  • Wow he's sound a lot like Merle Travis... only more intense.

  • alot of djangos style in his playing

  • DID ANYONE TAB CHORDS OR LEAD

  • Will someone help me please? I'm learining to thumb pick like he's doing with my pick tuckerd under my index finger, and i have long-ish nails. The problem is the part i play with my thumb i can't hear, i have a gretsch like him and a nice amp, i just can not hear my thumb parts? Help!?

  • I hear a lot of Tommy Emmanuel in his playing. Or maybe it's the other way around. Or maybe it's just Chet Atkins in both their playing lol.

  • .....and, just when I thought I was getting pretty good. Damn!

  • I'd remove my scrotum with a blunt pencil to be able to play like him...mother of god!

  • One Cool Cat, that pick flip crazy

  • este wey es el chingon

  • brian for president...j'ai rien d'autre à ajouter.

  • Once cool, always cool...

  • Superb! Love it . . .

  • Awesome, awesome guitar playing!

  • the people who dislike this must be jealous

  • The stuff of legends...

  • He's one of the best.

  • This guy is just too good. He's the only guy I've ever seen put so much zing into jazz.

  • "I´ll slow down a rockabilly fingerpicking...IF I CAN"....what a SHOWOFF!!!!

  • @TheEKCT

It's hard to slow down on a song that goes fast.

but yes he is a show off, but at least he has the right to be one ;)

  • @vangelbang

    True true :)

  • @TheEKCT No... once playing a style becomes natural, individual licks from that style begin to blend together. Slowing down means thinking about the notes, and the point of practice is to develop muscle memory and familiarity with the fretboard so you don't have to think about the notes.

  • @ZomBLord I disagree. As a lead player, I have found that I improvise the best when I actually think ahead a bit about the next phrases. If I just let my fingers do all the work, I fall into a rut, playing the same phrases that I have been playing for years now. When I think ahead about the notes, the solo comes out fresh each time.

  • @TheExiledTexan Phrases, yes. But individual notes are hard to think through, and play slowly. I'm sure you experienced early on what I'm talking about, sightreading a song from classical notation or tablature, playing one note at a time, and being unable to hear the song behind the notes.

I think through phrases too, but it's always, E minor run at the third neck position, or play such-and-such a pattern down a scale; it's never the notes. Which is why it's hard to slow down.

  • @ZomBLord Oh, now I get what you were saying. I thought we were talking within the context of scales. Yes, I agree; without scales, I would be unable to play fast, and thinking through the notes would not be an option.

  • is that a gretsch?

  • @hisuky Yes it is a Gretsch Nashville with a custom paint job. They do sell that exact model though. Setzer rarely plays anything other than Gretsch. Come to think of it, the only other guitar I've ever seen him play was a Gibson L-5 on the song 'Lonely Avenue'. At least I think it was an L-5. Sure looked like one.

  • Edit:

    0:14 - 2:10 whoa.

    1:28 - 1:37 ...!?!?!!

  • 0:14 - 2:10 whoa.

    2:18 - 3:17 ...!?!?!!

  • Im am tapping my foot

  • great lesson, if ur not ready to learn by hearing then ur not ready for this stuff at all!

  • What impresses me most is that he plays like... THAT and he does it like he's doing... just anything. O.O Maybe one day I'll be half as good as him. \o/

  • They just don't get any better than Brian. And he makes it loof effortless. Damn!

  • Country boys can survive!!! Get down!!!

  • back to you, gretschen and brian

  • Just 2 good

  • He got the touch

  • 1:51 he messes up lol, yeah im a jackass lol. He is amazingly good though!!

  • im a metal guitarist by nature, but i freakin love listening to this guy

  • When I see it, I think I've a lot of work to have a tenth of his talent... Thx Mr. Setzer ;-)

  • This man is my hero.

  • He's just to good.

  • Nearly anyone can learn to metal shred -- but to be able to play like this, few can do. This stuff is physically difficult and MUSICALLY insane. Coming up with melodies and rhythms that breathtaking goes far beyond sheer chops; it enters its own special domain. Amazing.

  • I tried to play like this. and failed miserabley.

  • 2,733 likes, 199 dislikes

199 Pople think rap is music. Dolts.

  • I consider myself schooled.

  • I'd like having 1% of his talent --'

  • it's SOO relaxing to hear him play a bit Djangoesque

  • ahah i like how he says "ehm.. if i can!!" at 2:18 :)

  • OH MY GOD I WANT TO PLAY LIKE THIS!!!!!! I need to break out of my thrash guitar playing.

  • I guess you just have to feel it, like speaking another language or even a different dialect of one you know... It might take me years but, "B" , what you do is allow the audience to feel it and a person just can't stand still when you play. Pretty powerful gift you have! Come back to Portland, Oregon soon.

  • I dont get it...why is it when a great guitar player plays, it can make some people feel lousy like it hurts their self-esteem?

Great guitar players inspire me to play guitar more, I love it, I live it...I never saw it as some sort of competition or a desire to become a rock star (not that I would a very good rock star anyway).

    Why do you?

    Why do you?

  • We need a Setzer and Rev horton heat album !!!!

  • Can anyone tell me any tracks where i'd hear that kind of jazz guitar? I love the sound, i've no idea where to start looking though! Any tracks by Brian Setzer or anyone else

  • @MrNoodleMeister Well some good places to look are George Benson's guitar playing, Django Reinhardt (the father of gypsy jazz), John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery and Charlie Christian.

  • @hendrixkixas Cool, thanks for your suggestions, i'll give them a try. Cheers!

  • Brian is great!!!! It makes me realize:

    1) I'll never be a great guitar player

    2) I have lousy hair ( I'm going bald) hahaha

You will always be a "Stray Cat" as far as I'm concerned.

    This is really great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:36 You can tell he's pretty happy with himself....

  • fuck you

  • this is my favorite video of all time.

  • Thanks Brian! Great lesson on how to kick everybody elses a-s-s on guitar. You've inspired us to toss our instruments directly into the trash and take up something like...accounting instead.

    Well done brother.

  • Dreamy! He's so amazing! Please check out the song I wrote as a tribute to Setzer and the Cats. I reference 15 of their songs in it. It's called "This Kitten is Smtten"

  • damn that boy can play the hell out of that box.....

  • Ya THIS WAS A GREAT LESSON !! I learned a few things ...like how to walk over to my guitar and SMASH IT !!!! I am so tired of sucking.

  • I remember coming out of Mabel's in 1987 or 1988 in Champaign, Illinois and there was this dude with big yellow hair. Guess who it was? Awesome playing. Is Urbana home? Thanks for the music.

  • @jpmc2000 No , Brian comes from Cardiff , Wales. We are very proud of him here. His real name is Owen Llewelyn

  • 1:38 "look ma, no hands!"

  • wow! ive got some practicing to do i guess.

  • idem @dodgyserb

  • this should be titled, setzerbilly.

  • Increibleeeeeeeee / Awesomeeeeeeeeeee

  • Hey Setzer die hards! I wrote a Setzer tribute song (a la Gene & Eddie) called This Kitten is Smitten. In it, I reference 15 Setzer/Cats songs. How many can you find?

    youtube.com/watch?v=TJ3wMk8lQjQ

  • can someone please tell me what the last chord is (at 2:48)? cheers

  • @dodgyserb looks like a b7#9 to me, hes using F# for bass instead of B.

  • jazzy rockabilly! good stuff

  • My 4 y.o. daughter loved your (Brian Setzer) playing, just jumped and danced

  • I like ho he just leans back and looks the other way as if nothings happening

  • Why does Brian always keep me guessing when it comes to guitar playing? Just when I thought I can keep up, he pulls another trick out of his hat.

  • are those magnatrons?

  • @headwhop26 nope they're supertrons

  • @scottydoesntno coolio

  • that was no lesson.. just pure pwnage

  • @pillutimati hahah so true

  • On man. Creatively, he does in one video more than a million guitar players do in a million other videos. So many musical approaches in one solo. Country, blues and jazz in one perfect bland. Unbelievable.

  • Chuck norris can walk on water but this guy can punch him in the face!!!

  • i've been playing guitar for 3 years, but now i realised that i'm doin it wrong!!

  • I can't play like this.

  • I'll I can see is fucking awesome pin striping MMmmmmm.....

  • @Chadsxxy Thanks, I laughed at that (because I still suck, too)

  • Shit. I gotta go defrost my eyes and ears now... That was just too fucking cool.

  • GO CAT GO!!

  • I see a pickup switch and volume control on that Gretsch....Could this be a Setzer prototype hot rod??

  • how can anyone dislike this??

  • I just burned all my guitars after watching this.

  • :D He's wearing a Horton Heat T-Shirt.. Love it!

  • @abcfuckind um, that's Norton.

  • Ouvi falar muito do Brian e realmento é fora de série.;-)

  • @BANGERS68 I absolutely love his playing as well, but I certainly wouldn't work his chub over it. You must be getting more out of this than the rest of us I'm thinking .

  • @bigrigJim

ha ha ha roflmao..haa haa haa like it man..

dude you just cracked me right up..

    brilliant

  • FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!! (ON 1:30)

  • Brian is a really fabulous player, but I wouldn't really say this was a lesson. Saying, "I kinda do somethin' like this..." and then playing some insanely difficult part has not proved instructional to me. Sorry Brian!

  • Felt like I was watching SpongeBob Square Pants lol :P... But really awesome guitar playing! I love it.

  • tabs?

  • I realize how difficult it would be to play this way and do what he is doing. That being said, I find this type of playing almost as boring as metal. Its just to wow people in my opinion. Its the same thing with shredding and finger tapping. Its not about the music, its all about the technique and the difficulty

  • i tried learning this style once, but i couldnt quite grasp the concept enough, and my coordination isnt good enough for it yet. Maybe in a few more years.

  • i love the pin striping on his guitar

  • Setzer, můj velký kytarový vzor :-)

  • opened for brian setzer a few years ago, dude had a big pile of coke on a table in the dressing room! funny stuff! dude sure can play

  • FANTASTIC, also the pinstriping on that guitar is beautiful, im not expecting anyone to know who did it but if anyone does, let me know lol

  • @SpitBucket17X Are you sure it couldn't be some kind of signature thingy? They sell an exact copy at my local musicstore.

  • @Tjorvz1 yeah thats true but im sure sombody did that desing for him then they made copies of it

  • brian SETZER pace ...and we all cant follow !

  • WOW at 1:30

  • makes you wonder if its all improv or if hes learnt the whole thing before =s ...prob improv...how do i get that good ?!

i don't even play that good in my sleep :(

  • 194 people that hate life!

  • Eh..194 dislikes? Why?!!

  • @LostInCrates they was looking some Lady Gaga vid or something

  • i hate you. :-)

  • Homer, it's Setzer... - No I believe it's Selzer!

  • God i love watching this guy play guitar. He really takes the talent/guitar to a whole different level. Could watch him about a thousand times!

  • That's just not even fair...

  • i am pretty familiar with Setz, but is there an all instrumental album out there? i'd like to listen to some good rockabilly picking like this.

  • awesome go Brian!!

  • Kool Norton T shirt. Oh and You kill that git-fiddle!!!!

  • 194 people threw their guitars out the window after watching this.

  • @nuke97 Looks like it's 197 now. How on God's green earth could someone EVER give Setzer a thumbs down?

  • @gldeluca You know, this video doesn't really provide a lesson ! it's more like a punishment for not practicng enough ha ha

  • @nuke97 I just put the guitar in the bin.

  • @nuke97 that in itself is a lesson!

  • @nuke97 It still teaches you a lesson, though.

  • @nuke97 sometimes thats the best kinda lesson you can get!

  • @nuke97 195 :-)

  • brian is awesome-a little of chet and gene vincent. lets see a shredder do something that cool. its too bad he is one of the few keeping Rockabilly and Big band swing alive these days-its great music. Instead Lady CACA is what sells-ugh!

  • 1:06 - what the heck...!!!

  • @dru42or3

I would like that tab because this seems complicated.

    e-mail: jokerluvzharleyq@yahoo.com

  • Good!

  • was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a tab or score to the guitar chord part he's playing? i really want to improve my jazz comping.
