I imagine myself in a tuxedo smoking some really expensive cigar, driving a vintage car all over the Brazillian terrain. Gosh, I can really feel Brazil with this.
Great version , congrats! Nice tone and playing. However I feel the swing is just a bit off and needs to be a little more relaxed. But as I'm brazilian , I guees I'm just kinda accustomed with a more bossa-like swing than the jazz swing. It's still much better than most american "bossa" players I've seen in youtoube.
Thanks! If I get a thumbs-up from a brazilian, it's more than I deserve.
Working on that elusive thing called swing is an ever ongoing activity. At least for me. Wish I could borrow a bit of Richard 'Groove' Holmes brain regarding the swing departement :-)

Hi dear Rounder - very fine work! Rather a co-incidence, as I recently uploaded a bossa-nova medley containing this piece, albeit a completely different treatment than yours. Since uploading I've improved on it somewhat, and will eventually have to replace it with a more together version, nonetheless for what it's worth, one can tack this suffix after the youtube-com prefix: "watch?v=amX1vRsdaUI"
Another great video. I always learn something new or get a new idea after watching each of your vids. Coincidentally, I'm getting back on my Nord 2 after 1 year of doing mostly pop on acoustic piano. Good to see you've got more vids since last time I've been here. Love your rendition on this song... and a very gutsy ending. Fully commited to the rythm. Cool.... Keep 'em coming.
It's really great that we can inspire and learn from each other here at YouTube :-)
Good to hear that you like my take and the ending. One line of thinking behind my arrangement was to 'rewind' the song after the short solo part, so the song ends the same way it starts.
Before the recording I actually did try a number of different variants regarding registrations and Leslie during the song, but it always ended up that I favoured this one setting. I don't know why but maybe this sound setting gets me in the right mood :-)
The difference between this recording and when I play the song is that I play the solo much longer (on top over the Em bass line, without chord changes). But for this take I kept the solo short.
Man thanks a lot for keep playing this awesome music! Even though I'm not in this league at all, I find it really enjoyable to listen to your playing! I wish I will be able to play this kind of music one day!
1. Learn the main bass pattern (the Em pattern, with the notes E, A, B) and play that pattern until it's a part of you, totally ingrained.
2. Then you start adding small right hand figures, while keeping the left hand groove. You can add small Em blues pentatonic licks/riffs. Or the first parts of the melody.
Rounder, if you like latin jazz with b3 there is an album called "Samba de Gringo" with Ehud on the hammind and Bina on the guitars. Pretty cool stuff.
And there is this other album called "Bluesamba" from Lancaster e Flávio Naves that has more of a bluesy appeal but a lot of brazilian flavors and a killer b3 timber.
Yeah, what would the music world be without Brazilians? Not so much as it is now. Jobim, just to mention one, has written some pretty amazing songs with wonderful chord progressions, melodies and rhythms.

In the beginning and end it sounds like your farting when you hit that one key a bunch of times. Excuse you!

Really cool rendition, congratz :-)
Maybe you could throw in a registration switch somewhere or add some leslie/vibrato. I think that would make the tune -perfect-!

Nice job Rounder! The solo was nice and really tasteful. I loved the whole song!

Thanks Alex!
I decided to keep the solo rather short and 'concentrated', and instead let the other parts of the song take time.

Well, you can start by doing like this:
3. Then build it from there.
In jazz organ, the left hand is always The Boss.
