Although I've commented before on this video (and was very complimentary at that time), I now think that this is one of the best steam loco videos on YT. The sound mixing, and the unbroken shot is worthy of an award ... where are the Guardian media people when you need them! First class cinematography. Would love to see it in HD!

This gorgeous video would have been faultless if it had been The Union of South Africa or another A4 Pacific but the 56394 hits means its one ofthe most impressive steam videos around but an A4 would have been asking too much i suppose.

Yep, about 90-95% of that is steam if not more,

all the exhaust steam from the pistons is blasted up the chimney to create extra draught fr the fire

As the train gets closer the fireman looks to put a round on and shut the doors, this means there is no secondary air so that the gases in coal do not burn as efficiently thus the black smoke is produced, before that it looks like all the gases have been burnt off and the exhaust is white, which is mainly if not just about completely steam.

Talk about dramatic! I like the low angle and the leaden sky, and the way the sound gradually builds. There's rather a lot of camera noise (or something) but that's a small quibble. Holding the zoom is inspired, though I guess you don't use that trick that often. 5 stars deserved.
