1st point, Even if you believe in climate change. Why is more goverment the answer? When has the goverment ever manged something effectively? Including taxes. Any climate taxes they collect will not be spent effectively. A private group does so much better.
2nd point, is this not a morality tax? A government deciding what is evil and what is righteous throw the tax code.
Carbon dioxide is plant food. The leftoid politicians in Oz talks about "pricing pollution" yet they are talking about plant food. Not CO, NOx, methane, oxides of mercury etc. Carbon pollution? Nonsense.
@Siegetower that is a gross oversimplification, obviously CO2 is essential for plants however once you increase its concentration in the atmosphere it can impact plants differently. C3 plants cope a lot better with increased CO2 and a lot of them are weeds. C4 plants do not thrive as well under it.
@Maleincornwall "REAL SCIENCE" wow that certainly shows where your bias is. you think a show by a right-wing host who specifically chooses 3 scientists JUST because they will agree with him is an accurate reflection of the science?
Well done chaps, chances of anyone listening, circa zero.
The unescapable reality is this is the last chance the, any, government (s) have to convince the populace to fund the deficit, by extortionate and punitive taxation, thereby maintaining the spendthrift status quo.
We all know that the earth resources are finite, the consuming or the resources only expands exponentially with increasing demands and population. If we want to address an issue let's start with exponential population growth.
@doyouwannit Western populations are slowing in their growth. Asian populational growth will too, in time. Besides, productive capacity is not finite but is expandable via free markets and process of greater capital intensiveness and in connection, technology. Most of the insane population growth is in formerly socialist countries.
@doyouwannit Something is a resource only when our technology and markets realise we can determine a useful purpose for something. Before the industrial revolution the world's resources of rubber was almost at 0, there were rubber trees but no uses for rubber. Oil was not thought of as a resource until the automotive industry realised how useful it was - before that it was considered a natural waste product. In future there will be resources we cannot consider - we cant imagine what they are
can you tell me how taking money from "mr A" and giving it to "mr B" who is going to end up very rich and buy bigger houses, cars etc. is going to help the climate, will he turn up his air-con?
Most known Earth-type life depends on five essential elements (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus) and the presence of liquid water, which is often described as simply carbon-based life.
There`s` always been Carbon lol life on planet earth IS based on carbon.
It`s` nothing but a scam to take more money off the people & if they cared so much they`d` stop using depleted Uranium and other Toxic killers in our ionosphere and below it.
you have got to be joking, i know news takes a while to get down under, but really, there is NO co2 problem it is all a con to get us tied down further. Arghh !!
