This is quite interesting. I had no idea "Hamer" was a brand of guitar. And, of course, I love the music you compiled instantaneously! Sure wish I had just a smidge of your talents. I'm 54 now and wish that I would have learned to play a guitar, many a moon ago. Oh well -- darn it! LOL!
Rock on with your bad self.Hamers rule, the only guitar i would buy without playing it first. The quality is fantastic, hey you sound great even with my bad habit of drinking tequila when I play my Hamers.Love those Jethro Tull covers.Hey lets jam!!!!
I think the XT series guitars are a great value for the money. I had a Hamer Korina Standard and let it go about a year ago. I regret that decision now. Can't find a better $500 guitar now. I still have a Sunburst that cost me a whopping $160 on Ebay but I put some new SD '59s in it and it is one of the sweetest sounding guitars I have played.
what really pisses me off, and i mean REALLY PISSES ME OFF. is that a lot of guitar shops wont carry hamers, or they carry a very few select models.
now take the guitars in this video, you would be hard pressed to walk into a guitar shop in my area and ask them for a standard flame top. they will most likely show you a gibson explorer.
you can't even find the slammer by hamer guitars or basses in shops anymore. and those are great beginner instruments.
@PsychoSymantic That's too bad, man. 6 of my 7 Hamers came from my local guitar store...and I bought my first one on ebay. The regional Hamer rep visits our store periodically...in fact, my Artist actually belonged to him and he had it on consignment at our shop. He personally selected the woods for it and they built it to his specs...it's just short of a Custom Shop model. All of my others are imports from the XT line.
@BandOnTheRun87 Or I could lower my standards and start collecting Les Pauls....hehehehe. JUST KIDDING DAN!!! I know a guy who has a collection of Airline guitars...once upon a time the only place I knew you could get them was at Montgomery Ward department stores...I am not a fan of Airline, but they DID come out with some classic guitars which are worthy of collecting I suppose. My friend sure likes his collection, and that's really all that matters. ;)
@BandOnTheRun87 That's one way of putting it, yea. I like to refer to it as GAS...Gear Acquisition Syndrome, which sort of borders on OCD but comes in short bursts only once in a while. :D It's a good thing I don't have a thing for cars, isn't it? HAHAHA.
@haukurn Thanks man. This is probably not one of my better recordings but it was really fun in spite of the fact that I had never played along with this jam before...not to mention that I was really tipsy when Swampy decided I should play it...HAHAHA. Pure liquid courage working there baby...LOL.
Someone asked me if I am getting paid for all of this advertising I seem to be doing for Hamer Guitars. To that the answer is emphatically NO! When you come upon something really good you don't mind shouting about it from the mountain tops...and so that is basically what this amounts to. If my lowly little video production happens to inspire more people to buy Hamer Guitars then it is a mutual victory for all concerned and I don't want any compensation. I stand by my Hamers, pure and simple.
I agree Larry, Paul Hamer knew what he was doing back in the 70's. He produced some of the finest guitars ever made. Even some of the higher end imported models selling today are great playing and sounding guitars if a guy can't afford a new or vintage USA made Hamer. I would put an import up against some of the lower end Gibsons any day of the week..
Great rockin raw sounding jam! Of course that what happens when you put a "HAMER" in your hand. You never know what's going to come out! Nice job! Nice riffs with attitude. I'll have to post my new tunes as well with some pics of me & my "HAMERS" It looks like you had fun. Rock on!
That's something I would really like to add to my collection. I don't think I would go with the Chaparel (12-string) though...too many strings, and bass strings are expensive enough to replace just for a 4-string...LOL. They have one called the Cruise Bass from their XT line that I've been considering though....they come in either 4 or 5 string versions. Hey...Hamerheads RULE! :D Keep Rawkin!
GASP!!! And why DON'T you have a Hamer???? ROFL! I've played Gibsons most of my life and I would put my Hamer imports up against most of what Gibson is making these days. They definately kick Epiphone's butt all over the place, and the one Hamer USA model I have is the best guitar I've ever owned...to include my Les Paul and SG. Thanks for the kind words, PJ.
I don't recall off the top of my head if I used one 'm' or two in the video I made with '18'. But I do know that I've been pronouncing it exactly wrong. I guess I stand corrected ;)
LOL, I wasn't intending to appear to be nagging anyone about it, but it IS a common mistake so don't feel bad about it. I get tickled when people refer to me as silverhammer, and I basically just consider it a subconscious association with Maxwell's Silver Hammer, even though I DID sort of have that in mind when I came up with my screen name because I'm a huge Beatles fan. In truth I came up with that name because I have silver hair and play Hamer guitars...two-edged sword kind of a deal.
Ah ha.... it's a Hamer not a hammer! To me it sounds like a helluva of an axe!! But, seriously though, Larry, I think you would sound just as great if you were playing a Strat or a Les Paul. It's the player not the guitar. Great video and cool song! 5*****
I have a few Strats, and I have owned a Les Paul as well. It really just boils down to personal preference and what a person is comfortable with. Hey, if it has 6 strings, stays in tune, sounds good, and is playable...what more do you need? Beyond all of that it is simply a matter of choice according to one's musical style. Thanks for the kind words, Ferdy.
I AM blessed, ain't I? :D It used to be that NOTHING was too good for me and that's usually what I had...NOTHING. HAHAHA. Things DO turn around sometimes. :D Now...if I could only play the things I wanna play I'd be in hog heaven...HAHAHA.
LOL!

true but your main interest is hamers as far as guitars go i believe, you could always start collecting bottle caps or post stamps..
