um, just my guess: shes pretending to be someone else so she wont get hurt. she takes off the makeup in private b/c thats the only time she can be herself w/o being afraid of being hurt by someone else. like "letting down her guard" "wall around the heart" kind of thing. get it? thats just my guess, tho.
