It's all about 1967 Spiderman and this is a great episode w/ lots of great New York one-liners from Spidey! All the voice talent acting their asses off too.
@mrtheoriginalschool MYSTERIO: I'm not the greatest stunt man in the world for nothing.
SPIDERMAN: Thanks for telling me who you are and in front of witnesses.
MYSTERIO: Why you?
SPIDERMAN: Now that's what I call using the old head? When the Police arrive tell them that this little package is from their Friendly Neighbourhood Spiderman?
THIS is when Cartoons were great! Spider-man had the most Drama and the best Music of them All. Steve Ditko's Art work style was mimicked very closely. Thanks.
When Gantry studios made these, they were at the top of their game. They started out with the Marvel Super Heroes, basically they just used the pages from the comic books and some minor animation. With Spiderman, they did more, from music to the dialog and most of the stories were close to the spidey issues during the time.
Mysterio just loses! He just gives up! He's clearly more powerful than Spiderman, but the writers were like "DERP SPIDERMAN'S GOTTA WIN SOMEHOW. LETS PUNCH MYSTERIO TO DEATH"
Yeah, agreed. The first season was great. The seasons where Ralph Bakshi screwed things up arent so hot. I know they had money problems but the storylines were just dumb!!! I did like some of the music though. Too bad the original first season's music went missing (or stolen). Oh well, I'll just have to re create it or some of it anyway, on my guitar...
@whoopadoopa So,that explains those weird druged out looking backrounds from the later seasons of Spiderman. Bakshi, had some off the wall ideas,he also came back years later and did Mighty Mouse, with some push to the edge scenes with his inside jokes, that, got MM canceled,ha ha ha. Besides, those later season Spiderman episodes were basically just mashups, with not much new animation work involved.
2:23 Mysterio sure goes to a whole lotta trouble plotting against and fighting SpiderMan, all so he can collect 1 Dollar from J.J. (and then he only get's a ripped-up half-a-dollar) I guess being the "World's Greatest Stuntman", 7:50 , doesn't pay well. ;) But yes, thanks for posting the vid. It's a classic.
One thing that irritates me about this series is how they sometimes, but not always, substituted bad guys for extremely similar lookalikes for no obvious reason. Charles Cameo was just a haughtier Chameleon, and Cliventon was like Kraven and Boomerang combined.
@Kennystarfighter59 --Yes, it seems every other poster notes that. Look for a goof later on when Beck is unmasked; his hair is grey in the second half when it was dark early on. Also, why did the animators draw a vertical line down his head? It looks like a talking butt. Look also for a Green Goblin mask in the clutter backstage.
Great episode!!! I especially love the music during the battle scene on the bridge. In fact, Im currently learning it on my guitar right now woo hoo!!!!!
..the latest versions. All it needs is a few changes, like a swirling cloud inside the head and not a voice oscillation wave.
Lots of action, Bridge, water, Jameson confronting his fears in the rubber room and kidnapped by Mysterio, saved by Spider man etc..
Mysterio, like the Boba Fett character, will never reveal his true identity, is from another realm (time fold) and for a short while intrudes on a very young (kid) Peter's life (flashback) via a vortex that was made by Doc Octopus.
Donot include the Mary Jane or May parker characters.
Its probably too late, but you should've introduced Mysterio in the next film. With the last movie's attempt at clearing Peter of his Uncle's death, I was waiting for Darth Vadar to appear to tell him he was Pete's Uncle, you might as well go with Mysterio. Seriously though, Boba Fett has a large fan base, and this Mysterio could pick up on that. This type of Mysterio as seen in the "Menace" and not..
did mysterio agree to fight spiderman for a dollar O_O just wondering wouldnt the deal be off since jonas ripe the other half lol well unless he tapes it back i guess
I totally agree!!!! Gantry and Lawerence did the first season, and they had a great story line, fast paced action, classic villians, and cool background music. When they went bankrupt, Baski did the second and third season, and, like you said, outside of a handful of episodes, his series was TOTALLY CRAP!!!! I hated how he always had the swoosh sound every time Spidey was swinging, and his animation, along with the storyline, was a piece of shit!!
The animation is what it is, and I know they had very little money - but man, the music in this cartoon is great. Always loved the tune that starts at 1:12.
