  • For all the squabble about which Mimi is better, it's Jesse who breaks my heart in this scene. If you ever get a chance to see this entire song, you'll notice his voice cracking from all the emotion in this scene.

  • @SingularDoubleCover They cut the song--they put part of it at the beginning before Tune Up #1, up until "Christmas Eve last year". So it made no sense to repeat that bit.

  • The final cast were so much more convincing..

  • a) where's the rest!?

    b) both Fredi Walker and Tracie Thoms are amazing, and add something new to the character. Same goes for Rosario and a Daphne. Think about it this way: If they managed to get cast, they must be decent.

  • Do you have the rest of this song?

  • please put the rest up aswell! :)

  • the raw power and emotion in this song always astounds me!

  • 1. I really wish everyone would stop arguing over which Mimi is the best, everyone is entitled to their opinion, just because someone likes Rosario doesn't mean they're an idiot. I happen to like Rosario's Mimi EVEN THOUGH HER VOICE IS AUTO-TUNED & Daphne is Still Amazing as Mimi.

    2. This is Blasphemy! Where is the Rest of Goodbye Love? I Love That Songgg.

  • daphne just doesnt put enoff emotion into it like the rest she is still a great singer tho just her acting needs alittle work

  • D'= Where is the rest of Goodbye Love??

  • Umm, for those who say Rosario is better are you aware that she is auto-tuned? Rosario is a wonderful Mimi, but her singing got smothered by autotune (not her fault though). Daphne is the true character, she's rapsy, rocking, and she's capable of performing the same character (balancing on the bars) every night. If there's anymore beside Daphne for Mimi, there's Rene. The point is, she works hard, and you have to appreciate that.

  • I feel bamboolzed! where's the rest of Goodbye Love!?

  • I think its probably true that Rosario sings mimi better than Daphne. I think most mimi's sound prettier than Daphne, but Daphne is the only mimi I've heard that sounded like she was an addict doing just about anything for a fix. Character comes first.

  • I don't care how WEIRD Daphne's voice may sound or how AWKARD Fredi might seem but OBC is OBC AND NO PERSON, NO MOVIE, CAN REPLACE THAT. More and more I wish that I could have seem them live in persom.

  • instead of arguing over who was better why not be happy at the fact the original mimi was amazing and the movie mimi was amazing. rosario did the role proud and i was really happier with not only her voice on the soundtrack but her acting and daphne is the original who jonathon larson picked himself. i love rent and i LOVE the movie and the obc! and this performance...well that goes without saying :)

  • You guys talking about Mimi's are so stupid. Did you NOT see that emotion the Jesse put out there? Sure it wasn't for that long but he put more emotion out there then anyone else.

  • rosario just IS mimi. her voice is so full of emotion that daphne's lacks. she makes you believe she is mimi. also, just the emotion and anger and passion she shows goes far deeper than daphnes.

  • @txtexasgurl That is the most stupid thing I have ever read.1) This is a reunion to them. Ten years ago that day they performed for the first time. 2) Rosario had takes. AS IN MORE THAN ONE TRY. Daphne had to go out there every night for two years just like she did that night and pull that emotion out. Do you have any idea what that can do to a person? Rosario probably had minutes/hours to pull that emotion out, while Daphne only had seconds. Rosario was in my opinion the 3rd best Mimi.

  • Geeze, defensive much? I was stating my opinion not only on this performance but also Daphne's interview on the Jonathan Larson tribute section of the RENT DVD. She seemed just not nearly as friendly or down to earth as the other cast. Now does that make her a bad actress, no. It's just my opinion. I also think Julie Andrews played a fantastic Eliza Doolittle, but to me, Audrey Hepburn IS Eliza. It's just a matter of opinion.

I wasn't rude, and you shouldn't be either.

  • @txtexasgurl..i agree but u have to realize that jonathan wouldnt just put anyone in his production.. what jonathan saw in daphne was mimi..so u should look at it from his point of view..:-)

  • i just dont feel any kind of emotion when i hear daphne sing this, i much prefer rosario simply because she is more believable.

  • You should listen to the OBC recording then. This was a simple run through, no costumes, etc. It has been ten years, remember. Daphne was AMAZING back in the day

  • I have listened to the OBC recording and I'm not saying Daphne isn't good I just personally prefer Rosario because she is more believable for me, I mean everyone is entitled their own opinions.

  • Oh, alright. ^^ I thought you meant in this particular show.

  • For good bye love it was so emotionless O.o i didnt really get as much anger as i was hoping for

  • Just because Daphne was the original does NOT mean that she's the best. Personally, though she was good at some times, I just can't believe her when she's playing Mimi, which is ironic. I think Renee was the best. She had so much more energy and I just fell in love with her performance.

  • @Anya017 same x10!

  • Hello!!! Where is the rest of Halloween? That's messed up dude.

  • I think Anthony sung it that way because he sang the first part of Halloween at the opening of this performance as a sort of retrospect.

  • You know, I love Mimi's voice in both the movie and the original, but a lot of people say that Daphne is better because her voice sounds immature and Rosario's is too full, and I don't like that opinion.

i mean, yes, Mimi is the youngest of the group, but just because she's 19 doesn't mean that she should sound like a 13 year old. I'm 15 and have a full sounding voice, like Rosario's.

But both of them are fantastic, so don't get me wrong

  • I think my problem with Rosario is that she sounds too sweet for a someone who's as much of a junkie as Mimi.

  • I agree. I think the roughness of Daphne's voice fits Mimi's personality perfectly

  • Why Was Halloween Shortened Quite Dramatically?

  • He sang that part in the beginning of the show. I think thats why it was cut

  • I liked it when Daphne sang that line lower. But I think she did it because she was crying.

  • what line?

  • It's true you sold your guitar, and bought- a car?

  • yeah, it's good, but i think she sung it low because she damaged her voice so much through smoking (ahhhh stupid woman) that it was hard for her to sing high

  • Is it me or is Mimi not even singing at all? Like she's singing either one octave down or just saying all her lyrics.

  • Who was playing Maureen in this?

  • Idina Menzel methinks ;) xox

  • these are the originals

the obc rent 10 year anniversary.

  • idina menze she played maureen in the movie and she paled nancy in enched

  • is it just me or did it soung like anthony skipped a line? Or is it just that i wanna him more

  • he did

  • haha! i knew it but i do f-ing love him!

  • i think it was on purpose though... cause the music had also switched

  • i think this was more a concert than a full show.

  • it deff was more of a concert. In "I'll cover you" it was hilarious, Collins says "OH SHIT!, i forgot how fast you were!"

  • he did skip it, but only because in this version of the musical, he said the line he skipped at the begining, in place of the begining of Tune Up 1.

  • Comment removed

  • Have you seen the DVD release from the final broadway performance? Tracie was in the final cast, and she was phenomenal :)

  • When Tracie sings live, it sounds amazing. I like Fredi Walker's soulful voice more, but I still love Tracie Thom's performance.

  • i seen them when they toured in az it was epic i even got a signed playbill i loved the show

  • Much as I loove the original casting...The woman who played Joanne CANNOT sing anywhere near as well as Tracie Thoms.

  • @xTheSeenViolinistX Totally agree. That's why I think Renee Goldsberry is best Mimi. Rosario is second best. Daphne is third.

  • @rogerbartbiggestfan1 Agreed 100%

  • why did mimi knock on rogers door

or collins choose that phone booth back where ANGEL(<3) set up his drums

why did maureens equpiment break down

    why am i the witness

and when i capture it on film

wwll does this mean thats its the end

    and im alone

  • ur so lucky u got to see it when it was still on broadway! i love rent and i never got to see it and im fucking pissed!

  • Well....it is on tour. If its coming to you, you can always see it there.

  • you guys are so lucky!! I'm from Mexico City!!!

  • he skipped it because (I think) he sang the other part of it at the beginning of the concert.

  • What happened to the rest of it?

  • I have the full DVD of this up for trades/sales. Pm me if interested for more information!

  • Is it me or did Anthony skip a huge chunk in the middle of Halloween?

  • ye he skipped like most of the song

  • yeah... what's with that?

  • he sang that part at the very beginning of the play :)

  • I love Fredi and Daphne, but, I do like Tracie and Rosario better, their easier to understand and their voices are much more pure.. and they give better performances.. Fredi and Daphne are great, they are wonderful performers... I just like Tracie and Rosario better though.. thanks for posting!!!!

  • I agree with you, I think Rosario is much better as Mimi

  • Daphne is Mimi. I used to think the same as you, but then I both the OBC recording and Daphne's voice grew on me. Rosario's voice can't compare.

  • Daphne's voice is more advanced than Rosario's...Rosario has the acting of Mimi and Daphne has the voice...I was just stating my opinion at the time..but I do agree with you now...i have the OBC and Daphne is strong..

  • I love Daphne as Mimi before she startred smoking and her voice got warped...I love the way ROsario plays Mimi as so sweet and innocent, though it's really not fitting with the NY tough girl scene that Mimi has.

I love them both, and obviously Daphne's the stronger singer, not necessarily the better one anymore.

  • @MzCharmedFan0214 Same thing for me. I prefer Tracie better. But I prefer Renee Goldsberry as best Mimi. Rosario as second best. Daphne third best.

  • where's the rest???

  • I like both people, but I like the one who plays in the movie a bit better...more real sounding

  • although Daphne isn't one of my favorties, she still sings wonderful.

but i saw the movie before the play, so im used to Rosario, who is still absoutly amazing

  • I love this song. Here's my take on the Mimi argument. When I want to just hear the singing I listen to Rosario. When I want to see a true potrayl of what Mimi would sound like (all drugged up) I listen to Daphne.

  • Look I have seen many different renditions of mimi. I have seen rent on stage somewhere around 24 times. And think about the fact that this is ten years later people god.

  • I saw Rent in 2000 in Long Beach, CA I still get chills just watching these videos. I wish I could have seen the original cast on Broadway.

  • I saw Rent back in 1996 when it first arrived on Broadway. It still makes me smile 11 years later. As for Daphne's voice...it's fine, but not my cup of tea. The best Mimi's I have ever seen are Karmine Alers and Tamyra Grey

  • Her take on Mimi is the original Mimi, so it's the closest thing...

  • nah you're just saying that cos you're used to rosario dawson. daphne is great she just has her own take on mimi's character (she was the OG mimi BTW!!)

  • I totally agree its not fair :( wah!!!

  • I love Halloween and the Goodbye Love... It sucks Chris cut Halloween and the second half of Goodbye Love from the movie... So, where's the rest of Goodbye Love anyways? *sobs silently in the corner*

  • i love this song! RENT changed my life! THANK YOU JONATHON LARSON!!!!!

  • me too thank you JONATHON LARSON RIP

  • goodbye love is my favorite song in the whole play. my favorite bit is mark roger confrontation... where is it? *sob*

  • thank you so much for posting this! umm, but it cut off most of goodbye love.

  • Is the rest coming soon? I love this part, so much emotion on Anthony (in Halloween) and everyone else (In Goodbye love)...RENT is one of the best things around!
