@cnycarnut No. The problem was Goodyear was the only tire maker that agreed to build the tires for the car. Then, of course, costs escalated. Ken Tyrrell axed the project and went back to four wheels. Still, that hasn't stopped the teams from trying: Williams and Ferrari both attempted their own 6-wheelers but they used four wheels in the rear. The maintenance costs are always a nightmare that the teams can't get around.
Despite the enormous expense of running a 6-wheeler (the tires are always custom built for that design) the test drivers were always blown away by how much grip the cars had. Williams did attempt a 6-wheeler project but the wheels were in the rear. I don't know if it was a 4wd.
@Ruupie1982 I read an article about a P34 used at the Goodwood festival. The lucky driver said he couldn't believe how much grip the car had and ranted and praised the design to the heavens because it could "corner like a freight train." I still sometimes wonder how badly the Ferrari F2001 would have smashed the competition if it had 6 wheels instead of 4. Hmm...
S!!!!! in 1964 13 year old Elisa Johnson was raped and murdered in North Carolina, her body was found with multiple stab wounds, and now that you've read this, every night she will come to your house and hang from your closet with glowing red eyes, the only way to stop this is to post this to 10 other videos.
The tall intake scoops were removed from F1 cars because of rules changes after the P34's first couple of races I think. It started out in 1976 with that scoop and by the end of the season the scoops were cut down. What you see here is the cleaned-up configuration from 1977.
I had a P34 toy, too, an RC version. My uncle was in high school and into electronics and so he took it apart to see how it worked. He put it back together and it never ran again LOL!
Hi. It is owned and driven by Mauro Pane, an italian driver. As you can see it almost hit my toes! I have tons of videos and pics from that event, in case you need them. Bye.

There were many six-wheelers with 4 wheels at the rear (Williams, Ferrari...) but they never raced officially, they were only used at tests.

Great car!
I think it has a lot of grip while cornering with 4 front wheels. :)

One of the baddest looking F1 cars ever! My dad bought me a P-34 model of Ronnie Peterson's car when I was a little boy. I wish I still had it.
