@Coolyfett There is a live performance of 5 star singing this on the BBC in 1983 somewhere on youtude. Lead singer is about 14. I have listened to both and while they are both good, it appears that Bobby is singing along with Denise as he copies her vocal style and certain phrasings. For a long time, as a BET viewer, I thought that it was a New Edition cover. After becoming an avid Five Star (after moving to England for three years) this song went from being my least favourite to being one of my favourites by them. I used to play this quite a bit during the summer days of 1986 at the height of Five Star mania.

I believe New Edition did it first on their self titled debut release. They just never actually came out with this song as a single. I LOVE N.E. but I like 5 Star's version better. Five Star recorded "Hide and Seek" first!! Then New Edition did their cover of it. The writers of the song are British; Gary Bell and Anne Dudley. They were both released in the same year, and the Five Star version was not a hit in the UK. But later that year, the New Edition version was released in the US (1984), that's why you all are thinking that New Edition did it first, because it was the first version that you heard in the US.

I always liked this version better then New Edition's. I thought the song was a better fit for Five Star. But I never knew there was a video. 5 Star was big in the US for a minute, but never as big as a lot of other "less deserving" artists. Luxury of Life is still one of my fave 80's cd's.

Fivestar recroded and released it first (note that this video came out in the summer of 84 and New Edition was released in September of 1984 and they never released a single for Hide & Seek!)
