Magazine have reformed and are touring in February 2009. Howard will be joined by Dave Formula, Barry Adamson and John Doyle. Taking John McGeoch's place is Noko, an old colleague of Devoto's from the Luxuria days. They play the London Forum on 12 and 13 Feb.
We met Dave Formula in France last summer....what a treat. He played the piano in the bar & invited other musicians to play with him. Thanks Dave. Hannah says HI (she drew you playing on the piano)
does anyone know where to find the real top of the pops clip? i´d love to see it.. i wonder if his white make up had anything to do with dylan´s white face during the first rolling thunder revue.. i know devoto is a big fan..
according to simon reynolds rip it up and start again this fucked up magazines career, cause he got stage fright and was pissed off about having to mime
I dunno. The Magazine site (shotbybothsides) lists TV apps and takes pains to point out the career 'suicide' posed by this clip. And the screen cap matches this clip. I'd dig some clarification, too. Great band. Secondhand Daylight is a stunning LP.
the keyboard player ruled and im currently being taught by him at college in scunthorpe. howard devoto is a complete dick. and he used to have hair transplants.
saw magazine on the second hand daylight tour at lancaster uni 1978, and at blackburn king georges hall on the 2nd album tour 1979. magazine fucking wow, blew me away when i was 14 and still does now at 43. wonder what howie is doing now
Bloody marvellous! Shame it gets cut short. I remember watching it at the time and thinking it was live but it looks like they were just miming to a different recording from the record.
Reminds me of Just by Radiohead.

And what is he doing in these days? One of the best keyboards in the 80's. Greetings.
jejesus 4 years ago
He told me he was making an album & that he would choose Hannah's portrait of him on the album cover....I don't know if he has done that or not.
chinagirl84 4 years ago
He's got a MySpace page with stuff from his new album on it
mindtpi 3 years ago
Oh, I will search for it. It`s good to know than Dave is on the scene. Thanks, chinagirl 84 and mindtpi.
p.s. I have a double album (vinyl) by Magazine. A bootleg recorded in Ballroom Paradise, Boston. I most transfer it to MP3 very soon.

Top of the pops always presented playbacks. But this version didn't seem a playback.

But that can't be this clip; he was supposed to be standing stock still, with clown white makeup like a harlequin.
