Exomphalos literally translated from the Greek means 'outside the navel'. It is also called an omphalocele. It is a congenital abnormality in which the contents of the abdomen herniate into the umbilical cord through the umbilical ring. The viscera, which often includes the liver, is covered by a thin membrane consisting of peritoneum and amnion.
This video is not very good. For one it doesn't tell you a thing about beckwith-wideman's cause, prognosis, way to diagnosis, treatment, and other vital information. Instead it is an advertisement for Ask Rainbow, which seems to be a advertisement for the University Hospital. As far as I can tell there is no change in the disease course or cost of treatment as a result of this in addition to not really telling you much about the disease.
@ambbc08 Thank you for the comment. Instead of covering specifics on Beckwith-Widemann Syndrome, the video is meant to show that parents can reach out to the experts at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital with any type of medical question. To learn more about this specific disease, we encourage you to visit our website or consult with your primary care physician. To be connected with a doctor at UH, you can use the Ask Rainbow service or call 1-866-UH4-CARE.
My brother was born with this syndrome and now he is 13 years old.
