  • cant believe in this day and age people are discussing his sexuality. shame on you, will not even bother justifying it. shame.

  • Luther Vandross never came out on record stating to being a homosexual let alone living as one. People are scum!

  • @Sileni Amen!

  • Luther was a wonderful performer and seems like he was a wonderful man. Regardless of what his sexuality, he was a son, a brother, a friend. For all you so called Christians so back and read the bible. Jesus loved everybody! You should be ashamed.

  • normally I wouldn't remark on others "religious-type comments" but I just couldn't leave this page without doin it this time... so... @1mrsinger... be careful the Good Book also says.. JUDGE NOT LEST YEE BE JUDGED. Leave that job to our Heavenly Father, he is good at it and fair. He may not always love what we do but he does love us not o mention that lifestyle is not the unforgivable sin. Sorry for the rant people. That being said..

Mr. Luther Vandross was one remarkable human being &is missed

  • WHAT SONG WAS THAT PATTI SUNG. WE BROUGHT U TO FAR???

  • @EXCLUSIVENEXOTIC it sounds like "Can't Give Up Now"

  • Comment removed

  • Hallelujah! Patti!

  • 29 dislikes? Who could dislike this??

  • We going to miss you Luther

  • @godchildforevermore if you're serious in what you just said then i just wanna say its people like you who make people like me shun religion.

  • what year luther died

  • duhhh! i had no idea he was gay!! and what does it matter? thank God He and He alone is judge!!! God is no respecter of persons and neither and I. praise the Lord! praise ye the Lord. He saw fit to give this man his voice.

  • HOW DARE YA'LL PEOPLE DISRESPECT LUTHER'S SEXUALITY DURING THIS VIDEO OF HIS SERVICE....I MEAN REALLY, THAT SHIT DON'T MATTER...PAY YOUR RESPECTS TO THIS GREAT MAN AND GO ON WITH YOUR LIVES.

  • And my praise is that GOD loves us all the same, he made us in his image each and every one of us. so if luther was gay , straight or whatever, he was a man that i would give my own life to because he brought me so much happiness in my own. so let god strike me down cause i was made in his image, and im proud that he blessed me with Luther Vandross!!! thats is ppl gay or not just his voice well is a god given talent and im glad i have heard such a voice in my life time. xxxxxxxxxx

  • EXACTLY SO WHAT IF HE WAS GAY HE WAS WAY MORE THEN HIS SEXUALITY, SIMPLE , UR MORE THEN WHO U LIKE WHNE U GO FOR A JOB JUST LIKE ME, SIMPLE, GOD BLESS LUTHER

  • Patti knows just how to lighten a mood, with her casual tone of voice. Even though she got passionate with the reading, she knew how to bring it back down. Didn't get too emotional. And the song was touching and smile-triggering.. Thank-you Patti for that great tribute to Luther. A Talent to a Talent.

    R.I.P Luther Vandross.

  • Touching and uplifting >>> RIP Luther Vandross ... There will never be another !!!

  • Luther was Gay.....so what???Its better then stupid......He was a great Talent..RIP Luther

  • isn't this woman a pure talent ? ooohhh yeeeaaahhh!!!!! and luther vandross ,he wasn't big at all in italy, where i am,but having another example by someone who was homosexual, talented in many ways and almost forced to hide himself till the day he died,it just empowers me to be myself no matter what, and let my talents show up,thanx luther may you rest in peace

  • isn't this woman a pure talent ? ooohhh yeeeaaahhh!!!!! r.i.p.luther

  • homosexuality is just another manifestation of sexual perversion (which most of us are guilty of) "He who is without sin should cast the first stone"

  • Stop with all the gay talking. Luther was a great talent who left us too soon. I do believe he didn't take care of himself. I don't agree with the gay lifestyle but I loved me some luther. The bible says we will ALL be judged including the liars, adulterers, murderers etc.

  • We all knew Luther was gay. Yes,we did. But you know what? I and MANY others judged him by his enormous talent and beautiful voice. As it should be. A person's race or sexuality has no bearing on their talent. I just feel sad that he had to hide who he was for nearly his entire career. Because I and again,MANY others, would've still loved him anyway.

RIP,Luther,a legend that can never be replaced.

  • Sadly missed

  • AMAZING!!! RIP LUTHER!!!!

  • All the 29 people that hate this video just never know who Luther was. They just love hip hop and all that other stuff going on today. Patti was a good friend of Luther

  • why this choir aint paying attention! she gave them the signal to stand and sing with her......sigh.....

  • @applepoop84 (appleSHIT84) ur an asshole without a doubt.

  • Who is Ronnie?

  • @RobStillLives: ronnie is a nickname. his middle name is " ronzoni". his music publishing company is called "uncle ronnie's music".

  • power. patti expressed it. and i am so proud of his mother. such a love. unconditional. thank you. your son...kept the promise and then gave some of the best music we know today. legend. thank you.

  • @applepoop84 Uh ohhh your man is the one who got beat down for being drunk atthe airport? That doesnt make her racist she took pics with WHITE cops afterwards!

  • the 20 who dislikes this can go to hell!!!!

  • WOW WHAT? I didnt even know this great singer died his songs were great but the greatest song 2 me was dance with my father that song was soooooo true it made me cry and cry my dad died sept 2007 and i played that song over and over and over wow i cant believe hes gone.....

  • everytime I am sad I watch this video...it fills me up with hope and joy....listening to Patti Labelle singing that way...and expressing so much love and respect for the heavenly-gifted Luther Vandross ...what else one can say?...

PATTI ...you are the real lady-queen of R&B...

  • The black community has an obligation to embrace their gay brothers & sisters. Community means everyone having the same rights. EVERYONE.

  • @AdArmand ...BS

  • @thisworldissick - then be prepared to take no offence the next time somebody undermines YOU.

  • @AdArmand is that really true ????????

  • @AdArmand Your a disrespectful piece of scum...

This man is a legend right up there with James Brown, Micheal Jackson or any other artist in the business. Gender or his sexuality played no place let alone had no place in being brought into this; Guy could've been your Grandfather or Great Grandfather.

Shove that LGBT RANT elsewhere this is for blacks not your soap box to rant on about politics. People these days.

  • @Sileni - you're the disrespectful one, as well as repressed. After everything the community has been through, you'd think any black person would be disgusted by prejudice directed at ANYONE. Get a clue, and grow up - let go of your hateful and insidious preconceptions because you only poison yourself with this attitude.

  • @AdArmand That double speak and shitty attempt in using reverse psychology won't work on the likes of me. Fans wouldn't try using Youtube as a mouthpiece to spread propaganda about someone especially when it comes to Luther Vandross. Babyboomers or MelleniumToddlers need to learn their fucking place especially when it comes to us Generation X' we're not like you as we don't need politicians, Faux News, MTV or BET to know good music or let our voices be heard. Blacks owe Gays nothing.

  • @Sileni - you are so defended and vitriolic, bitter and shaking with rage. All of these ensure that whatever argument you think you have is your own delusion, or something you are desperately trying to convince yourself. He sacrificed the chance for personal happiness and concentrated on his career, but something tells me that if he had followed his heart, the likes of you would have made his life unbearable with your rancid judgements and self righteous narcissism. Shame on you.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sileni - blacks owe gays nothing? What a disgusting statement. How about black gays - are they to be treated like subhumans? You are sick.

  • @Messylin Yes, race and or ethnicity is not the same as living a particular lifestyle of choice... so this null and void completely all question(s) asked, if you're going to to try pushing that weak rhetoric on me.

He is a Legendary (first) Black (second) celebrity (last) that catered to an older audience when a then era was being hit hardest by crack cocaine in the 80's and 90's. Generation X isn't Generation Y or Baby Boomers. We know the game politically inside and out!

  • Again, Patti LaBelle, you have blessed us all with your voice and this is definitely no exception. You were meant to be there paying tribute Luther Vandross. I am sad he had to leave us so soon, and I wish people would stop trying to minimize him, by discussing his sexuality. Patti, I love your music so much that I named my Boston Terrier puppy after you and my deceased mother. Her name is Granny's Star Patti LaBelle

  • When non-black artists are OUT, there is a segment of their community who supports them regardless. Why is this such a shameful thing in the black community! Homophobia is a form of racism. This shame is part of the cause of AIDS in black females. Assimilation was suppose to be the grounds for gaining equal access, not exercising oppression as the oppressors. If you have felt the stench of racism, no one would judge this beautiful being, Mr. Vandross, with racist eyes.

  • @classanddignity - I get what you're saying, but don't believe all of the hype. There are gay black people who are "out" after a fashion, or able to live unashamed within the black communities. Yes - the empty vessels make the most noise. However, some of us who do support our gay sisters and brothers in a myriad of ways. You rightly, I think, draw the links between different kinds of oppression, and implicitly touch on the dangers of the DL scene. One day, we know, a change is gonna come.

  • @kwesi01I like your faith. Yes, I am aware that there are those in the black community who live honestly. However, it is not where it should be due to the issues of self-image/esteem & spiritual/religious mis- teachings. It is important to focus on the spirit as it isn’t about what exists externally as to fit into a human category. It is about accepting the face that God has given us so that we can be who we were meant to be to interpret that honestly, & we can deal with “differences” kindly.

  • Patti LaBelle inviteD LUther to perform with her on her ONE niGht ONLY concert 1998. .They done two Duets that evening. They had a very close friendship. .So i can only imagine how Patti was FEelin right there!

  • lol..LOL why patty labelle holdin up that Paper...SHE BEEN SINGING THAT SONG SINCE SHE WAS 35!!!...PATTY STOP ALL THAT DRAMA, DIVA !!! LOL

  • is patty gone sing or NOT cus this thing is buffering!

  • What a great loss!

  • people should acting as if being gay keeps you from being able to perform a job who you sleep with does not impair your abilities so the military ,schools, police, entertainers and others should chill the fuck out cause some people are with plain ole ass wholes of the opposite sex and that to me is no better.

  • @n9thwardmike -What has your comment about being gay got to do with Luther Vandross? You're a sad case.

  • @davidmerc01 well if you must know i was speaking of the other comments on this this video just like you read mine read some of the others now you speaking out of turn thats sad.

  • WHo is Ronnie? Is that Luther's real name?

  • who would dislike this smh

  • @carameldipp1 >>Ronnie is Luther's middle name. His name is Luther Ronzoni Vandross. Ronzoni because Luther's mom could only eat Ronzoni spaghetti when she was expecting him! I watched this on my job and I dared anyone say a word to me when I did! Luther Vandross is and was the best male recording artist in history IMO!! He is at peace now, no suffering in heaven only joy and Luther you are in good company with MJ and JB and my daddy and my grandpa and grandma!

  • AWW IM SO SORRY HE DIED AND PATTI LABELLE IS A GREAT SINGER AND I DONT LIKE TO SEE HER UPSET

  • woo woo

  • 5:03 patti went sanctified on us!

  • @MrPaperchaser1977 such an awful thing to say, there's nothing wrong with gays at all.

  • @MrPaperchaser1977 Shut hell up! You don't know what the hell happens when we die - hearsay and allegories are NOT FACTS! Your triffling ass just might be heading to hell for saying such a mean spirited and nasty thing! If goons like you are in heaven, then your twisted intepretation of God, I want NO part of!

  • Un grand homme qui nous as quitter :'(

  • hey my favorite luther song is here and now

  • RIP brother I sure miss the good old lovely songs. GBu still listen to u daily. Ron

  • i no its been a long time but my condolences to da family and friends r.i.p ur really missed

  • @MrPaperchaser1977 even worse is a judgemental breeder

  • u can tell she tried hard not to cry

  • SSSSSSOOOO SSSSADDDDDD!!!!!!!!

  • i took it in there and it felt so good mmm lol

  • I want to get down with the new intern at my work… if he won't, will somebody else here?

  • Luther...."You're so Amazing, truly loved, we'd follow you to the moon and the sky above"....Rest in Peace we love you man

  • What the name of the song at the 5:00?

  • @antifloyd4ever no ways tired

  • you are an asshole, I don't care if he was gay or straight, he sang from his heart & thats all that matters. My point is wtf bash him now when he is dead, nobody cares if he was gay, except maybe his lover. the man was a musical genius remember him as that.

  • WHO CARES IF HE WAS GAY GET OVER IT

  • I love you Patti Labelle, MAY HE REST IN PEACE I LOVE YOU LUTHER VANDROSS!! LUTHER YOU HAVE YOUR WINGS YOU ARE GODS ANGEL AND CHILD I LOVE YOU!! :) <3 U

  • Not a day goes by that I don't think about Luther's voice and how no one will ever come close to the stage show he would give to his fans. I loved him, thought he was cool then I saw him in concert and I was hooked. God bless the fact that, I was apart of his history.

  • wow R.I.P Luher Vandross....... a great singer is gone but not forgotten

  • Yes (TheAnkheart), he was gay. Luther Vandross was one of the most talented singers ever to grace the public with his voice. Yes, a God given voice that even he himself above knew would make millions of people laugh and cry...something very important in life for us all to experience. Lets all remember that being Gay is not a curse nor is it something dirty or wrong! We will all always be God's children. Thank you Luther, you are forever missed!

  • @MisterAAB1

did you sleep with Luther ? if not, shut the hell up.

  • @ROTTYLUV4ME wtf are you talking about??? if you read my message it was an answer and an opinion about Luther Vandross. at no point did i put anyone down.

  • @ROTTYLUV4ME You are obviously ashamed of him to be gay WHY you would attack that person for pointing to the FACT that he was gay. Guess what , Luther's true fans DON'T CARE! It's people like you why he died alone. Luther sang about LOVE with the most amazing voice EVER, and because of people like you, he was afraid to love who his heart's desired. I hope he finds the joy, he didn't get to experience here on earth.

  • @Kumtekmeon thank of all the more fans he would have touched if artist like him Michael Jackson and Prince were more open about there sexualitys.

  • @nickelwindow53 very true and maybe that's why these younger black male artists today, who are, continue to live in denial. I hope that this will one day be a thing of the past, because artistry should NEVER be about the man, but the ART!

  • @Kumtekmeon So true. I would love the Trey Songz, Ushers, and Justin Durulos to feel comfortble enough to come out and be themselves. I would love for them to also be able to make songs about being in love with men. Were in the second decade of the 20th Century. We have got to advance as a civilization.

  • @nickelwindow53 I don't know if those guys are, BUT if that is true I do support your point 100%. Persons need to be who they are and STOP allowing the mighty dollar OR other people''s opinions of them to get in the way. I have seen that gays are highly gifted in the art of entertainment, so it should come as no surprise if one's favorite actor, singer, writer, performer etc is gay. We as the consumer need to put aside our selfish fantasies and accept artists for their artistry.

  • @MisterAAB1

Perfect!!! You said exactly what I could not put together re Luther........amazing voice, gay....hey...it is the soul that matters...

  • @1mrsinger "ill say"? Is it sick? "Being gay is a sing"? They must have great vocals. Listen here, we sin everyday, we are born sinners. Your lack of spelling and grammar is a sin. Judging others is a sin as well. Deal with your own life.

  • @RedIsTheColourOfThe lack of spelling and grammar is a sin .THAT'S FUNNY IM SORRY LOL.to funny

  • I loved him so much he was Unique one oF kind! rip Luther

  • is luther a gay?

  • @TheAnkheart does it matter? so ignorant and rude.

  • @AveolarD well im sorry, im just curious.because im not born in his generation thats why i dont know.

  • @TheAnkheart that's no excuse. still ignorant. grow up.

  • @AveolarD you dont care.

  • @TheAnkheart happy thanksgiving and go away.

  • I quite literally grew up on Luther, I'm only 18 but I have his songs on my iPod and know the lyrics to a majority of his amazing songs. I remember the day he died I couldn't believe it and I didn't want to believe it because I thought LV was AWESOME and AMAZING. This video makes me choke up a little bit because you can see the heart felt emotion coming from Patti. For Always and Forever Luther

  • That would break your heart. That was so sad. I loved luther he was a legend.

  • Luther & Patti....that is all you would have to say...two greats in their own right....one need not know a whole lot about their private lives to know that Luther was one of the most kindest and generous people. Patti has the same reputation, they were and are pure of heart in their music, their message and their legacy...Luther & Patti meant so much to me when i was younger, they were spot-on with their music....the message was always there...Love & Respect...

  • Pattie i will slap you in the mouth for singing like that... GIRL!!!

  • @JadeBowman02 Yes!!!!!!!!! I love her.

  • Amen to all of this He was the best miss him !!! What a beautiful piece of writing. God Bless Luther forever. xxxxx

  • @CrazyKennyHaHa What the hell does this mean and what is its relevance to Luther?

  • I always felt bad for Luther's mother, because every single one of her children died before she did. Luther was, in my opinion, the best male singer in recorded history. I also felt sad for him that he was not able to express in song the full joy of his closest relationships, but he did express his love in other very powerful ways, and he will be deeply missed. side note: true respectful love, in ANY form, sexual or otherwise, is not a sin, it comes from God.

  • @thegenie1 that is beautiful.well expressed,Luther Vandross will be missed a beautiful singer,

  • @thegenie1 yes if he was alive now he could be a free bird. And that is sooooo sad to know that all her children passed before her :( I'm a mom and that is a feeling................Yes his voice was a absolute gift from GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP Lutha....ur voice is like butta baby

  • @thegenie1.... There's" a fineline of belief Differencebetween LUST and Love you'd best believe Dont fool yourself

  • Every time i watch this my heart breaks.....the beautiful message a mother should never have to read to her son and Patti's beautiful voice echoing in the church, its so touching in every way...the tears can't help but fall......

  • All the voices of my generation are gone...Luther Vandross...Barry White...Teddy Pendergrass. How many babies were conceived listening to these men??? R.I.P Luther...Barry...Teddy.

  • Miss Patti's incredible presence always makes me get goosebumps and want to cry!

  • Missing your music R.I.P Luther Vandross.

  • SANG MS PATTI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whats with her going whoop! whoop! ??? i sang 'thats the sound of da police' out of a refelction.

  • Beautiful words and remembrance and song by Miss Patti. Miss Luther so much...RIP, dear friend.

  • I think he is a good man I am missing his voice but I am getting his songs on here so I am waiting for courtney to say he is doing good babe. x

  • R.I.P Luther We love you. Sing to the angels.

  • who the hell is ronnie?

  • @madrobin Luther

  • @madrobin if you knew the legacy his mom used to call him ronnie

  • I must say that in my short lived life that there has only been one entertainer that I have dreamed of meeting, and yes it is Ms. Patti, her spirit is contagious. So contagious that my daughter had become a Patti fan at the tender age of 3, and would bellow "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with Patti as if she was the original artist of that song.

May God continue to shine on you Ms. Patti!!!!!!

  • Patti is the bomb!

  • God bless God for giving us Luther. No one none had as sweet as voice as Luther. Listening to his voice was like listening to a thousand angels. The King of soulful R&B Luthur. Much love.

  • to this day I SWEAR "Here and Now" will be my "first dance" at my wedding!! LOVE that song...by such a beautiful voice!!!

  • Patti...you did Luther proud, you moved us all with your words and vocals...we love and loved Luther still and you for making his passing that much easier...god bless you and Luther, vocals such as yours and his are so very rare....

  • @CenturianRule Black against Gays...grow up...we all hate you...you asked for my negative comment because of yours...not nice is it? See my comment on Luther and get real...hater! Show some kindness..sick of Gay crap...have some respect for his family...you need to apologize mate....
