  • This song and some others from great singers such as Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh etc rightly put Jamaica on the center stage because people could understand the lyrics unlike the Jamaican reggae artists of today.......hard to understand them and they are not as popular as stars of the years gone by. Had the new generation been the pioneers of reggae, it wouldn't have been as popular. Kudos to the flagship generation who helped put Jamaica on the world map!

  • Not quite the land of my birth but I lived there for much of my childhood from the age of a few months. Haven't heard this in decades. Thanks for posting it! Reminds me of my mom, my childhood, summers spent at Runaway Bay, and the excitement of waiting for the announcement of the winner of Festival Song Competition on Independence day. Eric Donaldson won in 1976 and 77 with this song and with "Sweet Jamaica" which is also on youtube and he won several other times before and after that as well.

  • my family is from jamaica and i recently went back. it is a beautiful country, but the gang violence has gripped people over there in fear. its a damn shame because the country is beautiful and people are so friendly. i hope they get rid of the gang violence so jamaica goes back to the beautiful, warm hearted country that it was to be. if god ever put paradise on earth it is certainly jamaica.
