i thought it may be a gt6. a spitfire with a hard top and a v6 engine. and secondly i never claimed to be overly knoledgeable about these cars, after all im only young and i have a love for lovly old cars, and also you may say im not knnoledgeable but ud never keep up with me!!!
@1006xrhonda Wrong again. The GT6 never had a V6, it had an inline six (striaght 6, big difference) and there's more than just a roof involved as the GT6 had a different rear suspension than the Spitfire. I ought to know as I owned a MK2 Spitfire and a GT6+. So who's keeping up with who?
@joshfontanella Is that so? Funny, I don't know many men in their 50s and 60s that have the name "Josh" and listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against The Machine. . . "mate". How is it that you used to work for Triumph and don't know about the GT6 getting 'Rotoflex' suspension and the Spitfire NOT getting it? Me fink's you full of bullocks, gov.
@zapwatt. dont mean a thing mate how many u owned it a little thing called natural ability, somin i got and u dont:) and yeah ur right the gt6 is a inline 6 not a v6 my mistake u should get a medal. and ur wrong mate the gt6 had the same rear suspension as the spitty which was inherited from the triumph herrald, any knoledgeable person would know that, and i know this because i am sitting here reading a classic car mag which describes this, so do ur research
@1006xrhonda That's the difference, kiddo. You're reading a magazine (which I have books about) and I actually rebuilt one. While we're talking about "research", you should "research" the word rotoflex. R-O-T-O-F-L-E-X
@zapwatt actually mate im not sure ur a experianced adult i mean who would go so low to argue with a kiddo. and by time im as old as u make out il have rebuilt more then one of these
@1006xrhonda You surely spend more time on your computer than you do in English class. How can you rebuild any car when you can't construct a sentence. And you're English!!! By the way, I am on my smartphone. I can spanner my MK1 Capri whilst schooling you on the differences between ordinary Spitfires and mighty GT6s
@zapwatt your funny haha i dont go to school im 18 and a refrigeration engineer and i done terribly in english, in fact i done terrible at school. im not interseted in that kinda thing, im interested in cars and mechanical engineering, you clearly know more about these old cars then me due to you probly 20 years or more extra on the earth, but get a life i left a nice somment on someones page showing my interest in a lovly car and ur straight down my throat, get a life mate.
@1006xrhonda Well if you're gonna try to be an engineer then you're going to have to learn lot's of math and get good at school. Good luck, and best wishes, kiddo.
@zapwatt well anyway i dont even try and spell properly on youtube anyway, and for work i use a dictionary. but cheers:) were both abviously classic car enthusiats, and this vid is good cos the guy driving has a good feel for the limit thats why i like it
Sounds like you were running too much timing 31-32BTDC max 11 compression.I found plugs over a 7 gave major carbon build up in the engine during low load situations never worked too well unless on track at max rpm, way too cool with a good ignition curve. I was pushing a fair few horses with my last engine it was fine on BP6ES/7ES using Optimax fuel, talking track 30mins at a time without any detonation...Never had any det problems or overheating plugs unless its overadvanced /under fuelled.
Mine's got an 11:1 compression ratio, lightened and balanced flywheel, 30 thou bore out and race cam. I blew mine up and had to rebuild it too, did the unleaded head conversion at the same time. I've found that with the 8EV plaugs in it and a dash of octane booster all detonation problems are fixed.
but im sure knew that all ready old man.

then the mk II gt6 had double-jointed halfshafts and transvervse leaf spring from the Vitesse mk II so that the drive shaft had more room to move

thanks for posting this brilliant video... shows how much fun a triumph spitfire is. is urs a v6 or a 1500?

@1006xrhonda Are you serious?
zapwatt 1 year ago
@zapwatt serious about what???
1006xrhonda 1 year ago
@1006xrhonda
#1 no Spitfire came with a V6
#2 a knowledgeable person would know from the sound of the exhaust note that this is not a V6

@zapwatt the spitfire and the gt6 both had the chassis and rear suspension from the triumph herald. any knowledgable person would know that!

@Spritely1978 Not an A-series. This gem is a 'Standard' engine. Also had some siamesed ports though.

Is this a Mk3 Spitfire? I have one but I wouldn't have the nuts to drive it like you drive yours. By the way, get your speedo fixed!
pete2778 5 years ago
Tis a Mk3, but its hardly standard.

Looks like a Mk3 to me, good bit of driving, you're braver than I am in the wet with mine!
