I have two Blue Stumpies, boy and girl litter mates; mother was a working dog from a farm out Coonabarrbran way. For those outside Australia who don't know, Australian Cattle Dogs ie Heelers are a different breed from Blue Stumpies. Though they have the same origins, the two breeds went their separate ways at some point. Blue Stumpies have no tan markings and are a square dog by comparison to the Heeler. Stumpies are also longer in the leg, have higher set ears like the Dingo.
We adopted a beautiful stumpy from a rescue group. He is the most gorgeous little man and he always wants affection and cuddles. He is so cute on the beach too when he gets his sniff on- his nose takes control lol. They are such beautiful dogs and I would recommend them highly as I am so lucky to have my beautiful boy!
@GiJordyn No, stumpy tail cattle dogs are born with no tail, they are not a different breed, just a variation of the breed, like red cattle dogs, all the same breed just different variations
@inkmetal85 That's not correct, the Australian breed associations will tell you differently. Just by looking at the dogs side by side you can see they are different breeds. Yes they have the same origins, but so do all dogs and look how different they all are today! Blue Stumpies have no tan markings, are either all blue or all red speckled - are born with a stumpy tail or one no longer than 5" - they have a different body shape, are square, different skull shape, high set ears like the Dingo.
i had a blue cattle for 17 years! he was beautiful but towards the end of his life he became blind and deaf =( He used to be so hypo and happy running every where! RIP Bucky Boy =)
Reminds me of when i was young- i had my dog "Butch" find a trail of bacon that i had rubbed ALL along our hallway, carpet and dining room area for him to find. My mom wasn't too thrilled about the grease stains ALL over the house- reminds me of the good ol days- Good dog Bandit!! He should be completely ready to Go for EASTER! lol
Nice pup! My girl is 5 months, and i have her lay down and stay. I then walk far ahead throw a small bit of hot dog in the distance where she cant see, return to her and let her do her nose work. She improved very fast!
Best dogs in the world! I'm sure you'll have tons of fun with him!
Did you drop dog biscuits all over the yard, for Bandit to find? If you did, he is a very clever boy, for finding them. By the way, you have a very nice, big yard and you live in very quite, safe area. Thanks for sharing!
@hugwildlife I left him inside the house and placed hotdog bits in the yard in places I could remember quickly to make sure he got them all. He did, didn't take him long at all. 3rd time ever doing nose work like that...
