If I was to pick which Beatles concert I'd like to go, I could easily go with Shea Stadium, 1965. But in all honesty, I'd go with this concert cos IMO where else could you find a better "Twist and Shout" or "Long Tall Sally" than this...
john kills it. even when he switches to the 'dead' mike his voice is louder than p&g's combined! in 63' he was even more powerful he had to stand 5 inches off mic (on those songs requiring he and P sing in same mic) to avoid completely drowning P. Source=P.
NOt to mention, they are playing through nothing but amps, and thats it. they could barely heart themselves, sound systems were so primitive back then.
wow they are so incredibly fuckin TIGHT! and John singing like mad man, with his mic swinging all over the place, in one of the first stadium shows ever played...
Wow, John messed up twice here, the first time may be a bit harder to catch, but he sings the wrong verse on "She Loves You", the second verse is suppose to be be the "She said you hurt her so" part but instead, John ends up singing the "You know it's up to you" verse twice! lol The second one is obvious, when he screams for the solo section, but the song's really going to the bridge! I don't fault him at all for it though, these things happen!
It's cute how Paul sings the words when John is singing the verses lol He just LOVES it up there! They all do at this point though. Great performance this is! But Murray the K didn't put the mic back properly so John had to deal with a jangly mic when singing you can't do that and Paul and George had to deal with it after!!
En 1:05 el terremoto indica quiénes mandaban en el ambiente musical de la época. Quizás los Stones originaban un sismo también, pero no hay modo de compararlo con este.
@ChitchSM ya i think they were supposed to play the instrumental part of the song but then george started singing 'eveybody's green' instead. So once John realized they were singing the chorus again he just went with it lol.
No, he wasn't! Carroll James was the first DJ to 'break' them and then several others around the country. Murray the K was one of the DJs in NYC and, like other stations around the country, jumped on the bandwagon. Check out The First U. S. Visit.
@Yellyist, I'm sure he is/was a great guy. But, that's what he got paid to do. Do you honselty think that if he didn't play Beatles songs they wouldn't have been as successful? Come on!

Murry the K was like all the middle aged DJs in the 1960s. They simply jumped on whatever bandwagon was passing through. He certainly got the crowd wound up fit to burst. Made Jimmy Saville's intros sound pretty tame.
@cozener1 To Murry the K`s credit, he started playing the Beatles before they were famous in America. He was one of the DJ`s that put "I want to hold your hand" on high rotation before it was a hit in America!
That's amazing! Watch in You Can't Do That...John howls and steps back for what he expects to be the solo part...and George and Paul lunge forward and sing: "everybody's green..." and John goes "WHOA!" haha. Even the greatest band in the stratosphere could get stuff wrong (but they covered it amazingly!) It just made me smile 'cos that's a REAL band at work, mistakes and all...
@burnsybaby1987 John ALWAYS got lyrics wrong and lost his place. You watch all their TV appearances and concert footage, John's always flubbing something. Didn't matter though!
@mkp823 Haha true, two that spring to mind immediately are The Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan in '65 (during 'I Feel Fine' I think), and the lads on the rooftop, John's gobbledygook verse in 'Don't Let Me Down'! Always knowing nods to McCartney which warms the heart.
Notice the difference between this show and the show from '65, here the Beatles are quite refrained and almost tame, in '65 and '66 they are in full control and completely at ease, knowing full well they are the biggest and the best.
@aimeemannfan2010 For your information he was an american DJ who played alot of Beatle records in his radio program and he was very popular with the fab four.

@GergelAni He was the first DJ to put the beatles on high rotation. He had a lot to do with their early success in the U.S. That`s not an opinion, that`s a fact!
@aimeemannfan2010 He was a New York City DJ, on WINS. He played the Beatles' music frequently before their first tour, and helped to promote them. He was given the nickname "The Fifth Beatle" because of that.
Can you imagine a band that big these days being asked to play with such ropey equipment?! Poor buggers, John must have been ready to spit during those first songs!
I like how John has a war with the mic, then complains to Paul, then they switch leving the problem to George who is holding on to it at one point!!, abs then ringo doing his normal a bobbing around on the drums, love those guys so much!!!
if u look at the other performances from this show...which includes the stones...the beatles blew the other groups off the stage...they sound like a had driving band, tighter great vocals and great energy....
i see why john said that in their prime as "live" performers..when they cared...they were a great band to see in the clubs...
after watching this clip..i now know what he meant...
Watching the whole concert shows just how damn good everyone was in those days. X-Factor? All those wannabees should be made to watch this and told, "When you're as good as any of those acts, then you'll have something to shout about."
Great video - I've seen John forget the words to a song or two but never where the lead break goes. LOL (You Can't Do That) I think he was distracted by the cheesy microphone stand.....
They were such honed musicians and performers after all the years in Hamburg. It was amazing to watch on "You Can't Do That" John have trouble with the mic, then he screamed into the guitar solo a verse too early (4:21), then George thought he and Paul were singing the back-up vocals ("you can't do that") when Paul had unknowingly walked away from him (4:59), and yet they kept plowing on with amazing energy and without missing a beat.
it's so funny - I have a feeling that only John and Ringo remebered to play the scaled down versions of the songs, Paul decides to mess up the middle part so John gets back at him by commandeering Paul's mic/stand for twist and shout (John was getting pissed with his). Either that or they were baked. Even Ringo took a turn by playing on the snare and keeping the beat while he was supposed to stop during w'with a love like that' George throws a knowing laugh that says something. love 'em
if you think about who they were individually as musicians paul, george and john, and how good they are, then it kinda makes it more amazing to see them all together singing at the same time. they have so much energy mixed together its amazing
John screwed up something up at 4:19......look at how surprised he is......he backs away from the mike expecting George to play the the short lead interlude.....he looks at George and paul like WTF......then realizes that the lead guitar part was later....paul is laughing at him......pretty funny.
LOL Wonder where JL's mind was at this show. Sang the last verse to "She Loves You' twice and forgot to sing the second verse then looked at PM and GH like they had missed it. LOL
This first section is a one way John thing. But where would he he have been without of the other 3-some?! Ayway, they were the great act, no doudt whatsoever.....
Notice how john is trying to adjust the mic. They changed the set from the previous band (whoever that was) so fast obviously. The is great seeing all these old bands play live. Usually its always resynced stuff from TV shows like Ed Sulliven.
Love John's premature scream at 4:19 and his huge step back from the microphone while the others oblivious to it, continue with the rest of that verse
Excellent video !! John`s flub during " You Can`t Do That " was priceless , and he recovered nicely . The rendition of " Twist And Shout " has got to be the best one they ever did . Thanks nyrainbow2 !!
@chuckiejay that flub was meant to be there :) its part of the verse, if you take a listen to the album version, its near enough the same, still looks cool though. and i agree with the rendition of Twist And Shout, was absolutely incredible, if you compare it to gigs like the budokan on their final tour, you can see that this is when they had the energy and the get up and go in them
@mackiex , well the atmosphere for a start, the bands are playing live and look happy to be there. Yes it's a more innocent time but that's part of the charm.
If suddenly they were back and we could see them live like this the world wouldn't be big enough for the audience.

Seems paul and john aren't singing the same lyrics around 2:00. Pauls mick is quite low though.

it's so funny - I have a feeling that only John and Ringo remebered to play the scaled down versions of the songs, Paul decides to mess up the middle part so John gets back at him by commandeering Paul's mic/stand for twist and shout (John was getting pissed with his).

John Lennon playing his solo at 4:55. Awesome!

Big VOX amps cranked to the max, muddy mics on floppy mounts... nothing can top the early 60's!!!

LOL

The Beatles are the best band ever and always will be no question
rickenbackerxbox360 1 year ago
Notice how john is trying to adjust the mic. They changed the set from the previous band (whoever that was) so fast obviously. The is great seeing all these old bands play live. Usually its always resynced stuff from TV shows like Ed Sulliven.

Love John's premature scream at 4:19 and his huge step back from the microphone while the others oblivious to it, continue with the rest of that verse

Excellent video !! John`s flub during " You Can`t Do That " was priceless , and he recovered nicely . The rendition of " Twist And Shout " has got to be the best one they ever did . Thanks nyrainbow2 !!
chuckiejay 2 years ago 2
He also sang the 3rd verse during the 2nd on She Loves You. He was notorious for singing the wrong words.
darkknight91 1 year ago 3
@chuckiejay that flub was meant to be there :) its part of the verse, if you take a listen to the album version, its near enough the same, still looks cool though. and i agree with the rendition of Twist And Shout, was absolutely incredible, if you compare it to gigs like the budokan on their final tour, you can see that this is when they had the energy and the get up and go in them

This footage makes The Brits look awfully boring. Must've been great being a teenager back then.

@mackiex , well the atmosphere for a start, the bands are playing live and look happy to be there. Yes it's a more innocent time but that's part of the charm.
