Yes, but that started in the 1990's when congress approved increased regulation on loan approvals. They wanted EVERY American to have the opportunity to own their own home (sounds nice), but we had to pay a high price for it now. There are many aspects that led to this depression, but gov't forcing banks to approve loans, then those people default and it starts piling up. Once those agencies went under, gov't made the situation worse by bailing them out.

how do the protests help??? i think the fact that over 35.000 of us took to the streets peacefully, drank tea, ate cake on the pavement and raved outside the climate exchange, speaks volumes. there were NO riots at the g20. the police antagonised us by unlawfully blocking us in....people on the outside were then targeted..it was all for the 24 hour soap opera that we all the news, very convenient way of disracting from the rest of us haing a great time protesting peacefuly.

capitalism worked insofar as there were more capitalists back in the day that were making their millions off the backs of the hard working class. Companies don't need to be in dire straits to sack workers or reduce their wages,etc. Because capitalism is a profit-based system a company can be making millions and still lay off workers.Why pay two workers when you can pay one and double their workload? the only problem this is an issue right now is because only a select few decided to abuse the system. That coupled with a regulatory lapse had called for government intervention. You dont play by the rules, the refs going to blow the whistle simple as that. As a poster said here earlier gov't intervention in a capitalistic market is NOT socialism. Even Obama said earlier this month that he is a believer in the free market.

Maybe it's a difference of philosophy, but why are they blaming capitalism for their job insecurity, when it was increased government regulation and spending that got us into this mess in the first place. Does a CEO's salary (less than 1% of the population) really effect our trillion dollar economy? Capitalism thrives with less gov't influence and produces more private sector jobs. Americans are throwing tax day tea parties, while G20 protesters are fighting for wealth distribution?

Yes, but that started in the 1990's when congress approved increased regulation on loan approvals. They wanted EVERY American to have the opportunity to own their own home (sounds nice), but we had to pay a high price for it now. There are many aspects that led to this depression, but gov't forcing banks to approve loans, then those people default and it starts piling up. Once those agencies went under, gov't made the situation worse by bailing them out.

Capitalism isn't working...Socialism is very straightforward and, compared to capitalism, extremely simple. It means social (or collective) ownership and control of the main means of production (land, factories, businesses, banks, etc) and production for human need, not profit, and with this the abolition of class divisions.
