What if after the procedure you wake up as a different person? What if the old person dies and a new person is born? The suicidal person got what he wanted and the new person gets to live inside that body.
I always get confused by this treatment. It is very ironic to me. It is because, the heart is a muscle and it keeps us alive. While ECT is a treatment, it puts the heart in a fast pace, one that we exhibit while doing stringient activity. While the anesthetic is in effect while treatment and the patient is unconcious, wouldn't the fast pace heart caused by the electrical currents make the patient technically "conscious"? Hmmmm...
Lifted my mood but there are still things I need to work on I call them bad habits but I get told off for that lol like not leaving my home/ ward, self neglect etc but a lot of this is to do with confidence that I need to rebuild it will just take time but the absence of the depression will make that battle easier xx
As a patient who has just received eleven treatments of ect, the last one being three days ago I would just like to say what a brave girl to not only go through the treatment at a young age but to share it with the world to show and disprove some of the beliefs of a lot of people. I would say that it has changed my life for the better but I am still currently in hospital and it's also not a miracle cure there are certain factors that I need to work on as both an in/out patient the treatment lif
@louisedevlin2409 Most mental illnesses can be cured by only you. Psychiatry is a bunch of BS, no offence. You just need a victory. I was under depression for a year and had gone without treatment. My only treatment was my family and friends as well as GOD. You just need to realize how special you are. Perhaps all you need is for someone to tell you that you are loved. ECT treatment is only temporary. It will not help you further in your life. It wont solve your problems. GOD BLESS!
"ndependentwoman"—you sound quite hostile, judgemental & insulting and seem to think only your opinions are the right answers. I'd hate to be a psych patient under your care!!! Hasn't your "many, many, many" years of experience taught you any compassion and understanding or opened your mind at all? You seem quite insecure having to state over and over again what you do and how long you've done it. Just the fact you choose to type in all caps says a lot about you.
THIS IS A RESULT OF POOR PARENTING-NO DISCIPLINE WHEN THE CHILD WAS YOUNG.It sounds more like this girl lacks self-control, ie., striking out, angry periods, and yelling at her mom. If she learned that all actions have consequences-she wouldn't act out.
Mental illness's are biochemical and it can be seen by brain imaging techniques such as an MRI, SPECT, PET an CT scans. Normal healthy individuals do not have the same brain function as people with mental illness such as depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia, and obsessive compulsive disorder. People like you need to be more educated and not give opinions unless you have ALL the facts.
Please take anatomy and physiology and some psychiatry classes and then maybe you will realize you comments can be harmful for anyone who is struggling with a mental illness. Until then keep your ignorant opinions to yourself!
@hlpinghands -Let's walk through this again. I HAVE BEEN AN ER/ PSYCH NURSE FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS-RN,BSN. I have worked in the nursing profession for the past 24 years. Yes I have worked with adult and teen psych patients in locked and unlocked wards. It has been my EXPERIENCE that several factors; physical, emotional, and yes poor parenting strategies all contribute to acting out behavior. (cont'd)
@hlpinghands - Perhaps you should get out of the books and into the real world of psychiatric patients. As a medical STUDENT, per your post, you base your words on book knowledge and suffer from lack of REAL WORLD LIFE EXPERIENCES. I will place my 24 years, 10 years in ER/Psych, of nursing experience- 12hour shifts 3-4 days a week-against your pathetic THEORIES, any day of the week! YOU ARE STILL WET BEHIND THE EARS YOUNG MAN, TALK BACK TO ME AFTER YOU'VE HAD SOME ACTUAL LIFE EXPERIENCE, LOL!
While the masses have no idea of how they are reaped and used to pick up spirits using electromagnetic technology, the people are turn to this. No surprise that Benny Hinn uses similar technology and spy handlers even worse. Especially when they pass a spy around between the trade offs they use wireless ECT also, changes the moods, memory and ID.Details that would land most in jail for revealing. This ones on you usa!
I suffer from severe depression among other mental issues and I think ECT should be more of an option for people that are miserable. I missed out on so much because of depression and I wish doctors would have recommended this.
@butters7007 - Do you know why you are depressed? Were there certain events that took place in your life; sexual abuse, parent abandonment, and physical abuse? I've long suspected people who suffer from depression have unresolved childhood issues that should be addressed prior to ANY
@ndependentwoman you don't have any knowledge of human physiology or experience with mentally ill people do you? I am a medical student who is currently doing my mental health clinical rotation in a psychiatric hospital. At this hospital they do ECT and I've seen it work for many people. It is not the first choice for people with depression. It is only done for severely ill people after psychotherapy and medications have not worked. People who choose to do ECT also go through a
physical and mental examination to see if they are good candidates for the procedure. While it is true that some people experience a period depression or a more serious condition because of traumatic events in their life. However, on-going severe depression is something completely different. It is NOT something they can help themselves! It is NOT because of 'bad parenting"!
this is not a mom ...is a monster ..her daughter doesn't seems to be a normal person also after the ect...that poor girl will never have a normal life...
