Perfect ending in Godfather II. Michael has lied and murdered his way to the top. Lied to his wife, Connie, Carlo. Murdered Tessio, Carlo, Fredo, Hyman Roth, Moe Green, Barzini, Philip Tetaglia and more. Lied to Congress under oath. At the pinacle of his wealth and power, no one to challenge him. And he sits on a bench, utterly alone and totally empty.
@thespotteddog man honestly this film is i feel once in a life time. think about this, the heavens aligned to make this, it had nothing to do with talent. i mean there is so many talented people in hollywood. the perfect composer with the ABSOLUTE perfect director with perfect actors and crew. like this will never happen and if it does, it will be pure luck.
@NikeAurrs45 I work my whole life, I don't apologize, to take care of my family. And I refused to be a fool dancing on the strings held by all of those big shots.
in a way, this score summarizes the movie... you can almost "hear" the good times and the violence--both at the same time-- in the flow of the notes...
I can never end my day without listening to this perfect piece of art. every time i listen i still felt the moment of Micheal sitting on the chair in silent....just wondering what he was thinking.....
Bella, absolutamente bella! The soundtrack at least, and dare I say, the film, is superior to the original. One of Nino Rota's greatest achievements, and one of the best in film music history! It was only fitting that he was awarded the Oscar for this soundtrack =D
There must be some sort of rule that only the first two films in a series that revolutionizes a genre can be great. You have The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, Alien and Aliens, and The Terminator and Terminator 2, all of which are great films. But then you have films that suck, such as The Godfather Part III, Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead, Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection, and Terminator 3. I dont know what it is, but its weird.
I've heard of very few cases when the third installment measured up to the first two or was even considered the best of the three (such as Crash Bandicoot 3 and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban).
It's like an unbreakable pattern. Mind you, it usually happens when there's a change of director or producers.
Well, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is considered the best of Sergio Leones Clint Eastwood trilogy, but its been years since Ive seen any of those films.
Ive only seen the 1st 3 Potter films, but while not bad, theyre just too juvenile to rank alongside the classics I mentioned.
They've got to be VERY careful with what they do. I think the first best thing would be for them to mention that the Joker is locked up.
I, for one, think a good storyline would be (for instance), Catwoman starting her own crusade against crime to replace Batman, since she knows Batman is innocent of Harvey Dent's crimes, and eventually the two have to avoid the police and maybe go up together against the Riddler, all the while falling in love.
Just a suggestion. No more Joker, without Ledger.
I havent seen The Dark Knight (and Ledger was simply terrible in Brokeback Mountain), but while Batman Begins was a good film, even a good action film, it doesnt even match up to the first Batman by Tim Burton. Nicholson gave that film a camp element that Begins lacks and superhero films need camp- after all, theyre about men in tights.
Men in tights? Batman wears body armour now. And camp should be left out of films that are dark in nature ("Batman & Robin", anyone?).
And come on, Ledger wasn't that bad in Brokeback Mountain. He was nominated for an Oscar, after all, but didn't win because the Academy didn't like the gay love scenes.
Yes, but The Dark Knight is simply a dull action film. Were given no reason to care for the characters, because the film assumes that we care about the characters having seen them in the previous film. And Ledgers Joker is simply dull. Hes a generic psychopath, no different from a thousand others in Hollywood. He couldve been a plague of locusts. Eckhart was actually far more interesting.
Hoffman won because he gave a great performance, whereas Ledger simply spent the whole film mumbling.

Seriously Henry shut the fuck up . Heath's performance was hailed by critics, who should I believe, a realiable source, or some dumbfuck that all that does it bitch on youtube . Also your a dumbfuck once again . You haven't seen the darknight and your saying its a dull film ? Say that to 81% in metacritic, and 1 billion plus at the box office . Instead of some random person that only bitches cause he has no life . Done !
how is it that filmmakers make a film, and then make a sequel that beats the original in almost every way???? They did it with Godfather II, The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2, Shrek 2, X-Men 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, etc.
And why are the third films always not as good?? It's like a pattern that can't be defied........
Yeah. I think it's because the sequels tend to be darker and more epic. They also don't need to introduce the characters and stuff. They just immediately begin the story.
The third movies always suck because they have to hurry up and finish the story by the time it's over. And they usually want to end on a happy note, so the dark tone of the first sequel is thrown out the window.
Al Pacino representing the godfather. After Marlon Brando one of my favourite actors. And yes like the others i must agree to it that this music comes from the hart and it shows us how times have changed. the mob has changed as so the world has.
I think this musical piece is a great reflection of the power, but also the love and sense of closeness of the Corleone family. The price of Michael's "victory" is the completion of the ruin of his soul, which began in the first film. It is a portrait of a man alone who realizes he has betrayed his own ideals and himself. It is the perfect allegory of America in the early and mid 1970's - where love of country and neighbor was betrayed by the paranoia and corruption of Vietnam and Watergate
