  • Rather an interesting perspective when considering how truly exotic this technology would have been when Ian Fleming wrote about James Bond's first use of such gear in 1953 for his novel, "Live and Let Die."

  • Scuba gear was invented by the British back in 1620 by Englishman Cornelius Drebbel. Cousteau was born 1910.

  • @MyMerlin1 Maybe you can't read, but the title does say "First tests of the Aqua Lung", which refers to an open-circuit SCUBA which was developed by Emile Gagnan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau in 1943. Other gear was invented before this, the rebreather, and yes it was by Cornelius, but he was Dutch. Sorry.
