The Athens relied heavly on Slaves to do their work. The Spartans did most of their own work using slaves less often, so without slaves the Athens would have perished for a time while the Spartans grew to an even bigger nation, and 300 Spartans held of that huge army while the Athens of a huge scale ran away.
