I walked up to that protest. It was a fucking embarrassment to be Irish. Apart from the fact that it was a pretty serious issue at stake (well, it was to me yesterday, I'm getting over it now) that prick - no, that cunt who plays Dustin came down for 2 or 3 minutes to talk shite and promote HIS NEW DVD FOR CHRISTMAS. Then he left! Also, all the skangers were laughing their heads off at it. We were supposed to be fucking angry!
@vodkajihad Jesus take a chill pill. Would you rather the Irish fans had of rioted in Paris after the match?? Of course this march was suppose to be good humoured!
Let's see... could take the number of times each of the sides have made it to a major tournament in the last, say, 20 years, the number of tounaments won, number of players in major club sides and so on... but yeah, completely ridiculous idea to even bring up!
@NadineWithFlowers why go back 20 years? Who from the french and Irish team was playing back then? Why not just look at this qualification? or indeed the last two times France played where their first goal was a lucky deflection and their second wrong for so many reasons.
I hate the fact people right Ireland off before they even play, surely if there's anything we can take from this match it is no the future we can beat the likes of France.
Sure, just keep telling yourself that a side that can't even win their home matches and have to cling on to a 1-0 away lead when it could and should have been 3:0 can beat "the likes of France" anytime simply because you say so. Enjoy.
Telling myself what? France's first goal came from a deflection fact. Frances 2nd goal shouldn't have been fact.
We can beat the likes of france as we did in Paris over 90 minutes fact, not because I say so.
You said Ireland probably would have their asses kicked based on how france played 5, 10 and 20 years ago. How does that make sense when we can see how France preformed against Ireland in 2 matches in the last week!?
I was expecting some under-the-belt reference at some point, well done. By referring to the # of players (currently) playing for major club sides, of tournaments reached and won I was simply trying to illustrate that France have a bigger pool of talent and tradition to draw from. Also you're blissfully ignoring the fact that Ireland did terribly in their home match and had enough chances in Paris to avoid going out on the 1:1 draw.
Nadine you started this by saying Ireland would probably get their asses kicked if there was a replay, I dissagreed based on what I've seen in Dublin and Paris.
No Dublin wasn't a great Irish preformance but the French did get a lucky goal.
In Paris we played the French off the pitch and activily looked for a 2nd.
Ireland won the match in Paris over 90 minuites so why do you feel the need to redicule the idea that Ireland 'can' (not will) beat big teams like France in the future?
Look, France have had and will always have a much larger pool of talent to use in their campaigns. They remained far below their potential while Ireland, at least in France, exhausted all of what they had. If there were to be a replay, do you really think France are going to embarass themselves again and not get their arses up for once? For Ireland, a performance like last Wednesday's is a big achievement that cannot be repeated on request. I'd have liked Ireland to have qualified ...
... for the world cup, both because my partner is Irish and because I thought they played a good qualifying campaign for what they have. Solely because of the fact that it just is a small country with limited talent, though, fans have fans have to accept that they can't keep up a consistent high level.
"We can beat the likes of france as we did.." So you're playing for Ireland now too? And with our without your help, how will a side like Ireland be able to bring out performances like the one on Wednesday on a regular basis, or even say against the next bigger team that they play?
Slovenia, incidentally, managed what Ireland failed to do and showed the FIFA the finger by kocking Russia out of the relegation. But why commend their achievement when you can just continue moaning?
in fairness we have a right to it look at the way the draw was seeded so that the big countries would not face each other fifa was against us from the start and how the reff an linesman did not see the handball is just crazy
Get a life yiz bunch of clowns, ur making ireland look like a bunch of sore losers. Its a fuckin soccer match, we didnt offer Georgia a reply when we robbed them so GET OVER IT!
did you not see how the french media has turned on its team and called for domenech's resignation, and 4 out of 5 french people voting against their team. do you not think the irish reaction and proactivity had anything to do with that? you're the only muppet. you'll sit on your hole drinking pints and support the team, but when it comes to getting out there and doing something active, you'll criticize your own country instead.
@eoghanharris please show me where 4 our of 5 french people voted against their team?
And no i don't think the irish reaction or proactivity has anything to do with any support that we might have gained. That came purely from the incident at hand. Going out and making a fool of yourselves is only likely to hurt any support Ireland might have gained.
This is not going out there and doing something active, it's going out and embarrassing your country. you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Thing is, if they were to have a replay Ireland would probably have their arse kicked.

@NadineWithFlowers I suppose we're going to have to agree to dissagree then.
In the Euros we will have something to prove and under Trap I truely believe there's no-one we can't beat.

Slovenia did a great job! As did England, Spain, Northern Ireland played a good campaign as well. lets see did I miss anyone out?
Let me phrase this a little bit more tactfully. What is your problem with an Irish Supporter taking hope fromof a wonderful Irish performance?
Your evidence for Ireland getting their asses kicked in a replay doesn't stand up because of those preformances.
Incidentally I dont think there should be a replay.
wildeside1 2 years ago
you tool, you're contradicting yourself.. 'could and should have been 3:0'
Whys that? do you think its possibly because we outplayed them, at all,... maybe... just a little ?

'cannot be repeated on request'?... what makes you so sure? and who asked them to do it in the first place? the nation had half given up on them.
