I accidentally reformatted an external hard drive with lots of folders and sub-folders. Just a question: does Photorec restore the files in their folders the way they used to be organized or does it stuff them all in just one folder and I have to sort it all myself (thousands of photos, videos, mp3's and documents...)?

It if very good method to recover pictures with, but I could not get back my 1500 word document. It converts all documents (word, exel, powerpoint etc) to txt format. Sad.

That PhotoRec really sucks! Bcoz i'm done recovering my files and then the photorec says your recovered files is save at documents but when i look at the documents there are NO FILES!!! I tried to recovered again and it was still like that! It was a fucking shit software!

DMDE simpler is better. In difficult cases, allows you to analyzing and editing HEX. It can do 1:1 copies for file and disk.

But above all it shows what TestDisk will not show by making it much better and safer to use it.Can recover from the failed raid. It also has its flaws does not support linux ext it is about to change. Does not recover as PhotoRec.

@bloodstaindmind Well, no 100% guarantee, but i got lotsa files back. There were lots of pictures on the drive (Iomega 2x500GB JBOD) and i got 53k pictures back. Also my pc did make thumbnails of them so it worked.

But your talking about formatting, i dont know what you mean with that. My drive had a RAW filesystem, so i guess the MBR broke because of a faulty drive. But this app found the partition back so it did recover some if not all files.

can you tell me if this will work on my lap top. my laptop is a dell inspiron 1100 that i had revently replaced the fried hard drive from a hard drive i got form a ibm think pad and the hard drive is read in the bios it says all the things like its got 60gigs of memory but when i tried to install windows xp to it it got to the part after the lincse agreement it went to the blue screen of death saying it has a error 000000051 and when i searched it on google it was a corrupted FAT
