I was about 10 years old when I played these games. I beat Lufia, grabbed Lufia II off the shelf, and about a week later I was stuck. I never beat Lufia II. Makes me want to cry.
how is it lame it's almost like final fantasy everyone;s intitled to there own opinions anyway's take out the puzzles and you get final fantasy pretty much
as much as i find the mackenzy's comment unfair. the fact that he's been thumbed down is even worse. it sucks but he pretty much is right. strip down the unique elements of ANY rpg and you have FF or Dragon warrior. because the first in both of those series was nothing more than raise your levels and beat the big bad twat, as fun as that was. but i dont think he realises that's the whole point of all these games, ff and dragon warrior developed a concept that thousands of games spawned from.
@InfernalApocalypse ok so my referance was wrong I'll admit that but you get my point. Nothing's unique anymore because the first game that defines any genre is pretty much the base principle for every other game of that genre.
This was the first RPG I ever played, and like your first car or your first kiss, I will always remember this jewel. I still think its better than FF 4. lol
Although I've gone on and established my library of favourite SNES (and otherwise, but mainly SNES) RPGs; Fortress of Doom was my first and still one of my dearest - even if the people whom I go on about this to haven't the faintest idea why this game has my high regard.
I always liked this one better than the second, it probably makes me in the minority. Oh well! I felt a lot more attached to this game. I liked all the characters the towns, random battles were no problem. Just a great game.
AHHHH!!! Random battles, so many random battles... Just kidding, despite the random battle rate in Lufia 1 (quite possibly the highest in the history of RPG's) it's still a great game.
It was definitely a dungeon trudge but for some reason it was awesome. SO MANY F-ING CAVES!! especially when searching for alumina, but the cave music was good at least. LOVE the doom island theme and opening, so good, and the final boss music rocks so hard
I'm actually playing this now. I'm up to the North Tower when I have tosave Jerin. Oh, and I'm not old, I'm in my mid-teens. See? Young people like the old games too. Also, FLAMIN' MAX!!!
I remember working my way through nearly this entire game and then getting fed up. Nearly all of the dungeons/towers were just palette swaps and I was bored to tears by the end. The prequel was infinitely better, in my opinion.
whoa speak for yourself i played this game when it came out and i'm only 23...when i have kids and they ask me about my childhood i'll tell them tales of the super nintendo when they ask what that is i'll laugh and say "the super nintendo could have been anything...it chose to be a god"
@mistersleeepy Yeah, I now remember what happened to my childhood/early teens. Despite its cartoony appearance, this was a TOUGH game- harder than many Final Fantasy games, I thought.
I hated this game actually. The 2nd one was better.

Most people don't know this, but Lufia is actually, Lufia II.
What I mean is, Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals is actually a prequel to the original.
nintygaming 1 year ago
The music in Lufia is incredible, but it really is a long-winded grinder. The second game is VASTLY superior.

Fantastic music. I've only played Lufia 2, but I friggin' LOVED that game. I'll definitely get to playing the original one of these days.
