could have got a flopod steadicam for around $300 which works great for dslr's. Would have added a lot to the otherwise mundane and shoddy camera work in this teaser.
@TRE1275 i actually stylistically prefer the wide angle hand-held look to a steadicam's flow. also, there was no way we could run as fast as we did with any type of mount. that sequence was not sped up.
I heard about this trailer on "What's on Joe Mind"~ So this was shot on the EOS 7D? Nice. What lenses where use? I'm very curious to know. Good job btw!
@aliasangelalias hey cool that you listened to that podcast!! i filmed this with 2 lenses- the canon 50mm 1.4 and a Sigma 10-20mm. those are the only two lenses i own. most of the action was filmed with the Sigma because i needed as much depth of field as possible; the wide angle also has the benefit of distorting perspective which, for conveying speed, helped immensely like in the scene where i chased the Snake Eyes actor through smoke!! Hope this helps!!
@markcheng Nice Mark, I'm a pro photographer and I only done one video project with my 7D. All of my gears are for photography unfortunately. I am not able to do some fantastic video like you're doing. What steady cam do you recommend by the way and how much does it cost you? Hey, come by and check out my work at Manstudiophotography . com. :) Cheers!
By the way, I'm not nitpicking because I know it's Snake Eyes' signature weapon, but does anyone really use 9mm UZI's anymore? I kinda thougth he would've upgraded to an HK or SIG SAUER by now.
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen on YouTube! 'Operation Red Retrieval'? A rescue mission to save Scarlett? Snake Eyes and Zartan faithfully rendered? Awesome! 4 stars! Two thumbs up! Favorited! You have shamed Hollywood, Hasbro, and that overrated Resolute miniseres! I can't wait to see the movie in October!
Please tell me that Scarlett's legs will be tightly wrapped around Snake Eyes' hips in gratitude when she is rescued! :)
@44excalibur LOL, at that last part. I sure Scarlett will give Snake-Eyes something in gratitude when she's rescued in this movie. Gotta dig the uniforms and costumes. :)
@badlydubbedkungfu Glad you liked it! iThe running sequence is a personal favorite as well. No steadicam, not on our budget :) That was me chasing the stunt guy and we were running as fast as we could! the wide-angle lens (10mm) minimizes the shake immensel. Additionally the wide angle distorts and exaggerates the physical distance that the smoke travels as we run through it. we filmed it about a half dozen times and fell during 2 takes.
@markcheng No steadicam? That's a shame, John Carpenter had a steadicam when he made Halloween in 1979, and his budget could barely cover catering costs today.
@44excalibur Yes, well steadicam rentals and/or hiring an operator for them is expensive and there is no way we would match that same speed!! i considered biking behind the actor with a mountain bike, but that's extrememly risky with a $1600 SLR camera! plus i really like how it turned out with me just running! i think it adds to the intensity!!
OK, looks a little low budget but I'd run out of fingers and toes counting the low budget movies I've grown to love over the years. And some make scads of money too. LOL Break a leg man.
@markcheng I'll take your word for it. I hope you can pull off for the franchise what Resolute did for it, or what Legacy did for Motral Kombat recently, but nothing personal, I want to make the first great live action G.I. Joe film.
I was actually a part of this film and all I can say is, "Wow!" So far, it looks like Mark has created an amazing piece of work. I can't wait to see it in it's entirety.

@44excalibur he did consider upgrading but realized that his years in the field with the uzi has made him really comfortable with it!
