I like to slid in to the gill plate to get the hook out. Very little damage to fish if its done right. Make sure not to touch the gills though.

WOW some really nice pikes!! i always wanted to catch one on the fly, but there is not not a very good pike-population in my rivers here, it´s a little bit frustrating, anyway nice video and tight lines from austria!!

We should of had a couple of big cradles. Our regular nets came up looking very small next to those massive Pike. If anyone else goes fly fishing for trophy Pike, do yourselves a favor and bring a cradle.
