However, I think in him taking that stance, he's attempting to reconcile his view point (that torture is fundamentally wrong) with the criticisms raised by the right: the faulty argument of releasing these photos endangers American soldiers.

Lots of spending but also lots of promising things such as the return of science, the return of a president that can articulate a coherent thought (that's always good), the return of a certain amount of integrity (closing Guantanamo, for example), etc. He's not perfect, but he's trying to reconcile this political divide we see plaguing our country and I respect him for it.
