ninjutsu or using ninja tactics in a head to head fight against most other martial arts isn't as effective as you might think. it's been glorified as being almighty and unstoppable. it's not, it's about stealth and guerrilla style fighting, as in beating someone's skull with a stone when they're not looking. most ninja were simply farmers, and they relied on knowledge of the terrain and intuition in order to kill. however, it a one-on-one match, using ninjutsu is ill advised.
Those guys are top leveled fencers, samurai, and knights aren't they. I mean really, you get the worst possible people in an art to make your own art look good when in reality if you put your best against their bests in a serious fight, your mma fighters might have their neck ripped out.
John Lindsey in an interview with Tanemura S asks: "Did Takamatsu S always call it Togakure ryu?":

@taud I think Hatsumi sensei does, but the majority of what he teaches is from the samurai lineage. During the ninja boom he emphasized how different the ninja techniques are from the samurai while moving like the samurai. Notice that now he rarely wears the black dogi with the "nin" symbol? All my certificates say "Budo Taijutsu" not ninjutsu. Now, after having said this, I still think Hatsumi, along with Tanemura(Genbukan) and Manaka(Jinenkan) or any of their instructors teach "real ninjutsu".

For those detractors, there is wrong with MMA, but it is striclty sport. If the people engaged in it, were allowed to explore and utlize techniques, beyong those governed in the ring, then they would indeed be formidable fighters in reality situations, but it is just sport. MMA has never been known as an art or war, designed to kill with frightening skill and stealth, nor does it carry a reputation for keeping an entire country in supersitious fear.

okay let me school you on something. Ninjas were technically bandits, thieves, or crooks, and were the second lowest beings in japan (only thing lower were non-japanese or half breed japanese). These bandits were given the title of Ninja or Shinobi. Later, these thieves had been put into better use as they were hired by the Japanese Military or someone other who could actually pay them. Their methods involved were spying, espionage and assassination.
After a long conflict of goverment guns vs swords and horses. The Japanese samurai died in 1876 the ninja was still around untill Japan had no more need for them due to rising technolguy advance, the Ninjas started to slowly move from assasins to a normal life. And in time both Samurai and Ninja were forgotten in time, today people give tours in Japan over Ninja villages, full of traps and great buildings, some want to bring back the name of Ninja and Samurai but is not immposible...
Samurai and Ninja are gone. Their is no way you could bring them back with this modern society. And they will never come back.

Some Farmers might have been ninja, but not ALL of them. Definitely not all of them. Did you know how Karate was started? It was taught by Chinese (or at least through the trade China and Japan, and Chinese sailors taught them a style of Kung Fu). When these farmers were harassed by Samurai or soldiers, they defended themselves, using what we know as "Karate." And many of the weapons that Karate artists use are based or are indeed farming tools.

A typo. But here's the problem with your arguement. MMA is as real as it gets. If ninja imply all these fighting and killing techniques, why aren't they used? Yes I have indeed faced three ninjutsu practitioners, one of them being some sort of "Master". All three, I was able to manipulate into a submission or a state where they couldn't continue fighting (no, I didn't beat them to hell, I either got mount and they couldn't do anything). Bad footwork, and moves that were sloppy and rather slow. No, I haven't tested them with their weapons, because as I said, the laws would be on my side. In terms of them somehow killing me. lol
To be clear, all martail arts are the same, at least in my mind. MMA, is limited to the restrictions of sport rules and therefore limited in reality. Ninja does not imply killing with every technique, nor in fact does it even advocated killing or fighting, if one escape. Ninja prefer not to be there and so I teach my students to run first, talk second and fight as a last resort. I speak from experience, when I say, that ninjutsu works and I am still alive
well if you're a ninjutsu instructor, then there are questions I should ask you. Why is it that ninjutsu is being taught publicly when the whole idea of the ninjas and their art is to remain secret? How did it get outside of "ninja clans" to japan, let alone the world? My research has stated that there are fraudulent ninjutsu masters who use the title and history of it as a marketing tool to earn students. Which could lead to false teachings.
The art does not serve the same purpose as it once did and Hatsumi felt it was time to reveal the art to the world, to show them its true intention. Yes, there are fraudulent teachers but I have done fifteen years or research and I have filtered out the facts
Alright, so if it was time to show the world ninjutsu, why is it, that the art is never effectively used in a combat situation? Such as the many tapes/videos of brazillian jiu jitsu being utilized to its effectiveness. I don't count ashida kim's crap, since he's apparently fraudulent. However, if you are actually teaching your students to run from fights, I'm all for that. I would agree to run too, but if they do get cornered, will the art work to defend? From what I've seen, it wouldn't.

And let someone who's can be a successor to go through generations. But in the training sessions they has been really really strict to outside person so if you're not here for training you can't get in there let alone watching them trains that's what the real class does!

@cheeos It's part of the rules. If they get a groin kick or eye gouge, they'll try to alert the ref so they can get a small break of breathing time. Fighting is very exhausting and if they can pretend to have an eye injury to get poionts or rest up, they'll do it.
@Dmasterman MMA isn't nearly as effective in real life situations as muay boran, ninjutsu, and other martial arts. MMA is to much evolved into a ring fight. Those fighters aren't nearly as strong when they get to the street, ring fighting is a sport/game. Real fighting is done on the streets, in buildings, and on battlefields where your life is on the line and the first one to kill the other is the one who survives. ninjutsu or using ninja tactics in a head to head fight against most other martial arts isn't as effective as you might think. it's been glorified as being almighty and unstoppable. it's not, it's about stealth and guerrilla style fighting, as in beating someone's skull with a stone when they're not looking. most ninja were simply farmers, and they relied on knowledge of the terrain and intuition in order to kill. however, it a one-on-one match, using ninjutsu is ill advised.

@taud I think Hatsumi sensei does, but the majority of what he teaches is from the samurai lineage. During the ninja boom he emphasized how different the ninja techniques are from the samurai while moving like the samurai. Notice that now he rarely wears the black dogi with the "nin" symbol? All my certificates say "Budo Taijutsu" not ninjutsu. Now, after having said this, I still think Hatsumi, along with Tanemura(Genbukan) and Manaka(Jinenkan) or any of their instructors teach "real ninjutsu".

he ONLY came up with togakure and toda AFTER he was denied the chance to open a kukishin branch dojo.

Ok, several ninjas were on a mission of assassination but on the way they got lost (in China. thats where they originally lived) so they decided to do what anyone would do "be fruitfull and multiply" and so they came from one generation to the other teaching there kids the ways of ninjutsu. i saw one of those ninjas and i know Hatsumi is not the only one

For those detractors, there is wrong with MMA, but it is striclty sport. If the people engaged in it, were allowed to explore and utlize techniques, beyong those governed in the ring, then they would indeed be formidable fighters in reality situations, but it is just sport. MMA has never been known as an art or war, designed to kill with frightening skill and stealth, nor does it carry a reputation for keeping an entire country in supersitious fear.

Karate DO. Karte is not perfect, but it has many moves used by Samurai, our old book says that Ninjas were/are masters on the know martial arts like Judo, Karate, Jujitsu, Ninjitsu, and acrobatics.
Point, they must had been a nigthmare to figth, he migth be in frpnt of you but you wont see him untill he chops you off or breakes your neck.

lol yes anybody can be a ninja but it takes a long time to really be what the creator(s) intended the ninja to be. Clearly Hatsumi is quite traditional but also using firearms. With the art of stealth and deception, people may well think that ninjas dont exist anymore but maybe that's because they're so skilled you don't know they're there..

Samurai COULD NEVER COME BACK. There are no modern day Samurai. Sure there may be people who come from a Samurai Family but does not make them one. Samurai where a ruling warrior class in Japan. They where abolished during the Meji Restoration :) same with ninja but they where not a ruling class.

okay let me school you on something. Ninjas were technically bandits, thieves, or crooks, and were the second lowest beings in japan (only thing lower were non-japanese or half breed japanese). These bandits were given the title of Ninja or Shinobi. Later, these thieves had been put into better use as they were hired by the Japanese Military or someone other who could actually pay them. Their methods involved were spying, espionage and assassination.

After a long conflict of goverment guns vs swords and horses. The Japanese samurai died in 1876 the ninja was still around untill Japan had no more need for them due to rising technolguy advance, the Ninjas started to slowly move from assasins to a normal life. And in time both Samurai and Ninja were forgotten in time, today people give tours in Japan over Ninja villages, full of traps and great buildings, some want to bring back the name of Ninja and Samurai but is not immposible...

Listen budy, today there is no such thing as a Ninja nor Samurai. They have been gone for some time now, last samurais in WW2 last Ninjas in WW2 also.

Some Farmers might have been ninja, but not ALL of them. Definitely not all of them. Did you know how Karate was started? It was taught by Chinese (or at least through the trade China and Japan, and Chinese sailors taught them a style of Kung Fu). When these farmers were harassed by Samurai or soldiers, they defended themselves, using what we know as "Karate." And many of the weapons that Karate artists use are based or are indeed farming tools.

First, If ninja were real they do not exist now. Second, if you admit that they are a secret society, they would NOT HAVE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Such as the ones you claim to know, or the one in this video. They would not share their secrets to the public.
Second, Karate was learned from Chinese to defend themselves MOSTLY From the samurai. Possibly robbers as well. But mainly the Samurai. Karate was based off of Chinese Hung Gar and only slightly tweaked.

A typo. But here's the problem with your arguement. MMA is as real as it gets. If ninja imply all these fighting and killing techniques, why aren't they used? Either A. they don't work, or these "ninja" realize they'd kill their opponents, getting them in trouble with the law. There for, the law is actually their restriction and rules.

Yes I have indeed faced three ninjutsu practitioners, one of them being some sort of "Master". All three, I was able to manipulate into a submission or a state where they couldn't continue fighting (no, I didn't beat them to hell, I either got mount and they couldn't do anything). Bad footwork, and moves that were sloppy and rather slow. No, I haven't tested them with their weapons, because as I said, the laws would be on my side. In terms of them somehow killing me. lol

To be clear, all martail arts are the same, at least in my mind. MMA, is limited to the restrictions of sport rules and therefore limited in reality. Ninja does not imply killing with every technique, nor in fact does it even advocated killing or fighting, if one escape. Ninja prefer not to be there and so I teach my students to run first, talk second and fight as a last resort. I speak from experience, when I say, that ninjutsu works and I am still alive

well if you're a ninjutsu instructor, then there are questions I should ask you. Why is it that ninjutsu is being taught publicly when the whole idea of the ninjas and their art is to remain secret? How did it get outside of "ninja clans" to japan, let alone the world? My research has stated that there are fraudulent ninjutsu masters who use the title and history of it as a marketing tool to earn students. Which could lead to false teachings.

Alright, so if it was time to show the world ninjutsu, why is it, that the art is never effectively used in a combat situation? Such as the many tapes/videos of brazillian jiu jitsu being utilized to its effectiveness. I don't count ashida kim's crap, since he's apparently fraudulent. However, if you are actually teaching your students to run from fights, I'm all for that. I would agree to run too, but if they do get cornered, will the art work to defend? From what I've seen, it wouldn't.

problem, the episode has it's facts a little mussed.. see hatsumi has just been CLAIMING his martial art is ninjutsu for a looooong time...
takamatsu was never taught it... he only made up being taught it, AFTER kukishen ryu refused to let him create his own ryuha, mixed with karate for marketability.
these are based on the letters, as recorded in the kukishinden zensho, a compilation of the kuki families scrolls/densho.

@Dmasterman I dont know if sport fighters train to fight blinded... they may get poked in the eye once in awhile but yah I dont know MMA fighters are tough but techniques that are 800 years old may beat a brown belt in a sport fighting technique or may not.

@cheeos It's part of the rules. If they get a groin kick or eye gouge, they'll try to alert the ref so they can get a small break of breathing time. Fighting is very exhausting and if they can pretend to have an eye injury to get poionts or rest up, they'll do it.

@Dmasterman MMA isn't nearly as effective in real life situations as muay boran, ninjutsu, and other martial arts. MMA is to much evolved into a ring fight. Those fighters aren't nearly as strong when they get to the street, ring fighting is a sport/game. Real fighting is done on the streets, in buildings, and on battlefields where your life is on the line and the first one to kill the other is the one who survives. Essentially what this guy does for the government.
