Pt. Nityanand Haldipur is a gem of a person. Every friend of mine who knows him says the same. In fact he is so down to earth that it is difficult to believe that you are in the presence of a maestro. Probably his frank and friendly nature is misunderstood by kmchatterji.- Gopal
I'm surprised to note this comment. I've known Nityanand for over 25 years now and have never seen any such behaviour. In fact he has helped more people than he cares to remember. I think you need to revamp your evaluation criteria.
yes you are right. He is the disciple of Late Pt Devendra Murdeshwar, who was one of main disciples and i must add, son in law of Shri pannalal Ghosh too.
I believe he is playing raga marwa. The scale consists of (in scale degrees) 1, b2, Maj3, #4, Maj6, Maj7. You can find the particular melodic phrases on other websites.

Just let's listen to the divine music folks. Let's forget all else...

He is of course well trained but he has a history of being mean-spirited as a person and these things can be felt in a performer's music.

i met him personally and he came across as an absolute gentleman. His music is divine an dthere is nothing mean spirited in it.

Satyam brooyaat, Priyam brooyaat
Na brooyaat Satyam apriyam
(Tell the Truth. Say positive things. Do not say negative things even if they are true.)
This wisdom saying suggests that we should not say negative things whether or not they are correct especially in an auspicious setting like this.
This is a very meditative presentation of a most sacred Raaga in India's tradition. This is not a place for negative utterances, I think.

This is a wonderful piece in Marwa...when played on the flute by Pt.Nityanand Haldipur ,I think,it enhances the subtle effect of the Raga .

i dont get how can he play it so well, it's a really strange way to hold the bansuri...
beautiful raga
othannen 4 years ago
he plays it right handed and plays with the finger tips. this has an added advantage of using the seventh hole as the hand can stretch to reach it.
njangandharvan 4 years ago
something like pannalal ghosh i guest,cool... i just cant do it on my bansuri, but maybe the holes location is different
othannen 4 years ago
