Have loved this song ever since I got the LinB cds years ago (plus the fact that I am obsessed with Mike Rupert!). Stephen was kind enough to give me a copy of the sheet music & I use it a lot for auditions & sing it at the Piano Bar where I work. It's great because very few know it! I sang a section of it at the MAC awards last year. I was told one of the reasons it was cut was because the song was a little too jaded & they wanted a more positive song for Pippin to sing in that part of the show
i remember first hearing this song on the "lost in boston" cd back in the 90's and it blew my mind that this song was never resurrected and put into any later show written by schwartz...it's such a catchy song and i'm sure that there are so many who would love to hear this song if they only knew it existed...someone should tell seth rudetsky to play this on his sirius channel and bring it back to life!!
Now that I've found this video you'll have 10,000 hits in a couple of weeks. Pippin has been a massive part of my life for the past 36 years. Thank you so much for finding this - is it available for download anywhere? While I would love this song regardless of anything as it's a part of Pippin, it's actually very very good. Stephen Schwartz is my hero. Wicked, Pippin, Godspell - the guy is amazing. Thanks for finding this. Seriously.
Wow, this has been my favorite musical since i was 6 years old and i never knew of this song! I guess I grew up with extrordinary, so for me it makes more sense... because of the angsty issues faced in that song that keep running through the musical and drive the changes pippin keeps making to his choice of lifestyle... this song sounds too... happy... to be pippin at that point in time.. but what do i know? hehe
Great timing. I'm staging this at my school this fall, and I've always had a fondness for slipping in cut songs (!). I like this *better* than "Extrodinary," although we can't be sure if this is the arrangement that would have gone in the original show, can we? It's an exciting song. Thanks!
I have always preferred this song to Extraordinary....and also I love Michael Rupert so that is a plus!

The replacement makes sense - especially as trinb explains it. Awesome recording though - Michael Rupert is astounding, even in his later years.

Great find!!!!! I think it should have been included, along with Extraordinary. But that's just hopeful thinking.

Extraordinary works better in the show because it is about Pippin and this song (although excellent) is about Pippin and Catherine.
