i really need help !!! how do i start my design portfolio ? i am still in school and we dont do any of that making it in school time os i have to do it at home myself were do i begin and what all goes in it ? i really need a good description i have asked collages and got no answers we no good ones anyway !!! please help

I have just picked out my options for school and i chose art because i want to do fashion design and my school gave me a great opportunity to go down to London and work with some of the successful designers for fashion shows and TV and i'm only 15 so i can't wait to actually start to work with them as a job.

And also thanks for doing this video because it has showed me what to expect and to put in a portfolio even though i have already started. Thankyou -Emily- xx

I got mine from John Lewis if you are UK based- just look on ebay too but go for one that is the same size adjustments as you. xx

hey, am a medical student in china BUT am working on designing and starting my own fashion line at the same time. It sounds a bit crazy on the surface i know but ve always had a passion for fashion for as long as i can remember so am really glued to doing both. Right now i just have sketches of my designs tho, no where close to being in contact with a manufacturer(as i have no background formal education in fashion whatsoever) but i wd appreciate all the help i can get. ps: IN LOVE with ur work!

Oh your at a big advantage living in China as you will have so many manufacturers- you can hand over your sketches to get them made into samples. Where as I have to make them all myself as I don't have direct contact with any factories. If you find any good ones let me know. You should set up a free big cartel shop to sell a few of your designs. My shop is big cartel and you can make up your own theme and look- it's simple.

Try to consider Fashion Merchandising then, you will have the opportunity to learn some marketing skills, trends and how to put looks together and will enable to find any fashion job in industry, even if you have to start from bottom. (hope that helps)

I know alot of people who have felt confused like you whether to go into fashion or a more acedemic subject. Just do what feels best- in school though def go for art as a subject! xx

I didn't answer your book one cos I don't really use books- they are very precise on how to do things alot of the time and I feel it is easier just to know the basics and go from there working with your own rules. xx

The over locker is the machine that stops the edges from fraying- you'll see it on most of your clothes. xx

i cant decide if i want to go to galashiels or not... the courses look perfect for me but its in like galashiels and i wanted to go to a big city... sooo hard to decide

I know I was in the same situation. I don't know how much making Galashields teaches. I had a friend who went there and then left and went to Edinburgh. They are more marketing and working in the commercial fashion world. They have a good reputation though. I guess if you are in the middle of no where you have less distractions and get working!

Also you could always do the first yr there then apply to 2nd yr somewhere else. x
