John Bubbles appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I thought something had gone wrong with network policy, bring something completely entertaining back from the old days. They had, and Bubbles was such a hit he came back again and again. I feel privileged top have been there to see him.
Why can't tap be as famous as it was back then? I would do anything to watch people tap like this again! This dude, AMAZING! I mean, look how much fun he's having! People don't care about this stuff anymore. It's a shame... I wish that tap dancing like this was popular again.
Wow, what dancing... and I love Bubbles' singing. Have you heard the LP of Porgy and Bess excerpts which Skitch Henderson conducts with Leontyne Price, William Warfield and John W Bubbles? The original and one of the 2 greatest Sportin' Lifes (can't forget Cab)!
@rankingtrevor what the hell are you talking about numskull? what on earth does "affirmative action" have to do with this clip?? Although it would do wonders at eliminating incompetent idiots like you.
You might have named the very best tappers of all time! The contest at the Cactus Club between the Brothers is still legendary. Wish there were a video of it. It is talked about even75 years after they perfomed at Cab Calloway's Club. The Berry Brothers jumped 1 1/2 stories and did a perfect split to beat the Nicholas Brothers who had just performed a flawless performance! There. is a variation of that routine on You Tube. One of the Berry Brothers was an Our Gang member. They were amazing.
@Blackjesus3 John Bubbles is considered the father of rhythm tap. He did indeed ; teach Fred how to rhythm tap. Fred was a ballroom tapper before. They were almost the same age. Bubbles and Eleanor Powell often tapped together outside the movies. She thought Bubbles was the greatest rhythm tapper EVER and showed her appreciation toward him when he taught her many of his steps.Wish they could have danced in movies. It would have been awesome. They broke attendance records though at the reviews.
Too bad the tap dancers of today don't know how to entertain an audience like this...maybe it's time to look to the past for rhythms that appeal to the audiences ear....too much speed today - no real rhythm all 16th & 32nd notes - no holes, no rhythm - no audience...
