  • My clk55 does 4.5 but it weighs 3400lbs

  • Actually that's Mercedes being a bad publicist, being too conservative with there performance figures. To be honest it's more like guessing for them, whereas Nissan for example, tests there cars numerous times and put there best time as the figure they advertise. The old slk55 with 355hp can easily get 4.5 without a launch even though Mercedes claims it to be 4.7 , so for the new one with over 400hp them saying 4.5 will probably mean less than 4.3

  • the new stock slk 55 amg goes up from 0 to 100 in 4,5!

  • Hell, I can get almost that in an slk 350. (friend works at a car dealer) We were getting (5mph rolling starts) to 60 in about 5 sec flat in the slk 350 we were testing. Straight off the line, the best we could get was 5.8 sec and a little of that was due to car's rear tires breaking loose. Leaving on the nannies (esc and trac control I think - may have been called something else since its a merc), it seems like they limit power way too much making for a really dull takeoff.

  • 5.2 sec? I was expecting road and track to be beter drivers than that lol. This car should easily be running low 4s

  • he did 0-60 in 5.13 ,lol a 370z automatic does better than that

  • How the hell do they make it weigh so much? Holy crap.

  • "...to be a serious competitor, we need to remove some of that weight and a fixed roof would be an obvious solution."

    *coughSLK55AMGBlackSeriescough*

Also: the driver got to 60 in 5.23s (~1:18). C'mon man, C/D did it in 4.3...

  • I don't the the Black was available back then and also..the car is auto so the car did it in 5.2 secs to 60 not the driver

  • @red33m23

The black series was made from 2006-2008. This is a road test for the 2009 model.

I don't know if you've ever driven a car before, but shifting isn't the sole factor in determining acceleration. Not to mention the fact that the 55 has a manual (paddle-shift) setting.

  • @GNoble4 The guy in the video is not using the manual setting and even if he did still it is not manual enough for me..or any other Driver for that matter

  • @red33m23

"or any other Driver for that matter"

Debatable. The first slushboxes were just that. But have you heard that both Ferrari and Lamborghini have just done away with the manual tranny altogether?

  • @GNoble4 This is because Ferrari and Lamborghini or any other expensive and exclusive car owners are mainly posers ;) Come on what is more exciting even for you...clicking a button.. or pushing the clutch ,sliding the gear in and releasing the clutch back in?

  • these cas (slk, sl) are all for the daily driver who likes to have comfort, prestige, and a little bit extra speed in their ride... if you really want something fast from mercedes try the clk63 black seriesamg w/ removed back seats for better performance of the sl65 amg black series. maybe even the c63 amg

  • right performance...if you cared for performance you would have gotten something else than a SL65AMG. for its retail sticker you might as well save yourself 40% and get a ZR1 and haul ass.

these benz's are grand tourers, you ride fly, comfortable and still have the power for the occasional burst of speed.

off topic, this SLK55 is now certified used for around 35k, thats a steal.

  • @xchrisbobisx But corvettes are for tasteless old guys with a mustache and a small penis, benz is style

  • because I speak english you assume I'm american.. guess what. I'm not. anyway. a v8 engine adds hundreds of pounds to the car, to improve only 55 hp, costing thousands of dollars more, it becomes pointless. dont get me wrong I love the amg models. but paying a lot more money for 55 more horsepower? I'd stick with the v6.

  • when the slk 55 was launched in 2004 , the 350 version had only 272 hp, so there was a bigger difference between the v6 and v8, in 2008 when they facelifted the slk, they revised the 350 engine with higher compresion, resulting 305 hp. The 55 engine remained untouched, since it would not be worthy, adding a supercharger to ~ 500 hp would have been to much, the cheapest AMG would have been then also the fastest and it's the final years for the R171, soon the new slk will enter the market.

  • the 55HP difference is 14.1 sec 1/4 mile in slk350 vs. 12.5 in the SLK55, plus a hand made kick ass v8 AMG engine.

  • how come the v8 5.5 liter has 355 hp, if the same car with the v6 3.5 engine has 300hp ? that's not much of improvement

  • because 5.5 v8 supercharged could already have 517hp as it is on the other models...(now it s an old engine and it s used no more..) but on slk that power should be exagerated...so mercedes choose this configuration...in order to improve the torque instead...however it s not a bad car ignorants....u americans'd better learn to drive instead of talking about stuff u don t know at all a part from tv...go out from ovals and drag tracks and drive more...it s a friendly tip...sorry for my english

  • 355hp may seem low, but the car actually runs a 1/4 of around 12.7, only 0.2s higher than the 5.5 supercharged E55.

  • 0-60 in 5.5? that sucks

  • 0-60 in 4.3. 1/4 mile in 12.7 seconds. whoever got 5.5 doesnt know how to drive.

  • @Trancekam Thank you! :)

  • mercedes really just won't sacrifice enough creature comforts to make real sports cars for the driving enthusiast

they are really nice but just way to soft and heavy, the SL and SLK are more like mini GTs than a sports car

an S2000, z4, 370z, solstice, 135i, are all much better choices for a sports car

  • If I have the money, I would buy the V-6(3.5L)version and order the AMG body kit for it!of course, she will be slam down with the coil over suspension and 19 wheels from Brabus! I will be a happy man!

  • not much bigger than a miata... but it weighs over 3600 lbs. My volvo 940 weighs less than that car.

  • If you ask me mercedes has lsot it's name due to no major changes with such a simple design its been using since 1995.

Now I know theres a few 200k plus cars they sale but even those aren't that creative

  • we are 138
