For all the audio engineers out there this is a perfect example of the "Good Rule": Good guitarist+good guitar+good amp = great recording despite the fact this is in a living room with the amp next to the wall and a teddy bear holding up the mic into what looks like either a behringer or mackie interface!
i have a Gibson it is a old one it was my granddad to he past a way then to went to my dad he as past now so i have it my told me is the Gibson Les Paul Jimmy Page #1 Custom Authentic VOS 59 RI
or soming i dont like playing it som i play the one i have now
I can't believe the tone coming out of that guitar -- it sounds better than just about anything -- no matter the price -- that I have to date. Nice sound.
watched this vid and went and bought a 339 glad i did its a great guitar play it every day my strat gets neglected sometimes and been my best since the eighty;s. thanks mate!
@bluesboydude I guess the word 'similar' can carry different meanings. For a solid carved maple top I'd pay $400 more. Resale is better too which is always what I consider chiefly. I can afford a ES339 right now but I'm gonna hold out for the CS336. More versatile and better resale 'sold' me :)
@louisianaBluesBoy CS336 has a solid carved maple top versus the 339 which is a laminated top. The 336 is a little more expensive because of the better components but also has more versatile sounds. The 339 sounds great at what it does but the 336 can do 339 and more. I'm CS336 all the way.
there are different neck options for the 339...the smaller is best, much better playabilty...definitely recommend this guitar..but, play a few of them and look them over, they are not all created equal..stay away from the monday morning and friday afternoon guitars, quality varies.

@GregsGuitars Yep, that's true. But their are a couple of soft shuffles with the tapping of those sticks I don't know what you call them but I think it would sound great for what you are playing here. Sounds great.
@smithcory5 Its simply a ii-V vamp over Gm7 / C7 (i.e. the ii and V chords in F), so technically, it's in F. You can use Gm pentatonic throughout, as Greg does here (with some Gm9 / Gm11 arpeggios thrown in - try FM7 and Dm7 arps). Hope this helps you!
Hey Greg, Nice guitar work. Can you tell me the two loop cords that you start with? I'm getting ready to buy a new guitar...not 335 or 339. Which do you think is better?
I'm considering trading in my Les Paul Studio and upgrading to this. What do you think about the 339? Would you recommend it? Would you recommend it over the 335 as well? What appeals to me is the versatility, as I play both jazz and rock.
@taildragger53 that sound good to my ears then! i find my slim tapper les paul to be a bit too thin and i don't want to go all out with the 59 option thanks so much for your reply
@MrVirusSnake The ES 339 is superb looking in any colour. I've had trouble getting used to the neck but it doesn't mean others would.
In terms of quality? Well, i have a LP Custom i got in 1980, still almost new in its case because it is of sentimental value. To me,(i can hear the booing already) there's NO comparison to a Gibson made 30-40 yrs back (e.g PAF p'ups, bone nut etc) BUT today the ES 339 or CS 336 is the closest you'll get to a 335..for the money.
@taildragger53 well all my guitars get a luthier cut bone nut and bareknuckle pick ups at some point. thanks for your valuable input any comment on the so much cited ''memphis tone circuit''? i do not expect a vintage gibson in terms of sound quality i just want custom shop worthy construction and nice playing feel. i just found about this baby yesterday and the price is more than right for a gibson custom shop
@MrVirusSnake Oh yes, the Memphis Tone Circuit does kick in well. The tone control knobs are perfectly set and just the right size. You do acheive a very clear sound at low volume.
I personally think that one should take time choosing the right amp to go with the ES339.
If you have the right combination then you be pleased.
I wish you luck. You won't be disappointed for the money spent. I have the 339 in Tobacco Sunburst. Looks gorgeous.
Agreed. There's something definitely magical added to the tone with the larger body of the 335. Maybe I've not played the right one, but the 339 seems to lack that, but also lack the girth of a Les Paul.
About to borrow one, though, so maybe I'll check back in.
I'm also partial to the 345. Love the split inlays, and even the Varitone. That's on the "bucket list" of guitars I need to own someday (along with about a thousand others).
@rhykko77 I do NOT think that was a mistake... i'm pretty sure that was intentional how he went out of key and back into it... I could be wrong, but i feel quite certain that was intentional
Im thinking of buying this guitar but i don't have the money. I currently have an epiphone sg and i'm learning how to play. also i want to get this sound should i get this guitar or keep the one I have, Greg? or any one that can give advice.

PeterBullOlsson 11 months ago
Sorry which one do you think is better the 335 or 339
markmenefee 11 months ago
@markmenefee The 339 is a slimmer body, less like an acoustic, and more like an electric if you will, also the chord plugs in on the side.
However, on the 335 the body's wider and the chord plugs into the top of the body. Personal preference really.

jakekn3 1 year ago
@jakekn3 The ES -339 is really a cross between a Les Paul & the ES-335. A cheaper version of the 335.
The sound leans more towards a Les Paul. Got one in 2009 on impulse.
Had a few problems with the neck. Les Pauls tend to have comfier necks.
The ES 335 is alot more expensive BUT it's a superior guitar.(just my opinion here)
taildragger53 8 months ago
@taildragger53 did you have a 59 neck or a 30/60 neck on your 339

It's still quite a hefty neck.
