super mario galaxy does disappoint hardcore players in terms of exploration. it's pretty linear, that's the only part of the game that sucked for me. that, and the first 60 stars are extremely easy to get.

other than that, though, it's a great game, and playing it made me really badly want a wii, lol

bioshock:excellent and scary fps.

the orange box:best deal in videogame history.

rock band:kickasss party game.

god of war 2:one of the best action adventure games that i played.

crysis:great technical fps with stunning graphics. world in conflict:dont know ive never played it but it has to be good.

call of duty 4: great multiplayer mode and intense singleplayer but way too short.

forza motorsport 2:same as world in conflict.

halo 3 : same as cod4

uncharted was amazing...i'm still playing it, you can't say it sucks if you haven't played it, it combines platforming and third person shooting with a great story in one!!! it's awesome!!!! i've beat it 6 times!!!

Woah there are way to many 360 fanboys here. I am sorry guys but Super Mario Galaxy did fantastic, I loved it and so did others. It deserved game of they year 2007. To Waffle Boy, I can name 6 gateways, the Fountain, the Bedroom, the Kitchen, the Garden, the Engine Room and the Terrace. Super Mario Galaxy pawns Halo 3, Bioshock and all those noob Xbox 360 games and by the time Xbox 360 starts it's good games people all have Wii. OWNED!!

Good news for Nintendo and Nintendo fans like me! Its games like this which makes us (some of us) come back for more. It hasnt got a short life span its easy to learn the controls. At first I was amazed by the graphics but the controls was the most natural thing about it. A very enjoyable game that doesn't lack anything in my opinion.

I find it odd that SMG gets so much praise in the States, but is mysteriously less popular in its home country, Japan. Around the time of its release, PS3 sales in Japan exceeded sales of the Wii. What is even more odd is that Japan doesn't have the same problem with Wii shortages that the States do.

I haven't heard anything about sales since I found that out, however. Do a search on google and see for yourself.

I didn't say that it wasn't doing well. It is doing well. It's Nintendo, I don't think they'll ever do horrible in Japan, compare the gamecube to here and Japan and you'll see what I mean. I did say, however, that's become seemingly less popular in Japan recently. That doesn't mean it's not doing well, just not as well as usual.

fair enough but I watched this game in action for about an hour and didn't see much different from the last few mario games (like Sunshine or the other 3D styles). The gravity thing is a gimmick that's been used by a ton of games before and much more fun in Prey. Spherical worlds is just another way to do 3D scrolling except..WOW, you're on a ball! Big deal. I'm not really impressed by any of these Mario updates in galaxy.

Gamespot has really been weird over the past years.They gave good games like Mass Effect,Kane and Lynch bad scores for what they should have gotten.They gave Kane and Lynch 6.5 and everywhere else 9 and I think its around a ten.they are making a movie based on that game.Must be good to make it a movie right?Mass Effect got only 8.5 but critics and reviewers gave it 9 and 10

This was quite a surprise to me. I hoped Galaxy would have won, but I didn't expect it. That's because Gamespot (nowadays) usually prefers mature/shooter games, rather than cheery platformers etc.

But anyways, great thing it won. I've played Galaxy alot, and I personally think that it might be the best platform game ever made. So funny, bizarre and atmospheric.

SMG saved alot of dying gaming aspects. The Wii had yet to come out with an awesome game that could compete with other game platforms. The platform genre was continuing to struggle to stay alive. And the Mario franchise had yet to create a game that could match Mario 64, with other Nintendo franchises on the Wii showing some dissapointment like Link and Metroid. SMG was the savior to all three of these things.

Owning many games on the nominated list, I am actually glad Galaxy won GOTY. Bioshock, COD4, even halo 3 were great games, but Galaxy proved that games other than FPS are amazing too and in a world leaning toward mature titles, Galaxy proved fun is meant for everyone!
