I got a 3 hp Ariens ,Dad bought it new way back in the 70s....did run but belts needed changing.....I thought it was huge back then, but compared to the Craftsman I got now,its a baby!
looks like a 1975? 24" i just restored a 1972 24" ariens it looked almost the same as that one i put an 8hp tecumsuh on it and replaced the scraper blade and skids and repainted it for only $150 works like new
I think it was older than 1975 to tell you the truth. It was a nice machine, but i later sold it as is since the auger gearbox leaked. Maybe i could of fixed it, but it was too much work.
I had approximatively the same problem with my old 8hp Ariens with Walbro carburator, too rich mixture. The problem was the spring of the gas screw who was too long and interfere to fully screw it.Instead of 2 1/2 turns on presets i had 4 1/2.
so would you ever consider getting a newer ariens or toro snowblower? i just bought a ariens 1028 new for 1400 its nice but its heavy, its got all the bells and whistles including handwarmers and traction control
Since we have a gravel driveway using the older Ariens is more suitable rather than beating down a new one. To make it short i would like give you an idea of how well the older ones are made. I once caught a tomato tower in my auger once. That thing was pretty well wrapped in there! It took alot of time, and frustration to remove it. After removal the auger gearbox was unharmed. If that happened to a newer Ariens it would of been killed!
If i had a snow removal business i would highly consider buying a new one. I think my neighbor should of done the same instead of buying Craftsman snowblowers for his winter business. He is always having problems with those things.
its a 1973 in 74 they went to a plastic embelem

Craig,
Do you live near Billy Mitchell Field??
Spent summers in WI as a kid. My Aunt lived in West Allis, then Wauwatosa...

Yup i live a few miles away from the airport. Allis, and Tosa are farther away.

I would love to see that one! I know the older Bolens are similar to the Ariens.

how old is your 8hp ariens?
BandOnTheRun87 3 years ago
I got it from my brother who recieved it as a gift from my other brother. I remember my other brother saying it was a 1971.
craig1974 3 years ago
are you going to keep this?
BandOnTheRun87 3 years ago
yes thats what the video said

so the older ones are better quality and last longer then the newer ariens?
BandOnTheRun87 3 years ago
The newer ones are lighter, but nothing compares to the bulletproof gearboxes of the older ones.
