeah man thats the one

  • Nice =]

  • hey from 4:06 to 4:36 it sounds good but you need too let the notes ring a bit more

  • wat effect are u using for 4:10 into teh video?

  • its a whammy pedal and distortion

  • Yeah dude imma have to agree with "StevenBoBeevin"...you need to hammer on harder with preciseness...other than that good job...later dude...

  • yeah tis an old enough vid. gotten the hang of it now. thanks for the comments:D

  • You need to hammer-on harder and more accurate. Unless the quality of the video is the reason i cant hear them.

  • Nice

what kind of bass is that? I'm jealous

  • its an epiphone thunderbird..the 'gothic' version. the name aint brilliant i know..hah

  • nice man

  • yeahhh the bridge isnt done right at all...im srry....just no more plZ

  • ive done the bridge my own way, i know few others play it that way. its called being original but watever

  • Niiccee thats was great dude...i feel inspired now

  • see my comment on your other video.

  • yeah im thinking of removing this vid and redoing it..dont like it at all.hmmmmm..

  • tooltabs(dot)net for the tabs my friend

  • Get off the stage yer shite! Love...your beloved band members! :P:P:P

  • where did u get tabs?

  • thanks :) i have those few errors cleared up..ill repost when i can be arsed =P

  • Nice tone, even if there are a few mistakes, you're doing well, keep it up! :)
