  • It's hard to have opinions and make critiques without "grading on a curve," so to speak.

This video just doesn't stack up next to all of the excellent tutorials by, for example, boyinaband, recordingrevolution or garagebandandbeyond.

  • yeah we get it, make it all balanced...it would have been nice for him to show us how to balance it...instead of talking a load of old shiiiite

  • scscrsrcscscsscscsc....(pause) crisp

  • I don't think windows has this strange alien slider technology on their keyboard. :'(

  • IS THAT A SONIC MAXIMIZER?!?!

  • Next episode.... How to play a guitar.

  • hungry monkeys> expert village

  • He has a microphone on his belly at 3:15 ????

  • Good stuff, leaned some great tips!

  • So until 3:32 I was amazed how so much time can be spent without actually saying anything useful at all. If the rest suddenly turned informative I'll never know

  • @Warsel Dude at 3:33 starts the good part :D

  • sorry what's laziness???

  • I've got a question. So, you record flat, with the inputs in. Once you've recorded, what does a mixer control in the audio, because it's not got any inputs plugged in?

  • @lliwehtedud it controls laziness

  • @lliwehtedud Volume and gain

  • @Tombking2 cool thanks a lot, sorry i'm just starting out with my home studio, so still learning!

  • It also helps to run it through Neve's components.. That man is a genius. I spoke with him about 2 years ago and in about 10 minutes he changed my view or at least made me see the light so to speak on just about everything.

  • is there anyway one of u guys could send me a track so i could mix it? i wont charge a dime i just want to see if im any good i feel confident i am but i would appreciate the help thanks

  • @ismellpedo i got a beat im working on...

  • Ok, back to super basics for me :P

  • What kind of mic is he using attached to his shirt in the video??

  • 3:00 - 3:20 very important to anyone thats new to recording. take his advice, and take the time out during production to get the sounds you want. Do not rely post to fix a bad drum mix.

  • good advices. Will bring them home:)

  • hey man.. can you check out a mix i made and tell me how is it???

    thanks in advance

  • fire video nice job

  • LOL! We are sitting in front of a nice Little console.. lol Funny:P

  • cozy studio

  • you taught me well old man ;)

  • Good point about not over doing the mix so that it doesn't hinder the mastering process :)

  • @ThatKiddKL dude calm down, you sound like a very angry guy.

  • I THINK HE NEEDS TO WORK ON HIS MID RANGE MORE. ITS A LITTLE TO MUCH. MORE COMPRESSION WOULD BE IN ORDER HERE. I REALLY THINK HIS WIFE WOULD LIKE THAT. DON'T YOU?

  • good stuff thx

  • Hi, Im writting from Ecuador, i have a mac book pro i7 4 processors, 500 gb, and pro tools 9 whit a project mix but i cant run it good, it always gives me problems whit cpu overload, remove some plug ins, I have done everything online people say but not working, it gets slow and i cant put a guitar amp plug in because goes slow and sometimes stops.

Please give some help my friend.

    thank you.

    Roberto.

  • @ROBERTOSIERVODEDIOS can you lock the tracks so that the tracks use less resources on playback? I have a macbook with 2.4 core 2, 4 gigs ram and I can playback several tracks with multiple effects no problem so you shouldn't have such a problem.

  • One of the few people on youtube, who actualy know what they are talking, doing etc.

  • What's sad is that there are people watching you so they can spend a few hundred bucks and think they don't need your studio anymore. Too many musicians out there not realizing how far off their mixes are from professional. To those watching: Put the guitar/mic down and devote your life to engineering or hand your music to someone who was willing to.

  • can someone please tel me is it legal or illegal to remix a song! or can I use the beat/melody of a specic song I like but sing in my own lyrics and languge by cuting the vocals of the original singer. , is that too difficult/ and even possible.

  • @Theshofumiah1 It is illegal because to do that you need to have the author rights that means that you need an authorization by the singer or the composer!I wouldn't recommend you to do that if you want to make public your work but if your doing it just to have fun with your self go ahead.

  • @lindi771900 This depends on whether or not the artist's work is filed with a publishing company. If the artist you're looking to "use their beat/tracks" didn't copyright the material... It's sad to say... Free world use. Be prepared to get a S&%T storm of fists and bullets flying at you... (if you get "heard" by the track or make a living off of it....) LoL

  • Now THERES a place you wouldn't sit your coffee.

  • what an excellent way to explain such a very subjective topic

  • Hello!

For vocal (pop, pop rock) - stereo or mono reverb ?!

  • I nice little neve consol would be an understatement

  • Neve FTW \m/ (Y)

  • you are a lovely guy!

  • what a nice guy. wish he was my dad.

  • thx mister green...very good advice on the basics...

  • Overall a very good bit of advice. The EQing is a great place to start and a good reason to have your tracks seperated out. Of course everyone is going to have their own opinions. At the end of the day, Its all bout what you like. And luckily you can get great results with a much smaller rig. Check out our StudioBLADE for example. We've got some great videos on our channel. Check em out!

  • then the sound is great, dynamic and so on. and then later comes the cd mastering and the dynamic maximiser steamroller, that kills the living sound again. :o( on cd player it sounds then like flat trash. ... I keep on asking why why why

  • id love if u went threw sum of the buttons on the desy i.e the phase reverse the solo button etc...

  • eHow > 'Expert' village

  • Damn, that snare DOES sound cris.. cris.. crisp.

  • Ha,the drums are already engineered that way...The rims of the drums provides "top end,and others parts provide the boom....

  • bull ish

  • Google for :

    AAMS Auto Audio Mastering System

  • I really have to tone my midrange!

  • I particularly liked the "this nice little Neve console... " bit.

  • yeah I have to agree with what your sayin I wish my mix was more balanced I feel like its difficult like you say you can always add stuff later.

  • Hello..= )

How are you?..thanks for all the tips I have learn a lot about it..Im a drummer and musican from Switzerland..i have start to play drums wen I was 4 years old and I have here a little homestudio at home...I have study in NY and I play in bands too..thanks again and have a nice weekend..= )

    Harald(^_^)

  • @FunnyRapperGuy.......Cheah cheah LMAO!!!

  • there´s nothing better than mixing on a real mixer....

  • Wow! Good Video! Thanks!

  • The only good ExpertVillage video. Oh wait, it isn't! Go eHow?

  • have u got some on how to mix vocalss with instrumentals

  • a very good tip for your snare... to avoid the spill coming through on the track put a gate on the track then turn all the values to their fastest setting to compress and put your thresh hold right the way up then start to bring it down slightly to get the snare sound then add reverb and you get a really nice snare drum sound :) hope this helps you guys .. i will be posting videos on techniques as soon as i can.

  • thanks Frank Green!

  • Basically the exact opposite of expert village. (thats a good thing)

  • Cheah Cheah Uuhhh!!! Fire! Early! EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR

  • Great video...BUT...you've gotta show me something here! YouTube, not YouTalk! I learn by you SHOWING me what you're talking about, then I know where to go to try it. Kinesthetics like myself would like to see more. But thanks for the theory lesson.

  • Its great how you had a very open approach to this tutorial.

  • 0:14 Nice LITTLE Neave console?!?!?! That's a very BIG little console don't you think?

  • @theironfreak for a Neve console, it is on the smaller side, let's be honest

  • eHow>>>>>>>Expert Village

  • Finally, a guy that actually knows what hes talking about! GREAT VIDEO!

  • ok, i have a mixer, audacity, and fl studio, have my drums miked, and they echo horribly, so the track sounds like a mess. any sugestions?

  • @7dcband95 lol... take a course. what you ask is not an easy question, and cant even be answered in a you tube post of 500 characters...

  • Yeah, balance is a very good aproch but it is hard if you talk about prog metal, tons of distortion tons of effects, piano, strings vocals, drums, 6 minutes of a very changing song its har to balance that all the time! is out there a tutorial like this for prog metal? thanks

  • @jjpl2001email automation ;)

  • Yeah I'm for sure we have a pro! bout time

  • Nice Marijuana plant you have there!

  • Frank, this is really great. You're imparting wisdom in a very patient and humble way...unlike a lot of audio engineers I've known. And you communicate well. I'd love to feature you and perhaps your studio in one of our videos...let me know if you're interested.

  • chris-cris-KRISPP!

  • I thnk the guy is on shrooms because his velakuka is showing

  • this is what i love old school recording

  • @meetmeetmeetmeet Old school? Making me feel old man.

  • Really great video ..thank u ....

  • can anyone else hear a subtle pitch shift in his voice just under the original track in certain points you can hear it kindve like the voice of the devil or something HAHA great vid too. about 3:43 for a good example of this.

  • nice 8108 your working on!! i have one too

  • finaly, e-how puts out some good stuff

  • thanks master nice video

  • Thank you. that was so well explained

  • You've essentially given us a lesson on basic human instinct. Well Done. Have a sandwich. How about you let us in on some of the techniques you actually use and how they would sound if effects were applied to them or if the "Mid Range" was cut or boosted.

  • Great advice, very helpful video. The "mid range" joke was pretty funny as well

  • Hi, I got a DBX 266XL Compressor/Gate that i use for recording the bass drum. what do you think would be the best setting for that King Diamond type music bass drum sound. THANKS!!

  • Great and valuable Tips, Thank you:)

  • you became my hero on minuete 3:06 when you said mid range and the same moment also tapping your belly - over there i understood that you really know the secret , rock on !! i wish i could work with someone like your self - you are a great gift to the world , and your energy is aiming for the heart !

  • Very helpful! Thanks!

  • Great value you give to us. Thanks!!!!!!

    Benson and Tonic
