I actually watched some Sesame Street this morning for the first time in years. I remember watching it as a child in the mid/late 80's and the show has definitely changed.

Cookie Monster is still awesome..but making Elmo the main chaacter over Big Bird is a "suspect" decision IMO.

whoa! ive always been proud to say i grew up with sesame street and learned to speak english because of it. now it surprises me that im as old as my fave childhood program. more power sesame street! wish the book reaches the philippines. and i hope i could afford it.

Does it cover the pilot episodes from summer 1969 that aired in Philadelphia? Does it mention who played Gordon in the first pilot?

I think it does, but there is a little tidbit that mentions that THEY don't even know the portrayer of Gordon in the test pilot.

lol Carroll Spinney wearing the Big Bird legs and reading the NY Post at 00:17. I love the original Big Bird costume seen at 00:50. I really wish I could see more behind the scenes of Sesame Street. I wonder how long it takes to tape an episode since there's so much puppetry involved? And how kids get picked to appear on segments with Grover, Elmo, etc? Wow SS is 40! Who knows it could probably last forever.

Personally, I think the show went downhill sense Elmo started to become popular, and when Sesame Workshop owned The Muppet characters and had more control over the writing for The Muppet sketches.

To me, the series fell after Jim Hensons passing. He was the heart and soul not only of the Muppets but this show. Also the series lost it's edge after the eighties playing it more and more safe and dumbing down to the youngest common denominator. Of course with the book out I'm wondering if it will croncle the entire 40 year and not just a glimmer ofthe past.

Meh, I don't know. The book cover looks okay to me. But then again, it does look kinda cheap, in that they didn't really put THAT much effort into the design =/

Personally, I can't wait for this book, not even for a week. It's THAT cool. I'm most likely going to get this for my birthday (which, coincidentally with the release date of the book, is in October *WooHoo!*)
