I have a question: Let's say squad A is in melee combat with squad B. Is it possible for another enemy squad (let's call them squad C) to join the ongoing assault?
@KenLeonhardt short answer, yes. On the turn that Squad C assaults, they would get the extra attack (unless negated by special rules like weird grenades that cause the assaulting army to not get extra attacks). Only thing is that Squad C must have a member of the unit in base to base with the enemy. Hope this helps.
iv got a question, if 4 nobs assault..say..a sanguinary gaurd, and manage to get 5 wounds on him. Do u roll 5 armor saves? or do u just roll once for yur armor save? (im very new to this, literaly last night), im having an arguement with a mate and he thinks its just once, but that doesnt make sense, i would assume u have to save against each wound. thx guys! :D
If a defender is in base to base with an enemy model, can he then use defenders react to move himself into base contact with an independent character?
Example: If had a unit with power fist (with str 8), and the assaulters had a Chaos Lord (T4). Could I then choose to move that power fist guy into base to base with the Chaos Lord, to try to instant kill him?
thanksfor reply mate, so its not as indepth as the official 40k 5th edition book? as im planning on starting warhammer after 6 years, i was wonder regarding the SM new code, can BT chose to follow that or there old book? as ive been researching difference. SM codex, storm shields recieve a 3+ invul to all, and BT only 4+ in close combat!
@Adrian890722 Glad the videos are helpful. The rule is that you have to play in only one codex. For BT, you're stuck with the BT rules. This is a major gripe I have about GW as they are not providing balance between various codexes. It forces people to buy into multiple armies. This may be okay if you've only bought 1500 to 2000 points of each army.... but I've got over 7000 points of black templar. Have I played them as a standard SM codex chapter? sure, but I really enjoy playing as BT.
@sundragon35 yes more than one squad can assault the same squad but no, you cannot shoot into the locked in combat unit. the exception to this is where a blast template scatters on to a unit that is in cc
you should reference the ork codex, but I think ork boys have 2 base attacks. If they have 2 close combat weapons (or a close combat weapon and a pistol unless the close combat weapons is a power claw or fist), it jumps to 3. If they assault, they get 4 on the player turn where they assault.
u said that if a unit gets completely wiped out in one turn of assault they can still fire back to cause some damage b4 they're removed, do they only get to do this because nobody in that assault has a higher innitiative of 4, but if the black space marines had an innitiative of 5, would the white ones still b able to strike back after being destroyed, if no what does the innitiative do to help a player if its not a first strike and then remove casualties????
if the black space marines had initiative of 5, then the white space marines had initiative of 4 and where wiped, they would not get a chance to fight back.
thanks for the uploads of this serie, i am a beginner ( blood angels ) and i got an question. what if i dont want to shoot anyone but i can shoot may i still assault every group then or do i need to shoot to assault (because you said that on the movie)
you do not need to shoot to assault. If you DO shoot, you must include the unit you shot at in the assault. A video that I haven't released for Series 3 will review this rule. It's a multi-unit assault (5 units in one assault)
wait! its so simple now! u calculate the number of times ur squad can attack then u roll that number of die and look at there ws to see how high u have to roll then u roll and take out all the non hitting die then u compare the strengh to the toughness if if ur strengh is double the u need a 2 or higher if ur strengh is equal u need a 4 or higher if ur strengh is lower u need a 5 or higher then u roll to see if they wound then if u dont have a power weapon the other person(i think) dose a save
pretty close. the numbers you give to wound is the numbers you have to roll to hit (ws vs ws). For wounding, if your strength is 1 point lower than your opponents toughness you need a 5. If it's 2 or 3 points lower, you need a 6. If it's 4+ points lower, you can not wound the opponent.
yes. the higher your strength is over the opponent's toughness, the easier it becomes to wound someone. if your strength is the same as their toughness, it's 4+. if you're 1 point higher, it's 3+, and the maximum you can get to is 2+ (eg strength 6 against toughness 4).
i want to know how you work out what you have to roll to work out what you have to roll for attack. 4 instance how do you work out what you have to roll if a space marine shot a guardsmen
For shooting you would use the shooting models BS score. You subtract the BS score from 7 the result is the number you need to roll equal to or above on a six sided dice (d6). For a Space Marine (BS 4) he would need to roll a 3 or better on a d6 to hit (7-4=3). Does not matter what the Space Marine shoots at he would need a 3+ to hit.
man i want to get into 40K so bad, I love the stories, the video games, the books... but this is so complicated and intimidating. I don't even know where to begin.
Hey great vid, but I had a question. During the being when the Black marines attacked, they took out one of the white marines. Yet that white marine was still able to attack back. Is that because of the same Initiative? What if the lighter Marines took out the guy with the powerfist, would he have been able to attack back?
say for example there were only 3 black marines, and one had a power first. the assault black marines rolled horribly and didn't hit. the white marines rolled magnificently and the black marines failed the save. does the power fist marine, who is at a different initiative, take the wound? Also, can a group that moved, then ran, still assault?
what confuses me, is you cant rapid fire then assault, but is that the type of gun, or the action? Like, a bolter is rapid fire, so you CANT assault? Or you cant rapid fire with a bolter then assault?
Rapid fire is the type of weapon. If you wish to assault, your squad cannot fire any rapid fire or heavy weapons (unless they have the relentless rule).
I have a question: Let's say squad A is in melee combat with squad B. Is it possible for another enemy squad (let's call them squad C) to join the ongoing assault?

@Adrian890722 It's the rule book that comes with the Assault on Black Reach set. As small as it is, it contains every 5th edition rule.

So just to clarify, pistols count as an ADDITIONAL assault weapon in close combat, and if so, does that still count if you fired them that same turn?

yes

and also can you shoot into a squad thats locked in combat

Just got a question...
Lets say i have a 4 tactical squad with 1 Sarge.. 4 tacs are armed with boltgun and sarge is power pistol and power sword..
assume i use rapidfire on my 4 Tacs to kill an enemy.. and my Sarge use a power pistol to shoot down an enemy..
So can i just send my Sarge alone to assault since his pistol is a assault 1?? while the rest stay in 2" near him??
redeye117 2 years ago
no, the sarge cannot assault if members of his squad have rapid fired.

i get it (i think) it the same as the shooting phase but with close combat and u roll 4 different things

no, combat always resolves with
1) Does the attacker hit?
2) Does the attacker wound?
3) Does the defender save?
Regardless of shooting or close combat.

so is an assault just basically the attack?
