  • Geologist looks like Jesus wearing a hoodie.

  • @angelrivera716 He's better than jesus.

  • @angelrivera716 cyborg jesus

  • Panda Bear is the best!

  • THEY'RE PROLLY THINKIN, WTF! haha redundant but Animal Collective are great group of friends doing what no else is doing.... I WANT TO GET SO STONED AND TAKE A WALK OUT IN THE LIGHT DRIZZLE :-) at the end of the day.

  • jesus ... i like this song but . . .

  • 20 seconds in *guy on speed*

  • calm down avey!

  • That other dudes kinda killing my vibe the oh wah oh man

  • Holy shit is avey explosive. He's probably why people thought AnCo shows were scary.

  • What the fuck is up with this video? The music sounds great but that is some shitty editing.

  • why cant it be properly synced :(

  • Soul

  • i'd bet their parents are proud.

  • i enjoy animal collective no mather what state i'm in, except maybe when i'm seasick

  • I genuinely think you'd have to be high to be fully enjoy this, no offence to AnCo though, the song's amazing, they're just tripping their minds out here though

  • @harrytheblurfan

I'm not high and i truly and genuinely enjoyed this.

  • The coolest thing happened in this, an advertisement for resolve started playing but only in the background so it sounded like an intentional effect.

  • i could seriously just watch this all day.

  • oh my god i can't even. they are so good i can't even handle this

  • @pocketmouse11 I know what you mean man

  • seriously i love animal collective, but sometimes they just arn't that great live.. in my opinion this performance doesn't deliver at all, it is very lackluster

  • @oNxTxCo Please say your kidding. I would have gone blind if I been at this and tried to even look at them. The amount of talent in that performance borders the insane.

  • i'm not on drugs but wtf just happened to me?

  • haha everyone musta been trippin balls at that show

  • damn, the chick @ 1:39

  • haha fukin crazy

  • hey what happened the live malta version of Cuckoo? The same version is on youtube but it's badly out of sync. I'd love to see it again.

  • You do not NEED to be on drugs to appreciate this band... but it helps.

  • Glad to see Geologist is always into his music :)

  • i think that is so fuckin amazing that they thought of that, avey doing the cymbol slamming while panda still keeps the drum beat going

  • ohh yea i remember them in their mask days aha but it thought they wore those animal masks cuz i thought it was just from their weird style

  • Wow! Animal Collective has truly re-defined the meaning of music for me...... 5stars! : )

  • I don't hate him, but I've seen them live three times and there has been times where he starts going into his tirades and I've thought "Damn, dude, stop trying to be the center of attention" I enjoy Noah's contributions more.

  • why?

  • All of his contribution to AC are annoying as hell.

  • your contributions are annoying as hell

  • can i ask you to give me more details?

  • Did you watch this video at all?

  • nope///it got pretty autistic

  • fukin genius!

  • could hardley hear panda lol. avey needs to take a chill pill

  • these guys are trippin' mad ballz yo.

  • But, you're exactly the same as everyone else then. Considering people mark down comments, because in their opinion, it was a bad comment. You are just as intolerant. :D

  • no, you are intolerant

  • can someone post a link to where the lyric "It's not going to happen" occurs? I have the liner notes from the album but don't ever hear panda or avey say those words? Just some extra stuff they wrote on the insert to have fun?

  • I don't know if that's a lyric but, dude if you're a fan of this band you've gotta know that the word experimental implies x ammount of things for them, including the fact that they change lyrics as the song progresses. This was recorded over a year before SJ was actually released, they were just working with it to, yes have fun, and also to get the best, in their minds, quality out of it.

  • aesrp, my question was, when do they sing "it's not going to happen" in *any* version of this song. i have many live versions of most of their songs from the sj live era. i'm trying to satisfy some personal curiosity, but thanks for reminding me that AC is "experimental". =P

  • alright, well I have no idea, if you have the album...you should look the lyrics up.

  • you read my mind. I've tried so many times to try to figure that out. In my mind i try to imagine him singing it in the end but i can't decipher it

  • jay-z? good comparison

  • you're right summertime clothes is better than jay-z

  • shit man they are great live not to be a dick just be open minded

  • great band, but really a little bit dissapointing live, i mean, come on

  • Comment removed

  • You just don't...understand.

  • this music is probably a lot funner to play than it is to listen to.

  • @paperchasin23

dude use yo MIND to play along. vibe along.

  • which is why i told you before to listen to the album version of this song. It does not sound like this. at all. it's on youtube. hear it. so thank you that's all i'll be saying

  • Who cares guys- drugs or no drugs, some musicians make music you enjoy, others don't.

If you like it- cool, congratulate them.

    If you don't, go away.

  • Does Deakin do the "Whoooo-oooh"?

  • I beleive it's Avey.

  • God, Avey is fucking crazy.

    I love it.

  • WOAH text text text, im not even going to bother reading all that

  • Hm. To say you dig Wesley Willis's music...which is essentially him talking and then shouting the name of the song four to five times...and then to say that this is not musical...that's just beyond me.

  • It shouldn't be beyond you. I've been listening to Sun Ra and Brian Eno lately. Their music is music that is beyond me. Eno wasn't even a trained musician. But they created something that I could not. These Aminal Collective con artists create something that you or I could create. Well, maybe that's the point. Music that any drug addled fool can produce? New Country artists have just as much talent as these "FUGS" scrubs have. Check out the Fugs or the Holy Modal Rounders.

  • What are you even judging them on? I really don't think you've given them half a thought... every single wesley willis song is the same. That's what I was talking about... I'd really like to see you recreate any songs off of the last four Animal Collective albums...their use of samples is amazing...they can take two seconds of a song and make it into something brand new... look at the Notwist's Boneless and then panda bear's remix. They know exactly what they're doing.

  • i'm not going to enter to the old discussion about drugs because the conservadurism and the church have been washing brains for so long that any thing that i say now won't make any difference. But to say, this music is something that any could create, what, you are a music critic or something? or maybe you are a hidden musical genious. C'mon show me your stuff, mozart. And you think that eno doesn't know the delicious world of psychedelic drugs? Snob and naif. bad combination

  • come on. you say you listen to free form musicians but i'm not certain you have any idea what that means. this music (this song) is absolutely not free form. it's composed. it's obvious you know very little beyond this and a few other recordings. that's all there is to it.

  • Jeez. People sure are passionate about this band. Any criticism that I've expressed has come back at me tenfold, which, I am impressed by. Maybe I am worng about this song, but these guys give of the impression of free form musical acrobatics, which like all forms of creativity, I can only handle in small doses. In the midst of introspection I try to figure out why this group has such a following much like Phish....a band that befuddles me in their adoration. Is it drugs or Conformity?

  • too true

  • i guess to some, maybe this music is a bit difficult to understand, and theirs nothing wrong with that, and maybe it is just this recording but this group is in no way just freeform noise. There are truly amazing melodies in a lot of their music if you listen with an open mind. And no, i don't do drugs (to the person that will just say something about that)

Person below me,that's awesome to hear, i play in an orchestra and it's really sweet hearing that people in this group do things like that too

  • you cant rly call it hype when this band have been making music together for abuot ten years and are only just getting noticed now, by music completely different to that which they produced in the past. They are not "just freeform noise." Most of their songs, particularly the later material-but admittedly rarely in their earlier stuff-have conventional song structure and prominent and powerful melody. Also, they are not non musicians, panda bear plays cello and piano and sang in a chamber choir.

  • this is a shitty live performance if you listen to the record its really consonant and melodic, the bass is almost inaudible and they are singing shittily. please dont speak to people aboput music like you are their older sibling or something you dont know the first thing

  • lack of melody?! are you completely deaf lol?

  • i want to get so stoned

  • are you serious? You're really missing something.

  • im sorry...

  • listen to the album version. the melody is pretty muffled on this recording. for me still awesome but i'm just saying

  • then, please, speak for yourself. i'm in love with this band. who gives a fuck whether i will be in a few years. check them out if you haven't you might be pleasantly surprised. that's all i'm saying

  • No offense. They are unique. The lack of melody is what turns me off. You dig them for what they are. I just wish that they could broaden there sound a bit. They intrigue me but they seem to be fucking with people. Maybe that's the joke.

  • please dont talk about animal collective like u are at all familiar with them. for u to define they're entire musical output by the lack of a prominent melody in this song shows your ignorance of the various musical phases this band has been through.

  • Take it easy young hipster. This is just free form noise done by non musicians. It's americanized Sigus Ros. I've listened to all the albums and let them melt into me and I feel.......very little. It's all subjective. I just have contempt towards all of the hype that these guys have recieved.

  • free form noise... thats funny. many of their songs have such complex structure that it probably sounds like noise if you dont make an attempt at listening

  • Please listen to John Coltrane's Stellar Regions. Also, anything by the Brit group Ozric Tentacles. I've absorbed and listened to both of their music. Regarding AC's music, there seems to be no humour, charm, nor love. It just seems to be tension to me.

  • i think you are assuming that bc AC have gained popularity that people listen to their music to fit into a group such as 'hipsters' but if you really gave it a chance without any preconceived notions you might find you like some of the songs or at least respect the originality and depth of their music.

  • Panda Bear is a fucking god

  • every performance is unique, but nevertheless a wonderful experience from AC a l w a y s.

  • This song has so much more punch than whats coming across here. Its an interesting live version, but Id much rather they played it with the loudness and intensity of the album version.

  • At the end of the day....

    when no one's watching....

  • congratulations. today this video was selected by the NYC Punk Rock Evolution Foundation. love it.

  • This is one of the reasons I want to see them live- it's so much more improvised and free from the CD version.

At first, I was wondering if this was supposed to be "Chores" at all; then it freaking plunged me into this faint, acid-dripping version of the song. That's freaking innovative, and truly experimental for a band to do; goes more along the lines of sound artistry.

  • They said in an interview somewhere that they don't improvise, like many people think.

    Everything is planned.

    Strange huh?

  • I'm not surprised, XD

Their music always feels improvised and savage, yet meticulously calculated. I guess that explains it!

  • who the fuck is this 4th nigga?

  • if by "4th nigga" you mean missing member of Animal collective, you'd be reffering to Deakin. He's currently on break from the band

  • lol

  • The whipping action, like they're making Avey a slave or something amuses me to no end.

  • I meant Panda Bear, by the way.

He's their slave til the Chores are done.

  • It is quite funny that people make reference to drugs just because they do not understand their art. You don't need to do drugs for beeing creative guys... the pure inspiration is intoxicating enough.

Btw... sorry for my english :P

  • now that I listen to this....what the FUCK

  • incredible!

  • olala

  • It's so weird but... Here I am listening to it again... Must be one of those addictive natural highs ;)

  • just keep coming back to it and eventually it all makes sense

and then go see a show and then it makes more than sense :)

  • Wow. This live version is so much more dreamily, you can easily get lost in it if you give it a chance.

  • You can't deny that every member of animal collective is a druggie.

This song is about the pleasure of getting high after a hard days work.

  • Has anyone ever denied that every member of animal collective does drugs? haha

  • they said that they do use drugs. But they dont do drugs for their music. They dont use it to influence their record, they do have a drug-trippy thing though.

  • then it obviously influences their records

  • more like shes on some molly

  • absolutely amazing band... just dunno whadda say... i'm too impressed :)

  • god i love you animal collective, fucking love you to death

  • I don't do drugs...

  • "Drugs" "Pink Floyd" "Jimi Hendrix"

    Damn druggie scenester.

  • Pink Floyd, Prince, and Jimi Hendrix suck.

And yes, they were on the radio.

  • nah they're just too old

  • No, I actually don't like them.

  • then why were you watching this video?

  • Because I love AC.

I meant I hate Pink Floyd, Prince, and Jimi Hendrix.

  • without Pink Floyd, there would be no AC.

Oh, and don't put Prince in the same sentence with Hendrix or Floyd.

  • you think Hendrix sucks? that is sad.

have you ever heard New Rising Sun? Valleys of Neptune? Woodstock Improv? Voodoo Child?

listen to his obscure or live stuff, its quite incredible.

the rabbit hole runs much deeper than Purple Haze and Foxy Lady, you know.

  • My guitar teacher played a live DVD of him once in my guitar class.

Here's what his song writing process sounded like:

Smoke weed, create an unoriginal and boring beat, be awesome at guitar, continue for seven minutes, repeat.

  • you're thinking of someone else, not a single Hendrix song promotes smoking pot.

you got the be awesome at guitar part right, but the lack of creativity? no

most say creativity is what makes him one of the if not the best.

listen to Woodstock Improv. he goes through like 5 genres and tempos in a 6 minute improv

he created funk, fused blues/jazz, bolero, even purple haze was done in a moroccan time signature

you play shoot the messenger when(if) you listen to Hendrix because of 60s hate

  • I pictured him smoking pot while writing music because I was also WATCHING him play the guitar. I mean look at him.

I suppose I don't think he was very creative because I've heard just about everything that you can do with a guitar, and these are comments to an AC video, which is a band all about doing new things.

But I'll give hendrix another shot, even though I'm not really that into guitar improv.

  • trust me, if you haven't heard Hendrix you haven't truly heard everything you can do with a guitar. there are many things that only he does, or does like nobody else

    great wah wah use

controls the biggest amount of feedback of any guitarist, by far. the only guy who controlled it rhythmically.

used his thumb to fret chords, which allowed him to player rhythm/lead, and bass with his thumb all at the same time, while singing

    and then the sheer beauty

listen to "new rising sun live at maui"

  • tons of people can control feedback. hendrix was nothing.

  • dude even I could control feedback.

Hendrix on the other hand is the only one to actually control the Feedback to make music, composed of nothing but it.

listen to him play Are you experienced live.

there are many things that nobodys done since him

Satriani, all the greats call him the best ever, and un mimickabele

  • I live and breathe feedback. Hendrix was nothing.

  • if he really was "nothing", he's definitely something by convincing many folks he is the most versatile guitarist ever, contrary to your ill informed opinion of being nothing.

  • if he really was "something", maybe he should have been able to convince me, an expert on the matter.

  • you're NO expert if you think Jimi was nothing rofl

you're IGNORANT and/or untrained ear. Jimi's master of phrasing, improv, etc. he took rock, funk, jazz, blues, etc., & combined em all.

you haven't listened to real Jimi.

anything from 69 (Band of Gypsys, Albert Hall) or 70 (anything) will prove it. he's reserved on studio songs, but live, he shines brightest.

his technique itself is unorthodox. he had a very long thumb, & used it to fret chords and bassnotes (on top of rhythm, lead, vocals)

  • so just because he had some deformity doesn't mean he was any good at guitar.

  • of course not.

hundreds of other facts show that he was good at guitar.

  • wrong.

  • @manstis1804 Thank you, and as someone who loves Animal Collective (as well as all the artists you mentioned--Bitches Brew and Ascension are among the best albums I've ever heard), I apologize for all the idiots running around here acting like it's the coolest thing in the world who shoots down everyone for now following what they like, labelling them off as a mindless conformist... fucking awful, really, just as bad as any of Miley Cyrus' rabid army

  • how about this, go fuck urself and after pop in the new weezer album

  • hey! blue album was good. ;(

  • i think when people totally feeling the music they just lose themselves totally and they are the music ...you forget yourself and bam you just hear the music...YOU ARE THE MUSIC!

  • that looks more like a marmot than a squirrel

  • Word.

I was at a show, just a local folk rock show in a record store, and there was this girl dancing her ass off to no particular beat or anything. She looked like such a fool.

  • i think ego is when you're actually nervous and scared of what people will think so you hold back and not dance to not make yourself stand out and look stupid in other peoples eyes but if she was really into it the music she wouldn't have cared anyway to try to show off or to not make a scene and just going about what she was feeling...i think thats alright.....i'm alright........ i know i'm alrighttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • They are sexy.

  • well outta time

  • wtf do u do with a band like this besides worship at their altar?

  • I actually met someone who didn't like them. But he didn't offer a coherent argument as to why. We were both drunk but I was still shocked.

  • MMMMM panda bear. :D

    fuck i love this band!

  • confusing stuff, why don't they call it the Polish Festival then?

Anyway, agree w/ Taobeth. It's just impossible to find a live video where you can hear Panda Bear, unless you are watching one of his performances.

Isn't it the coolest when you see Deakin's light move like a blur, though?

  • geologist wears the light, not deakin

  • The Malta Festival isn't in Malta. It's actually in Poland.

  • not enough panda bear

  • my favourite part is the end where avey does these weird DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE sound effects then its gobbled up like pacman sound effects take it...so freakin cool

  • I wish you could hear Panda Bear sing the lead part.

  • Love it!. Go Animal Collectiveª

  • That chick looks alot like Catherine Bell. eh?

  • This is so wierd.

    they redid this song.

but its so wierd on the album
