Jusy look at Iraq now: 3 democratic elections, Al-Quieda decimated & fleeing to Pakistan, 80-90% reduction in violence, The democraticly elected government negotiating with the US about an eventual troop withdrawl by 2011. The war was not a mistake. It was needed to clean up the middle east from terrorism, if possible. Even Bill Clinton realized this. Bush is simply carrying on Clinton's ideas to create a new middle east, which he started in '98 when he bombed Iraq. Dems were all in agreement then that Iraq had WMD's. The nightly news was filled with senators defending Clinton and his administration.
Victory will come only if the Iraqi people will defend themselves against the jihadist terrorists, and we can leave a remnant of our forces there to maintain stability.

Victory as defined at the start of the war was the removal of Saddam, Iraq becoming democratic, destruction of WMDs, and the return of US troops.
Now lets look at what's happened. Saddam is dead. Iraq has a new government. WMDs never existed. So all that's left for our victory is to come home. So why the hell are we still in this mistake for a war?
The goal of creating a stable and peaceful government in a region of religious fanaticism is not possible militarily. Iraq was invaded illegally and without a sober, competent strategy. It can only be considered a success if you apply a standard after the fact. Removal of Saddam? Victory- get out. Winning hearts and minds and building a thriving democracy? FAILURE - get out! Afghanistan and Osama Bin Ladden should have been our military focus PERIOD. KBR, Halliburton et al are the real winners.

The war was not a mistake. It was needed to clean up the middle east from terrorism, if possible. Even Bill Clinton realized this. Bush is simply carrying on Clinton's ideas to create a new middle east, which he started in '98 when he bombed Iraq. Dems were all in agreement then that Iraq had WMD's. The nightly news was filled with senators defending Clinton and his administration.
Now their hypocrisy has come home to roost!

Victory will come only if the Iraqi people will defend themselves against the jihadist terrorists, and we can leave a remnant of our forces there to maintain stability.
However, Iran is the next problem to deal with, and unless they stop their nuke program, the war will likely extend over. What other choice is there to stopping Iran from nuking Israel or the EU? The goal is radical Islamists is to rule the world and force their evil ways onto the everyone, or kill them for non-compliance.

Victory as defined at the start of the war was the removal of Saddam, Iraq becoming democratic, destruction of WMDs, and the return of US troops.
Now lets look at what's happened. Saddam is dead. Iraq has a new government. WMDs never existed. So all that's left for our victory is to come home. So why the hell are we still in this mistake for a war?

The goal of creating a stable and peaceful government in a region of religious fanaticism is not possible militarily. Iraq was invaded illegally and without a sober, competent strategy. It can only be considered a success if you apply a standard after the fact. Removal of Saddam? Victory- get out. Winning hearts and minds and building a thriving democracy? FAILURE - get out! Afghanistan and Osama Bin Ladden should have been our military focus PERIOD. KBR, Halliburton et al are the real winners.

There is no romantic "Nazis Surrender" or "Japs Quit" WWII type ending that the neocons dream about. There is only a realistic, calculated redeployment/withdraw. It's not surrender or retreat. It's cold hard reality that we need to leave. Yes we kick anyone's ass when we're there but we can't always be everywhere forever. It won't be defeat it will be a calculated disengagement. The neocons will have no doable solution.
