this brings back so many memories....... i use ti listen to this when i was 3..... i stiil apretiate this type of music even though not many 11 year old people do.....
What a trip down memory lane! This song came out when I was just beginning to get over thinking that all boys had cooties and actually were kind of -- well -- NICE!
It's a tender, loving song of young love -- and of its pain as well.
Hey,janschro, who are you, and where did you unearth this great old classic? And also the Playmates song "Let's Be Lovers?" This is wonderful -- haven't thought about it in years. This goes back to JHS days in Lancaster PA. Keep up the good work.
The best production values of any record in the early sixties. They were a great group, with a very unique sound with their harmonies. And their resume today would include more "songs that made the charts" than many of the "off the wall" selections that have been made to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Don, Morey, and Chic should be there too. Thanks for posting and for the forum.
Gee, I miss the music of the 50's and 60's, the tunes were catchy and most had a story to tell, and there was a wide variety of music in the charts then, from Rock'n'Roll to Crooners to Orchestral etc. all sharing one thing in common....great music.
I love The Playmates (Donny, Morey and Chic), they had so many great hits, they got a lot of airplay on Stan Rofe's 'Platter Parade' here in Melbourne.
Somewhere out there must be video clips of the Playmates live. They were on television fairly regularly when those records were first release. And they were GREAT! Donny, Morey and Chic. Their first album, "At Play" is an absolute masterpiece.
My Dad has been searching for this song for ever 25 years, and I found it here for him -- he wanted me to say thank you, for bringing him back to his teens. <3
I keep hearing songs on YouTube that I haven't heard since my childhood and this is yet another one. I forgot how beautifully these guys sang. The haunting female vocals are incredibly beautiful as is the production and arrangement of the recording. This brings back the whole feeling of 1960 as I was 10 at the time. WOW! The story in the song has such a sad irony that I didn't quite catch at that time. Can't thank you enough for uploading this.
I didn't know the title, but I remember the song. I was just a kid. I'd wait for the refrain to come around because It was the only part I knew I could remember the words to. So, boy! Did I ever belt it out when whenever it did come around!
"Wait for me
wait for me
Johny please wait for me..."
I think the Playmates deserve more mention than they get today. They were good!
But do as many nice, catchy tunes as you want. One novelty record and whadda they remember ya for?
I had a beautiful, blue eyed blonde..named JUDY..back in 1968 who would follow me like a litle puppy dog!! She worked with me as a cashier in the old A&P foodstore. But, I was too cool to acknowledge her..One, day, before getting drafted into the ARMY,,during Vietnam..I finally realized ..I did really love her..But it was too late! Ironically,.Judy married my Recruiter!! Tried to track her down..but to no avail.. Judy if you read this.I miss and still LOVE you very much..being too alone in PENN
WOW! NICE! I haven't heard this song since WLS out of Chicago used to play this on their oldies show on Sunday morning!. Thank you very much for posting this great song.
jt has a great group of songs from 1960 to 62 on cadence records and you can get it on cd try amazon.meantime thans for this great post--this song speakes to me!
Me too and have been searching youtube for it. Today, I fell upon it and I can't believe my luck!! It's even greater than I remember it. I also thank you for posting it!
If Youtube paid people, you should be paid a million!!! You did a GREAT,FANTASTIC,EXCELLENT job with one of my favorite "TEENAGE ANGST" songs.....THANKS SO MUCH.........Tears In TEXAS!!!
I always loved this song with the harmonies and the female background singing. The lyrics are so deceptively sad, along the lines of "Once Upon a Time". Unrequited love and those moments when we let good things slip through our fingers forever.
Thanks for the reference to "Don't Cry Joni". I'd never heard that Conway Twitty song before, but it does have the same theme as "Wait for Me". Realizing years later that you let a true love slip away from your life must haunt far too many men and women.
Only fourteen and I love this song. The oldies were the best! I wish I was born when this kinda music was out. ._.
