  • What kind of Potato did you use to record this video?

  • y don't you use volume pedal instead?

  • Thank you man. I will be using this al the time. Sounds awesome! Really like a violin!!

  • ..........and pow guitar volume knob is fried

  • To anyone who thinks this is useless, listen to the master of it! Blues Deluxe - Joe Bonamassa, live at Rockpalast

  • Have you ever heard a violin? I quess no -_-

  • Whats the problem of all of you stupid potatoheads? Ok its an old vid and not hte best, but I think it was nice..

Yngwie malmsteen uses it to btw

  • No.

  • why does everyone hate on this guy?? he´s trying to help people me coll souds on guitaa rand hes successful

  • this is an effect called slow gear... i have it on my boss me 70... just a little bit more analog delay added but its basically the same

  • possible only on a fender :P

the volume knob of the ibanez are fucking far far away :D

  • There is only one true master of the volume knob, and that is Jeff Beck. Everything you ever wanted to know about pulling a note out of thin air has been done by him.

  • This technique can sound very much like a violin. Do a YouTube search on Focus-Eruption (1971) Part 1 and listen to how Jan Akkerman gets a sound that to me is cross between a violin and trumpet.

  • che strazio!!!

  • this DOES sound like a violin dumbasses! I been playing the violin since I was 5 and guitar since I was 15 and while this is not masterful technique, it does sound like a violin. Again, not amazingly done but better than you punks can prolly do and better than I can do.

  • @Coppulor1 good trolling bro

  • @ShayCarlFan1000 Thanks! not trolling though. I really did play that long. Still have it too but only play guitar. And I never said this guy was great. Just that it does sound like a violin if you have any imagination at all and can get pretend you are not looking at a guitar. Hell, play it to a non-guitarist without letting them look and see what they say. They defilly will not say guitar. Dude needs practice though. :)

  • or you could by an ebow lol

  • this is my sick cat trying to vomit

  • sounds more like a vacuum cleaner to me

  • sooo how do you do it i think its pretty interesting..

  • Your Tit Mashes up your guitar xD!!!!!

  • Type this title, and ejoy:

    Roy Buchanan 1976 / Hey Joe:Foxy Lady

  • I suggest to listen Roy Buchannan - master of this style..

  • LISTEN EVERYONE. I'M WRITING IN CAPS TO GET YOUR ATTENTION AND BECAUSE I ENJOY IT. TO GET THE BEST EXAMPLE OF THIS TECHNIQUE, WATCH "VENICE QUEEN LIVE AT SLANE CASTLE - RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS" FRUSCIANTE IS THE MAN!

  • gagow

  • This is I think the slow attack guitar effect

  • Rush did it very well in the song Xanadu for like the first 1 or 2 minutes

  • Not complaining, just pointing out that it's called swelling.

  • Lol you get stoned a lot.

  • Paganini is nothing by comparison with you.

  • love how the shit quality is in the same key as your playing.

  • lol yngwie malmsteen does that lol search him up rock god!!

  • @BrandenLeRoy2011 Check out Hendrix or Van Halen's Cathedral!

  • This would give more of a backwards guitar sound if you had delay set to it. Although it still sort of does without delay.

  • Yup, they're called volume swells. The Beatles used this technique in Yes It Is (while I think they used a volume pedal in I Need You to the same effect). In recent years the technique was championed by Jeff Beck. See for example his rendition of Over the Rainbow.

  • @ClueBand

Jan Akkerman was the 1st I ever heard

  • just get a violin dude~!

  • thanks for that. I've always wondered how Steve Howe got sounds like that out of his guitar. Fantastic.

  • sooo you play the note while you lower the volume and than before you pick the other note you return the volume all the way up and repeat??? tell me if im right. and i dont have a delay pedal, but how does the delay pedal kick in???

  • casso zea sta merda...

  • Swells! Good work man!

  • jackthrift 6 listen to brothers in arms. mark knopfler uses this technique to great effect.

  • figarfigarofigarooooo

  • It's actually called volume swelling

  • ...Or you just buy Rosin and Violin bow and do it Jimmy Page style.... Just saying....

  • This doesn't sound like a violin at all!

  • @SalemStyx a violin CAN sound like this, you can definitely picture a violin producing this sound. Is this all a violin can sound like? NO. But none the less does this sound like one? YES!

  • take your whammy bar and use it on the high e string like a bow it sounds fuckin cool and it play each note for the fret your on

  • ok... so you can tool with the "Xanadu" song by "Rush" and you use the same effects they do... and to you it sounds kinda "violin- like"... cool... you need work on giving an accurate description of your videos though... I stumbled onto this page because I was trying to find a way to make my guitar sound like a violin.

  • well.... how

  • Doesn't sound like a violin, and you don't show us how to do it. Not that I'd want to, since it doesn't sound good, but your title is misleading.

  • I can make my acoustic sound like the bass

  • I can do it better with my boss GT-10 -_-

  • That is not a violin, that´s a bad thing that I don´t understand

  • this sounds like a dying fly...ha,ha,ha....

  • Behringer makes a slow motion pedal modeled from the old 80's boss slow gear gear and it's like 25.00 on e-bay then you don't have to wear out your volume pots, but good video otherwise, just thought that might make things easier for ya.

  • now you need to learn how to play with a violin bow and then you can get money by playing on street.

  • I think people are mixing up violining (pinky roll on the vol knob) and EJ style violin tone, either way though...

  • Try using a mode or a scale instead of randomly playing notes. You should remove this video. It's terrible. The most painful 1:41 ever.

    Everyone hates you.

  • This video would be better if you showed how to do it. You've got talent- keep on working at it.

  • how do you play music with this mousy sounding technique?

  • @jackthrift This technique is widely used in particular kinds of music such as psychedelic rock. I agree, however, that this is not the best video of it out there, it's very old, but I can't be bothered to make a new one..

  • it's a game with volume...

  • fail... not only it sounds horrible... but it also sounds nothing like a violin))

  • Can you do this with volume pedal?

  • @DaAzisum yeah you can do that; it's also much easier :)

  • @edoardoruggeri1 Ok, and I just realised that my Boss ME-70 pedal has this Slow Gear efect that does the same thing, so I have to only play notes

  • The point was to sound LIKE a violin.not make the guitar a violin so take that into mind before you post rude comments

  • Well a guitar is a guitar, not a violin, but nice anyway :D

  • This is really neat! I wish I could do that. This would make for some interesting instrumentals..

  • listen to yngwie doing this

  • First of all, You didn't teach anybody anything. Second I play violin and guitar and that sounds nothing like a violin lol.

  • @kapoopoof

The technique for achieving this effect is quite visible and clear, and I think that's what this gentleman was trying to get across. All these negative comments were unnecessary and uncalled for. What would you lose by appreciating his efforts, or just moving on to whatever else you were looking for on YouTube? We would all be better people if we refrained from expressing negative thoughts and feelings. Just a small idea which is really not small at all, if you think about it.

  • sounds kinda cool but..... have you ever heard a violin?

  • sounds like crap

  • @PahaKeisari what does crap sound like?

  • @coltonandsydney123 Crap sounds like that guitar. And vice versa.

  • Ta tudo errado

  • i keep trying that.. but i cant play and do that volume knob thing at the same time .. haha lol

  • looks like your just fingering your guitar

it also doenst sound lika afuck

  • @jamesmanortiz Stfu. unfortunately I am not Eric Johnson. But then again... you are not either.

  • @edoardoruggeri1 i know im not eric johnson im just saying it sounds bad dude.... what you cant agree like your just playing random notes and your distortion sounds horrible not that distortion sounds good i prefer a smooth overdrive, but im not trying to be a dick but... c'mon you cant agree

  • @jamesmanortiz *facepalm* First you tell him he sounds shitty, and then you say you're not trying to be a dick? Lol, people say the weirdest things on the internet.

  • @thejesman i ohly said it sounded shitty because it sounds like hes playing random notes, and he does it to fast

  • @jamesmanortiz There's a difference between constructive criticism and being an a-hole.

  • @edoardoruggeri1 exactly good work bro its not something u get overnight

  • @jamesmanortiz yngwie malmsteen does it even better and i dont see you putting up a vid of you doing so fuck off

  • @chaz9123 Wow, you guys are still taking my old comment up the ass, why would i post a video of me doing the violin effect? And second of all i dont have a camera, and i'm not going to go out and buy one. Like i said listen to Eric, or Steve Howe do it and there's your example.

  • @jamesmanortiz whos eric johnson?

  • That's so eddy van halen xD

  • @Affe15lol actually ritchie blackmore was using it in his songs way before van halen did :p

  • do i realy need a delay to do the violin effect??? cant i do it with just distortion and the volume thingy?

  • @blurginouliz You don't need the delay to do it, it just gives a nicer and wider sound. You can of course do it just with the volume knob, like I showed here

  • @edoardoruggeri1'Fake and gay, doesn't work on acoustic :P:P: jk man

  • There are pedals and stuff for this :)

  • look at his picking and you shall know how to make the violen sound

  • Hey I have the same guitar! >:D

  • how do you set the delay? thx :)

  • @ibnGTR You can set the delay as you wish, but out of a scale of 10 I would recommend to not go over the 4 ;)

  • It would be alot more effective using the same logic but with a volume pedal and a compressor.

  • it's a volume swell but the licks are just horrible... hope u already mastered it now.

  • chido :D

  • trash

  • boring as hell.

  • Comment removed

  • What you need is a digital delay to make it sound more like a violin. Check out Yngwie Malmsteen Echo Etude, or most of his live solos!

  • how do ya do the sound with a violin bow on a guitar though thats what i wanna know ? sorry if this soundsstupid im just new to this

  • this is not really a "how to" video, so much as a "i-can-do-this-and-i'm-just-gonna-do-it-with-out-showing-u-how-to-do-it-urself" video..

  • @uTubeChangedMyLife Look, if you can't understand how to do it by watching this video, then I'm sorry for you, you have no spirit of observation and a minimum of analysis capabilities.

  • @edoardoruggeri1 But then it's just a video, and not a how to video. A how to means you show them, you know... how to. This is a watch it and hope it's easy enough to pick up video... It's cool, I'm with you on that, but it's not actually how-to. it's just labeled wrong is all.

  • @edoardoruggeri1 is it the way u pluck the string?

  • @Googly181 No, you have to turn the volume knob while you pluck the string

  • @edoardoruggeri1 Yeah, it's like asking for tabs when when you can see both hands playing in a good quality. People are just too lazy.

  • @uTubeChangedMyLife It's done by turning the guitar volume knob all the way off, then you hit the note your after and roll the volume on. By doing this you eliminate the pick 'attack' sound, and create a smooth 'bowing' sound. It sounds a lot better if you use a delay pedal to play every second note. Check out Yngwie Malmsteen ECHO ETUDE, or almost any of his live solos, for a far more convincing version than this pissy version.

  • @uTubeChangedMyLife are u stupid? LOL

  • hahaha

  • hahahaha

  • hes striking the string while messing with the volume knob look at his pinky god everyones a dumbass on here

  • THIS IS NOT A VIOLIN!

  • kinda sounds like an effect josh homme uses from qotsa. good sound, but after a few friends listening to it without the video, they all said guitar.

  • Why is everyone trying to light him on fire!? and for those people who want a HOW TO, just WATCH him! Look what he's doing with his volume knob. How hard is it to figure it out?

  • Yeah, that's great!

  • you could just play canon rock which is a guitar version of canon by johann pachelbel which does sound like a violin

  • How can you teach others things you cant do?

  • @Sephy7777 mh wait, now im gonna laugh... hahahaha....... not.

Upload a video of you then, k?

  • mega shit

  • @Arcanage just like you (Y)

  • @edoardoruggeri1 lol yeah! :D

  • @Arcanage It's awesome when people agree, isn't it!

  • @edoardoruggeri1 nah :(

  • @edoardoruggeri1 rubbish man dont listen to that dude. At least you made a video. Good job bro. Take care and have fun

  • @edoardoruggeri1 That was a terrible comeback.

  • thats pretty kool. Its amazing that Alex Lifeson used that method so many years ago on Rush farewell to kings album

  • Sounds like Genesis. Cool.

  • hey...man...mucho ruido...eh q molesto

  • Same guitar bro i have the same color too

  • All right! Now try playing the intro to "Xanadu" by Rush. :P Alex Lifeson uses this technique in the song.

  • Hey idiots, you can see he's using the fucking knob.

  • rollin that knob. tricky on some other guitars

  • Hank Marvin (The Shadows) uses this beautiful effect in some of his songs...and I wondered how he did it. Thanks!

  • i think i got the excact same guitar

  • It is harder if you actually pick the notes, tapping works pretty well. That way you can cleanly hit all the notes. A volume pedal would probably work great.

  • How I can do that sound?

  • Just roll the volume down and up after you hit the note, its not anything new, first time I heard it was on In memory of Eliz Reed by the Allman Brothers in the Live at Fillmore East Album but was probably done before that by someone else

  • All you do is start the note with the volume down, and turn the knob up as you play the note. Pedals work great, but the simple volume knob should suffice :)

  • dont think he knew where he was goin with that

  • i hav same guitar

  • Cool, gonna try this to see if it'll work for the intro of "Afterlife" by Avenged Sevenfold haha.

  • Rofl, try it. No, try the solo! Now that's a challenge rofl!

  • @Radiscool1

Trust me, I have tried it DX

I can only get through like the first half.

  • boring..............

  • ah, so that must be how they do te guitary synthy sounding thing in shine on you crazy diamonds by pink floyd!

  • are u using a delay?

  • @weaponx29 Nope, I'm using just the volume know, but for a better result you can add a little delay ;)

  • This is really cool! how do you adjust the pedal and the sound knob to make it sound like this.

  • @Eliplatypus I wasn't using any pedal, I was just turning the volume knob

  • funny how my cat made these exact same noises when i showed him this video.

  • i favourite this video and watch it when i'm drunk or high on weed. the trips just get better.

  • It's called a chorus pedal.

  • @towndrunk13569 I'm not using any pedals

  • just buy an ebow man

    so much nicer sounding

  • brilliant playing!

  • sounds cool but ive never heard a violin sound anything like that

  • it sounds exactly like a violin, ill fucking kill you!!!!!!!!! aHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How can someone who was born in FKN states or whereever complain about someone´s english? Do U know any language except english u F...? English is my 3rd language too and i respect people who knows at least 2-3 languages! About vid-its not bad,it can helps if u re guitar begginer-you know u can make sound like this on your guitar,so it mean ist helpfull.Dont listen that I D iots and keep playing budy! Regards! ... Iam waiting 4 critism to my english,so come on b.a stards:-)

  • Add more reverb and this could be something.
