  • Oh, so lovely! I've heard this song by many others, but this one is the most beautiful rendition I've ever heard. Thank you so much.

  • What an appropriate song ..........that will see me through on this dark night....the Martin seems to be playing you......as is sometimes the case.....sometimes the role of instrument and singer seem reversed..........

  • oh yes.. that has happened many times.. i remember watching David Wilcox run a song writing session at Auckland Folk Festival some years ago.. he said that some mornings he would sit down with his guitar and ask.. " now guitar, what have you got for me today"..? that says so much...

  • I'm so glad I discovered your wonderful music. This is such a comforting song. I feel so peaceful inside as I listen to it. Thanks for the post and thanks, Bill, for sharing your music with us.

  • I heard this song for the first time about a week ago and it's been haunting my waking hours since then (my son asked if John sings it to me when I'm asleep since I hum it all of the time these days...). Love the melody and this version is one of the best ones I've seen good. Thank you for posting it. Now I have another song to learn - hope it's a quarter as good as this is.

  • Beautiful rendition. I first heard this song accompanied by a hammered dulcimer, and have unfortunately lost my recording, this comes very close to that recording, which brings back a very happy time of my life, thank you.

  • Awesome rendition. Thank you very much for taking the time to record this. I think the way your guitar spoke really pulled off the piece, and truly told how the song is meant to be heard.

  • When Midnight comes and people homeward tread Seek now your blanket and your feather bed Home comes the rover, his journey's over Yield up the night time to old John O'Dreams Yield up the night time to old John O'Dreams Across the hill the sun has gone astray Tomorrow's cares are many dreams away The stars are flying your candle's dying Yield up the darkness to old John O'Dreams Yield up the darkness to old John O'Dreams Both man and master in the night are one
