My Great Grandfather was a black guy from Chicago...though you wouldn't know it seeing me - I'm as white as white gets due to my English father. My mum is a NZ Maori and my uncles on my fathers side used to whisper "Nigger" at me and push me around when I was only 10 and no-one was looking,and they were grown men. I've never felt bad because I was dark, but funny, because of your video, i do a little now. Dude, i'm 18 and I've been messing with black, asian, white and indian girls for a while now. It's all about your mindset and how you carry yourself. I had a father that made it his mission to break my spirit and any form of self confidence I had. I have a great deal of pride about my race. But many people I know don't. Ignorant people call me a sellout, but at the end of the day, it's about yourself.

Whenever I go outside...it seems all I ever hear about is how someone looks. Going through school and university I always thought adult life would be defined by one's character and intelligence, but often it is all about appearances. Very sad.
I'm white, but I hear you. I agree that everyone should be proud of who they are. We all bring something to the table. Blacks might follow white trends but it goes the other way too. She always wanted to buy her things and take her places and she intentionally shunned my other sister who was fair skinned. I think sometimes the opposites of what ever a person is attracts that person and not so much dislike of who you are. I have very wavy curly hair. When I was younger I hated it. My mom can relate to your experience you had with your aunts. I've never felt bad because I was dark, but funny, because of your video, i do a little now. Dude, i'm 18 and I've been messing with black, asian, white and indian girls for a while now. It's all about your mindset and how you carry yourself. I had a father that made it his mission to break my spirit and any form of self confidence I had. I have a great deal of pride about my race. Tmot, I agree with your assessments. It seems that people are all about appearances...whether it be skin color, height, weight, looks of intelligence or looks of authority. Whenever I go outside...it seems all I ever hear about is how someone looks. Going through school and university I always thought adult life would be defined by one's character and intelligence, but often it is all about appearances. Very sad.

I'm white, but I hear you. I agree that everyone should be proud of who they are. We all bring something to the table. Blacks might follow white trends but it goes the other way too. Some whites try to talk and dress like a certain stereotype of blacks. Whites spend hours in tanning salons to try to darken their skin. I guess the real message is that the grass always appears greener on the other side, so just be happy with who you are.

I just found out is has begun to be a problem In Africa as well my wife is from Somalia, needless to say and regretebly after over 10 years of a marriage we are seperated. She is an absolute physical beauty by any standard, yet she had problems with her dark skin. She did not bleach her skin thank the gods, but she had a complex about her self in public, that I hated.

.. the other was darker complected. I had an Aunt, who was very light completed,who only wanted to have interaction with the sister who was darker complected. She always wanted to buy her things and take her places and she intentionally shunned my other sister who was fair skinned. I think sometimes the opposites of what ever a person is attracts that person and not so much dislike of who you are. I have very wavy curly hair. When I was younger I hated it. It was unmanageable.I grew out of that.

My family is what America would call 'white" but my mothers family is from Southern France where there are a lot of Portuguese influence.And we also have a lot of Native American so in the summer me and some of my siblings tan very dark. Tmot, I watched this vid a long time ago but I had to search for this vid to share this experience.....My firend met a guy that is sweet, thoughful, in college, works, was in the military and seem to care a great deal about her. You know what? She refuses to date him b/c she said he is too dark. Tmot, this girl is darker than you. It breaks me down cause I am a dark female too. I'm 22 years old; born in 1988 and growing up light skinned seems to have been harder than if I was dark skin. Black people don't usually think that light skin people are as tough as dark skinned people which is one reason why I got into so many fights when I was young. I'm black and I'm crazy attracted to all colors of black women. If fact I only date black women but I have family members that keep telling me that I'll end up with a white girl mainly because I'm going to college unlike them

Too right. Im a black american and ive witnessed this kind of behavior amongst my own circle of friends and family. Hating oneself is definately a sick disease in the black community. And I must admit that living in America isnt easy as all we have to look towards as good standards are that of white behavior. Thats not to say that blacks cant be unique in our own ways which we already are. Its just that some blcks prefer to aspire to be associated with whats superior. Namely, the white ideal.

We still suffer from the ramifications of slavery and Jim Crow in the black community. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The black man is the original man. My mom can relate to your experience you had with your aunts. When she was younger, my grandma's friends used to come over to their house and would bring my mom's sister's presents and not my mom any presents and my mom's sister was light skinned and had long hair and my mom was dark skinned and had nappier hair.

Thats so true my godfather always told me to "breed right". Which means the lighter the better. He said i shouldn't date any "darkies". Also i was at work and a suprivisior stated that she don't "burn coal". It was a shock to me because she's black and wants to date an "italian" that wouldn't even want her. Wow, this video I actually agree with. It's so ridiculous to me that people place value according to skin color and hair texture. It makes no sense to me. It's one thing if you just have a thing for a certain attribute, you can't help what turns you on. I personally have a thing for men with blue eyes.
