Atheism just comes with a huge amount of strong connotations. It can sound anarchist to some, pretentious to others. Personally, I think it sounds like people are just trying to hard to be edgy or educated, it sounds pretentious, but having atheist friends, I know it's just a reflection of beliefs (or absence thereof) so I try not to jump to these conclusions
one of my (i consider probably my best friend) friends gave me a snearing laugh when he asked why i didnt believe in god and i said that there was no evidence and no reason. being one of the few semi-rational and honest people who actually cares that my beliefs be true is frustrating to look around and see so much misinformation, fear, lies etc directly because of belief in imaginary deities
Don't worry about what people think. I've been an athiest all my life and, if I based my feelings what people said or thought about me then I would be a mess - physically, mentally, spiritually, economically, whatever. Having said that, don't give a damn what the "believers" say, for two reasons: who made them the "control" group, the standard to be judged by? Second, they tend to believe in what they believe in despite no evidence - just faith. Doubt is one of the things that makes us human.
God wants you to believe in something that cant be verified because then it requires faith,if you had 100% evidence what would be the point? God wants you to choice right from wrong because its what you truly believe and not just becuase you know if you do something bad you're going to hell.
@TheGameBWS09 But "belief" has nothing to do with right and wrong. Why is believing in something with no evidence a good thing? It's a biased towards ignorance. This God doesn't care if you're a good person or what you do. All he cares about is what you believe. That's absurd. This, "no evidence" equals no free will is also faulty. Did Satan have the ability to choose to obey God? Why punish him otherwise? He knew 100% who God was and that he exists, so did Adam and Eve.
@bigoxtailbone2 Exactly how do you "say you're an atheist" like it's a religion? I say I'm an atheist all the time. Does saying I'm lactose intolerant sound like a religion too?
@bigoxtailbone2 because the are scared and amazed by the amount of people who whole heartidly believe in something that has no evidence and a book that is so inaccurate. If everyone around you told you that they have a invisible friend who speaks to them personally whenever they asked him a question and go knocking on doors to tell strangers all about him and need to meet once a week to sing to him you would hope these people where locked up or examined. That is why Atheists push back
im sorry but the uploaded comment you said up above " i still look up and wonder and ill wait till he answers" wouldnt you just condtredict what you just said in the video? wouldnt that mean your theist but you still dont believe in christianity? because atheist is were you dont believe that their is a god,
@SkelpYourHead Atheism is not a claim there are no gods. It just means you don't believe in gods. Belief is an active process. Since I don't believe in any of the gods I've been told about, I'm atheist -- that does not mean I am asserting there are no god anywhere or cannot be any gods anywhere. That's just silly projection of a falsely assumed position. There is a difference between not believing in gods and believing there are no gods. Atheism isn't a belief, it's an absence of a belief
@Rebekah7713 I'll keep my eyes open. Just because I don't believe in any Gods doesn't mean I don't look up in wonder. If there's a God out there, I'll keep listening until he finally says something.
@Rebekah7713 I just checked out some of your videos. I'm curious, what brought you to my monologue? You're not the average viewer I get over here. It's mostly trolls and or insulting comments, or even worse... hippies - and not the lovable stoner hippies, the really far out Star Trek kind of hippies. So I'm happy to get someone with a purpose in voice and a passion for something. My "purpose" is truth, whatever that means. Truth is important to me. Thanks for your comments, too. Drop by anytime
@anzwertree thank you thank you!!!! Thank you for subscribing!!! I had to go back to one of my videos and yours was in the margin. So I checked it out. i'm glad you liked my videos i'm going to have another one coming up soon...
Specially when u all talk with that atitude of "outsiders" lool like rebels thinking outside the box! yeah! common look around they all atheists is all thumbs up for u ppl, so stop that posing is outdated and ridiculous.
So basically...u want to be free to call believers retards irrational crazy...and wareva u ppl love to say, and u dont want ppl to be angry? u want to say "hey what u believe is ridiculous" and be respected? about the rest of ur speech nothing to comment would take me decades...but is very easy to atack ppl beliefs thats why ppl get angry, is very easy to contradict or go against something so hard to understand as god & also easy not to believe. thats why i find that very irritating.
@esmifrado Well, I wouldn't put it exactly like that. Just because I don't believe in gods doesn't mean I think other people that do are stupid. The word I'd use is delusional. Until someone can show me why it isn't irrational then I suppose it is, and I can give numerous reason why I believe it is irrational -- especially if you're talking about the Christian God. I'd rather worship a toilet seat than that psycho
I guess I feel somewhat lucky for being brought up in england, not that I have even the smallest shred of nationalistic pride but simply because I've never had any real speedbumps in my lack of belief in an almighty power.
American atheists seem to get a lot more flak from their peers than non-believers over here. Keep on Truckin fellas.
I hope you put your seatbelt on before you drove! Also awesome rant! It's interesting to hear you say that you can't see how the marvels of nature could be designed by a god, i've heard this argument used inversely by creationists; i'm stoked to hear this flipped. Keep fighting the good fight boyo :)
After watching your video, I completely understand where you are coming from. I myself am a strong christian, however, I'm not gonna say your wrong or put you down in any sort of way. Questioning is only natural, we all do it. There are many people who say they are christian, but don't "live it". For example, a few Catholic priests can hold up signs saying "gays will burn in hell" However they themselves aren't following what jesus tells them to do. read the book 90 min in heaven. ;)
@ALOESun Who says there's only one universe? There may very well be an infinite number of universes. Thought is precisely what is needed in an irrational world. Over-thinking is much safer than under-thinking. Finding the real answers to life is perhaps the most noble way to use what little time we have to live. I'm not happy just taking up space, living just to get by.
I find it to be one of the most pronounced prejudices in the USA. Atheists and agnostics truly are almost universely used as examples of evil in this country. I believe it's going to be a long long time before people accept these groups. Good video man.
@halfie25 This is a common misconception. Most atheist don't usually proclaim -- in a positive -- that "there isn't a God." Atheism is simply a lack of belief in a God. We see no evidence for any of them. Even Dawkins says this, "God probably doesn't exist." We're generally not dogmatic, the logic is simple. I don't believe in any of the Gods I've been shown. But I'm not saying no God can exist, has existed, or ever will exist. I just think our concept of whatever it is, is very unlikely.
@halfie25 Atheism is a minority. We don't always agree amongst ourselves on various details. There's no organized central atheist alliance -- we're "independent thinkers." Atheism might mean different things to different people. To me, it is simply a lack of beliefe in a God. I can't think of any God that makes any sense, and so I don't believe in them. Truth is important to me, if God revealed himself in a verifiable way, I wouldn't argue with him, unless he tells me to do something immoral.
@halfie25 "Atheist" is not restricted to those gavel-pounders who insist "there is no god." "Atheist" also covers those who don't "KNOW" but also don't believe.
Excellent points. I find myself somewhere between atheist and agnostic depending on the day, and I've noticed much the same reaction even attempting to discuss it as an outside viewpoint. For many believers the reaction is much the same as if I handed them a lemon and told them to bite into it, even as a course of discussing objectively.
@bananagraveyard There is NO DIVIDE between agnostic and atheist. If you, banana, don't believe, you're an ATHEIST. Whether that shocks your sensibilities or not, it's the truth.
@indignant99 It would take a lot more than than to shock my sensibilities. I'm not even shocked you can't tell the difference between two simple dictionary definitions. I am however annoyed at yet another person trying to tell me about what I believe when it's apparent they don't know all the facts or what I'm thinking. I've already had enough of that for a lifetime. Go lecture someone else about what they believe. Shoo.
Read Ernest Becker. When someone else has a different story for what happens when you die, it's a threat (conscious or subconscious) to whatever your story is. To religious people, having a different death narrative is better than having none at all; you at least get credit for telling a campfire story instead of abstaining.
It could be that people don't like to be told they're stupid which you're doing when you tell them you're an atheist even if you don't directly call them stupid. They're less insulted by someone who believes in a different god because at least that person thinks that belief in some kind of god is reasonable. Such a person merely thinks they're wrong about something but not necessarily lacking in intelligence. It doesn't help that a famous atheist called them all delusional and not just mistaken.
@Chuck1863 Well, the sad fucking fact is that most people, a majority on the planet, are stupid. Religion is just one more factor is solidifying their stupidity. You're right, they don't like being told they're stupid. They don't like clear illustration that they're stupid.
I started to doubt in a god(s) existence when I was still a witness so my deconversion was a dual-deconversion. God, at least as any human has ever defined it, makes no sense. I'm absolutely amazed how anyone can believe for that matter.
I imagine they view your atheism as lack of *their* personal god. As such they feel the need to affirm their own belief and 'scratch the itch' that is you - someone able to live without their particular personal comfort blanket.
What these people fundamentally fail to understand is that no-one else in existence, ever, has a belief in that same god... because it is personal. Even if it is the "same" god, same name - that god is as different as each person is, because it's exists in their head.
this is because "Conditioning Since Birth". like telling child about Santa Clause or the Bunny since they are born, once they discover the "Truth", the magic is over... difference with adults is that they've lived in this world longer and have faced many ups and downs. then this conditioning from the bible gives them a glimmer of hope based on Logical fallacies... "the world is shitty because the Devil running it" and "Jesus(or whatever denomination) will terminate all Evil"...
@IzzyXgallY religion teach people to point guilty to whatever is against their "Hope"... make them lazy to face the terrible "Truth" is simply a projection of their own state of being. Michael Jackson said once: "if you want to make the World a better place, take look at yourself and make the change". everything starts with One. religion doesn't encourage this and that's why you get the "looks".
