Later. I don't like to stockpile too much in the way of weapons too early, because then it's too easy. I like to stay slightly under-equipped to help heighten the tension, and keep it challenging.

Posting an end of game spoiler on the 6th part of the walkthrough (which voers Chatper 2) isn't the right place for it and can ruin the surprise for anyone who doesn't know about that part, spoiler warning or not.

Because I started a fresh new game for these videos. Also, it's not a skill showcase, it's a walkthrough for entertainment purposes - so I take a more "cinematic" approach than I might while playing the game on my own. Taking my time to build the tension, etc. The entire walkthrough is 41 parts as it is. If I had chosen a higher difficulty, it would have taken too long because of how much harder it is to kill the enemies (more hits to go down). I'll be showing the post-game stuff later.
I can understand why you didn't use the items. But what I meant is I was suggesting you could use the end-game items, and since they make the game far easier, you could up the difficulty to compensate. Again, I understand why you made a fresh save now. Great videos by the way.

Lol! Yeah, the Wall guardians can be a pain. You'll get the hang of 'em, though. I can dispatch them pretty quickly now, just takes a few well-placed shots. Apparently high explosives work great with them too. And yes, those gravity wells can be a pain! :) Fun to lure Necros into 'em, though! SPLAT!

Thanks! Nope, it's single player only. Given that the whole concept is basically you ALONE on a spaceship fighting of scary creatures and just trying to survive, I don't know that it would gain much from multiplayer. Just doesn't seem like the type of game that would lend itself comfortably to deathmatch arenas, ya know?

Wow...some salespeople REALLY need to get their facts straight. Sorry about that! But I have a feeling you'll have a blast with the game anyway. It's one of the few modern games I can think of where it's actually OKAY that it doesn't have multiplayer, just because the single player campaign is so well done (and scary). Plus there's plenty of replay value, since you can unlock some cool stuff after your first run and carry your upgrades over into your replays.
theres a lot ov grafitti on the walls on the Ishimura in Dead Space and evenutally when you find that Marker text thats like gibberish i found out it actually can be decihpered into secret messages, like one leads you to a website bout Unitology where u git a cheat code or sumtin.
Yep! You could spend a good deal of time just trying to read/decipher all the grafitti. apparently if you manage to decode all the messages, it gives you a series of simple tasks to do. If you succeed in the tasks, you get a special code that gives you bonus of 5 nodes. Seems like a lot of work just for 5 nodes...
I assume you meant you've never been THIS scared...hehehe. Yep, I have to agree. I've played quite a lot of scary games before, but this one freaked me out more than any of 'em! I still have to play F.E.A.R. Heard it's awesome. And the sequel is coming out in February! :)

Ah, Chapter 10...that's a CRAZY hard level. I'd say it's probably the toughest level in the whole game, actually. But MAN will you be happy when you beat it! Just keep plugging away, you'll get through it eventually. It helps (a LOT) if you've got your Stasis upgraded to the max.
Chapter 4 is one of my fave parts. Loved the bridge, and it's the point where things get kicked up a notch (tougher enemies, and some NEW enemies). Good luck! The only advice I'll give is........stairs are your friend. ;)
The reason horror games are scary is not because of the things jumping out but the concept of disorientation. As long as they keep the player confused and disoriented then it's scary.
That's a good point! Though, I think with games it's more of a mix of things. With Dead Space you have things jumping out at you, the music helping to build the tension as you're skulking around the ship, and plenty of moments of disorientation (such as when the lights go out for a bit near the beginning, and the Zero-G sequences). All in all, if the mix is done well, you've got a top notch scare fest! :)
That's a very good question, I've been meaning to do a proper review for a while now. We're doing another 3 parts of gameplay, then maybe I'll finally get off my arse and do a review after that.
Who says I didn't? I'm only on Chapter 2 in this video... the first time I finished the game, I actually did it with only a Level 3 suit (but with all the bench upgrades maxed - air, hit points).
You dont have to uügrade anything, I just finished the game with the level 2 suite (on hard), with no air/ life upgrades, I've just upgraded the plasma-cutter and the impulse-rifle ;D now "impossible" awaits me... :>
It kinda makes me sad...xD I own not either of the game systems to play it, and my fiance -made me- get into the game. So I read the comics, watched the movie, and finally when he basically said,"SCREW THIS" and almost had a heart attack(literally) playing Dead Space, I had to see how much scarier the game was.
...I just wish I could see the entire thing now. xD
Why? Don't need it at this stage in the game. I finished the game with a Level 3 suit my first time through, didn't bother upgrading until Chapter 5. I saved my money for weapons and upgrades to those first.
Actually, the armor doesn't do much. I prefer to just not let them hit me. I've had all the suits and can speak from experience on that. The REAL protection comes from upgrading you health via the bench, and upgrading your weapons so you can take them down before they even touch you.

Well, to be fair Halo and Gears are more action games whereas Dead Space is sci-fi horror. So you can't REALLY compare them, since both the gameplay and genres are different. All depends what you like. I have plenty of shooters to tide me over, so I'm not in any rush to play Halo or Gears. If they come to PS3 at some point, sure, but it's really no big deal to me. I like Dead Space because it pushes the envelope with survival horror - does a lot of things different, while being familiar.

Honestly, at this point I think the graphics are about on par between the two. I think the PS3 has the POTENTIAL for better graphics, but we have yet to see anything that really pushes it. At least we're getting some true 1080p game on PSN, which is nice. AFAIK there aren't any 1080p games on the 360 yet. While most games WILL upconvert, they're all 720p native resolution tops. We'll see how the next year goes, should be interesting.

My friend and i just played this for the first time in the dark on his huge HD surround sound TV. IT IS AMAZING!!!! Also we were scared shit less so many times. We only got to the part where you got the thermite, so we haven't gotten far because we take a lot of time to go through one level. We love the videos
Seems like the easy level doesnt fit your gaming skills. Why not playing the game on hard? Its much more scarier and requires steady fingers on the mouse/pad.
Why do you automatically assume I'm playing on Easy? I'm playing on Normal. I'm actually going to go straight to Impossible once I finish my second run.
Because the gameplay is obviously not on hard, so therefore I am guessing it is on "easy", well, "normal" if you like. I like to feel that I am playing sth, that's why I always choose hard level, ESPECIALLY in survival horrors like Dead Space. The monsters are strong and dont die easilly, you JUST HAVE to use your money on stronger weapons and spend time improving those. Have a feeling that you go fearless through ur enemies with the plasma cutter like Barry Bonds with just a baseballbat ;-)
Well, bear in mind that in THIS video you're watching me play after I've finished the game and am halfway through my second run. Go back and watch the first 3 parts and see how I fared the very FIRST time I played. I usually play Medium for my first time on a game, then up the difficulty for later runs. I don't like my first time to be INSANE, just enough of a challenge that I can manage without too much frustration and enjoy the story. These vids were mainly to show the game, not my skills.
Hmmm...you've given me an idea for another Dead Space video, actually. As a triple answer to those who said I sucked, those who said I'm playing below my skill level, and those who just want to see more of the game. Picking up on Chapter 3...on IMPOSSIBLE MODE! :D

The writing actually reminds me of a game called 'Portal'.
Also like the energy-nodes or blocks and picking things up with the gun remind me of it.
I have no doubt you'd like that game.
It has like a similar atmosphere and some story behind it, but it's not horrific or anything.
However, still kind of twisted, more in a light-hearted humorous way.
Plus you barely need to worry about performance, it's like the opposite of 'Crysis'.

That game has a great zero-gravity-feature too, it works even better in first-person-view.
You just kind of float around and within a minute you just forget which way is up or down.
I bet you know the game, maybe not, either way, you'd probably love it.
You just need a strong PC to run it though, it's playable on even older systems with lower settings.
But then it doesn't look nice and won't perform too well.
So it's not as enjoyable then... but I still did... :D

Thanks! Nope, it's single player only. Given that the whole concept is basically you ALONE on a spaceship fighting of scary creatures and just trying to survive, I don't know that it would gain much from multiplayer. Just doesn't seem like the type of game that would lend itself comfortably to deathmatch arenas, ya know?

Thanks, but damn it's too late. I just bought it today because the stupid salesperson told me that it's multi-player. Oh well that's alright the game is good anyway.

Wow...some salespeople REALLY need to get their facts straight. Sorry about that! But I have a feeling you'll have a blast with the game anyway. It's one of the few modern games I can think of where it's actually OKAY that it doesn't have multiplayer, just because the single player campaign is so well done (and scary). Plus there's plenty of replay value, since you can unlock some cool stuff after your first run and carry your upgrades over into your replays.

theres a lot ov grafitti on the walls on the Ishimura in Dead Space and evenutally when you find that Marker text thats like gibberish i found out it actually can be decihpered into secret messages, like one leads you to a website bout Unitology where u git a cheat code or sumtin.

Yep! You could spend a good deal of time just trying to read/decipher all the grafitti. apparently if you manage to decode all the messages, it gives you a series of simple tasks to do. If you succeed in the tasks, you get a special code that gives you bonus of 5 nodes. Seems like a lot of work just for 5 nodes...

I assume you meant you've never been THIS scared...hehehe. Yep, I have to agree. I've played quite a lot of scary games before, but this one freaked me out more than any of 'em! I still have to play F.E.A.R. Heard it's awesome. And the sequel is coming out in February! :)

Ah, Chapter 10...that's a CRAZY hard level. I'd say it's probably the toughest level in the whole game, actually. But MAN will you be happy when you beat it! Just keep plugging away, you'll get through it eventually. It helps (a LOT) if you've got your Stasis upgraded to the max.

Chapter 4 is one of my fave parts. Loved the bridge, and it's the point where things get kicked up a notch (tougher enemies, and some NEW enemies). Good luck! The only advice I'll give is........stairs are your friend. ;)

The reason horror games are scary is not because of the things jumping out but the concept of disorientation. As long as they keep the player confused and disoriented then it's scary.

That's a good point! Though, I think with games it's more of a mix of things. With Dead Space you have things jumping out at you, the music helping to build the tension as you're skulking around the ship, and plenty of moments of disorientation (such as when the lights go out for a bit near the beginning, and the Zero-G sequences). All in all, if the mix is done well, you've got a top notch scare fest! :)

Who says I didn't? I'm only on Chapter 2 in this video... the first time I finished the game, I actually did it with only a Level 3 suit (but with all the bench upgrades maxed - air, hit points).

You dont have to uügrade anything, I just finished the game with the level 2 suite (on hard), with no air/ life upgrades, I've just upgraded the plasma-cutter and the impulse-rifle ;D now "impossible" awaits me... :>

It kinda makes me sad...xD I own not either of the game systems to play it, and my fiance -made me- get into the game. So I read the comics, watched the movie, and finally when he basically said,"SCREW THIS" and almost had a heart attack(literally) playing Dead Space, I had to see how much scarier the game was.
...I just wish I could see the entire thing now. xD

Why? Don't need it at this stage in the game. I finished the game with a Level 3 suit my first time through, didn't bother upgrading until Chapter 5. I saved my money for weapons and upgrades to those first.
Actually, the armor doesn't do much. I prefer to just not let them hit me. I've had all the suits and can speak from experience on that. The REAL protection comes from upgrading you health via the bench, and upgrading your weapons so you can take them down before they even touch you.

Well, to be fair Halo and Gears are more action games whereas Dead Space is sci-fi horror. So you can't REALLY compare them, since both the gameplay and genres are different. All depends what you like. I have plenty of shooters to tide me over, so I'm not in any rush to play Halo or Gears. If they come to PS3 at some point, sure, but it's really no big deal to me. I like Dead Space because it pushes the envelope with survival horror - does a lot of things different, while being familiar.

Honestly, at this point I think the graphics are about on par between the two. I think the PS3 has the POTENTIAL for better graphics, but we have yet to see anything that really pushes it. At least we're getting some true 1080p game on PSN, which is nice. AFAIK there aren't any 1080p games on the 360 yet. While most games WILL upconvert, they're all 720p native resolution tops. We'll see how the next year goes, should be interesting.

My friend and i just played this for the first time in the dark on his huge HD surround sound TV. IT IS AMAZING!!!! Also we were scared shit less so many times. We only got to the part where you got the thermite, so we haven't gotten far because we take a lot of time to go through one level. We love the videos

Seems like the easy level doesnt fit your gaming skills. Why not playing the game on hard? Its much more scarier and requires steady fingers on the mouse/pad.

Because the gameplay is obviously not on hard, so therefore I am guessing it is on "easy", well, "normal" if you like. I like to feel that I am playing sth, that's why I always choose hard level, ESPECIALLY in survival horrors like Dead Space. The monsters are strong and dont die easilly, you JUST HAVE to use your money on stronger weapons and spend time improving those. Have a feeling that you go fearless through ur enemies with the plasma cutter like Barry Bonds with just a baseballbat ;-)

Well, bear in mind that in THIS video you're watching me play after I've finished the game and am halfway through my second run. Go back and watch the first 3 parts and see how I fared the very FIRST time I played. I usually play Medium for my first time on a game, then up the difficulty for later runs. I don't like my first time to be INSANE, just enough of a challenge that I can manage without too much frustration and enjoy the story. These vids were mainly to show the game, not my skills.
