  • damn he has used a shit ton of space on his computer

  • @ubersaber2 no wait that the thumb drive nevermind forget what i said

  • is that meter to the left of your home screen for your cpu work load and your RAM workload?

good vid btw :) but what wil the ready boost actually speed up becasue im thinking of buying some memory sticks and plugging them in the back of my pc then leaving them there to be dedicated to ready boost :)

  • how do you undo readyboost?

  • where can i download it? can you give me a link!

  • @jdc10 It comes with Windows! Wel dooh

  • can readyboost help for playing games?

  • @ferdaws2000, Yes. It's just extra RAM.

  • @sqeker09 not necessarily, windows only allows you to use 4 GB on your USB, but still you would have a whopping 12 GB of RAM :D

  • With ReadyBoost, you can use the space on your USB/Flash card to act as extra RAM. So if you have 4GB of RAM(like me) then adding 2GB of ReadyBoost space is like having 6GB of space! If you have a computer, like a netbook, that's slow, ReadyBoost can definitely help, big time. Hope this helps :)

  • @Tokillornottokill2 So basicly what your saying is my laptop has 8gb of ram and i can use my 8gb USB drive and have 16gb of ram? Heheh

  • OK, let me clear things up: Your RAM(Random Access Memory) is basically the muscles of your computer. It writes data to it, which lets your computer find things faster; the more Ram, the faster the speed. But Sometimes you just don't have enough RAM. If you're playing a game that requires intense 3D graphics, Multiplayer action, etc., then all of that space gets used up. That's when your computer starts getting sluggish. Ran out of space :( see next comment.

  • how much memory on pc.

    Please use ready boost.

It helps to save your HDD and memory life time~

    lol lol

  • Writing pagefiles to the HD doesn't have to compete with flash memory, it has to compete with usb2.0 bus.

  • if I use an 8 gig sd card on a 4 gig ram would it help?

  • @111arian111 External Hard Drives are considered Hard Drives and you cannot use ReadyBoost with the Hard Drives; however, there's a registry hack to force either an external or internal hard drive as ReadyBoost. The downside is the hard drives take longer than flash memory. Flash memory = Fast; Hard Drive = Slow

  • I have windows vista too and it realy works, well it's not like adding RAM and you wont feel much performance in games, but it opens folders faster :)

  • why does it use up more ram?

  • i have 8 gigs and its 2000mhz, is tht enough?

  • 16 gb sd card = AWESOME and you cant even see its in there unlike a flashdrive

  • @MtnDewIsGood4You Get eboostr watch my video on howto crack it! eboostr 4 is waay better the readyboost u actaully see hthe difference

  • da fuck up.

  • Lol I just set it up with a 4 gb flash drive Now my pc should be unstoppable?

  • @Yuanbaca no not unstoppable but you will not get any memory errors thats for sure

  • @realflow100 lmfaoo hes an idiot dont wast yur time

  • Note* With Windows 7, Do not use the slider, Windows 7 has improved on ready boost greatly, it allows for no no limit boost, as in Vista the limit was around 4 gigs. So instead of the slider, there will be a circle to Dedicate this drive to ready boost, which will allow for even more of a performance boost

  • @mooman219 There is a slider aswell

  • This can be done without readyboost on memory sticks and sd cards, it just takes a second without it.

This is good because hard drives have moving parts, this can mean slow page filing.

tbh Linux does swap/page filing much more efficiently than Windows, so it's even more fast for when you're doing it for SD cards and memory sticks.

  • can you use 2 or more flash drives for RB at once???

  • @TkMToM1993 On Vista you can't. On 7 it's possible.

  • @Steve123458 yea i got 3 running atm hahaha (im on windows 7)

  • Comment removed

  • what recorder??//

  • i use a 1gb memory stick as swap on ubuntu, it doesn't make much difference, linux is a lot faster than windows

  • @lowtone10 linux software is too simple,so simple it doesn't even do it's job right,it will take another 10 years till linux will be good enough or maybe more

  • I have a 2GB will it be good?

  • it depends if it is a cheap one like a freebie or a expensive one like a kingston etc.

  • @TheLedGuitarist Ok thanks I've tried it out and it is great! :D

  • hello, I want to know how you remove this option to make the system faster with the pen drive

  • hey is it similar to installing a new ram card??? caz ma ram is only 2gb (which is not enough to play crysis i guess) i can only upgrade ma ram upto 4gb which willl cost me 60$. but if i buy a 8gb flash its cheaper but is it the same result as installing a new ram? can i play new games wit it.

  • A 8Gb ready boost would be like 1GB extra ram

  • no.

  • no because your not actually installing ram

its just using the usb for write cache

it may be possible however i havent tried yet tho

but it is definitely not the same as installing physical ram

  • @punkking89 In the past I tested a 2gig flash with 2 gigs of ram and loading a file folder with alot of pictures seemed about a sec faster. On the downside it seemed to knock off about 5 FPS in games. Get the 4 gigs of ram forget ready boost. Readyboost seems better if you only have a gig of ram.

  • it also works on premium vista.

  • Comment removed

  • they just need to drag Vista behind the barn and shoot it already....

but FYI ms said you should use one to three times your RAM size (like an 8 or 16gb flash)

  • yeah... just NUKE windows vista...

  • yes, its called DBAN your vista off hard drive and install 7 or xp XD

  • if you do this, will your flash drive need to be plugged in all the time?

  • no you can take it out and it wont do anything because its separate from your virtual memory and actual ram

im pretty sure its write cache or something like that

  • @mcsergey. Don't comment on videos if you don't even know what their about please?

  • Blah blah blah...

    The facts please!

    Where results of testing?

  • Is there a way to reverse the effect? Or the space used permanently reversed for efficiency? I have a 8G and I used 2G's on the performance but I can't figure out if it's possible to retrieve the space.

  • if u wanna recover the old settings.

    2 options,

    1. deleete the file it created in the root memory on ur pen.

    2. right click - properties - readyboost - "do not use readyboost" uncheak it, then u do it the REAL RECOMENDED way :)

  • You do not need ready boost to put the paging file on a SD.

  • can i use a mp3 memory??

  • yeah

  • yh ut it has to be plugged in all the time

  • Important info: Windows Readyboost is most effective when you have a small amount of RAM, primarily 512-1GB. If you have more than 2GB, it won't do much!!!!

  • You know, I have been using Vista for a few years, on two different laptops, and I have never seen a difference when using them with or without readyboost. So call me a bit suspicious about its capabilities.

  • It works with Home Premium too, not just Ultimate.

  • It even works with my basic =D

  • thanks!

  • Where can I get those battery and WLAN gadgets?

  • i have 4 gb ram do i need more ?

  • If you want, but install Windows 64BIT ;)

  • the more the merrier. the more the merrier, the more the ram more the speed ;).

  • Meh. The more the merrier. :P

But you have enough at 4GB, more is always better though.

  • no thats more than the reccommended amount

  • no..

  • @TheSpecialOneX14 not unless you are a herdcore gamer

  • @TheSpecialOneX14 I have a Asus laptop with 4 gb ram, and when i opened readyboost it said:

"Readyboost is not activated on this computer because the systems discpreferences are to high according to windows experience index. this computer don't need ReadyBoost." SO I don't think we'll need it ;)

  • I have to wonder, does anyone think I'll notice improvements on windows 7 if i use a collective of 5 gbs or readyboost usb devices? I already have 4 gbs of ram and the fastest possible storage device configs that i care to use.

  • ReadyBoost allows better performance when accessing files and what not because it puts less use on your memory, without it your PC would consume more memory. Windows always works in connection with the hard drive as well but because ReadyBoost takes advantage of a faster response it benefits from dual outcomes.

  • this confuses people, is ready boost ur ram or hard drive space :|

  • Neither. But it's more comparable to RAM. The CPU can send some data to the flash drive instead of the memory.

  • does ready boost still speed things up if you already have an SSD?

  • does this speed up ur computer? and if it does if use 1g from ur usb flashdrive is it like adding 1g of memory to ur computer?CAn anyone help me lol

  • It's not going to be RAM. The whole point of RB is to get your computer to stop writing to the HD. Because writing to the HD is slower than flash-based memory.

  • :O now i get it xD

  • then whats the point of it then? why not just us it as a flash rather thn hooking it up to the pc just so it can be extra hard drive space

  • This guy is hopeless. Readyboost is not used as if it were additional ram or a faster page file. People need to educate themselves.

  • All Readyboost does is pull commonly used files from flash memory, IF Vista decides it is faster. Flash memory has faster access times but slower throughbut than your hard drive.

    Limitations of Readyboost:

4GB max. usage regardless of your flash memory size.

Vista wipes and reloads this 4GB file every time you boot. This will add to hard drive churning when you boot. You are copying 4GB of data at roughly 25MB/sec. (I set mine to 1GB)

RB data file is encrypted, leading to additional slowdown.

  • Wonder why it does this... I'd compare the hashes of the files and see if they match, otherwise leave it. Perhaps Windows 7 already does this.

  • I have a 16GB thumbdrive, it's only a shame that Vista won't use all 16GB, it would seem it will only use 4GB at most unfortunately. If it used all 16GB, it could really stuff some data on there and actually be useful.

  • is there Adobe flash for 64bit version of windows Vista

  • im using a toshiba 4GB thumbdrive

    what can u say

  • tnx!

  • Thanks!

  • @tjasko1 i set the pagefile on (C) to 20 gigs lol!

  • @realflow100 thats just a waste of space your computer will only utilize 4gb at the most

  • @ihelpfull lol i never even put it that high that was a joke lol

  • @realflow100 LMFAO i would use that 20gb for porno's MAN

  • this is one of the coolest things ever! i love it

  • Thanks!

  • I am officially in love with windows Vista! I tried it with an ipod and I could get about 4gb of space!! I mean sure, I had to change the Ipod's registry a bit but it still worked! I love it!

  • iPods Registy? You just had to put it in disk mode... lol

  • No I meant without formatting it. I still want to be able to play music and stuff on it.

  • I've got Vista Premium 32-bit, with 3GB ram. I'm about to use windows readyboost, but do I really need it? Would it make a big difference for me?

Is this ReadyBoost primarily for 64-bit operating systems since they require more ram?

  • No. I use ReadyBoost to take less writing off the hard drive. In essence, it saves you battery life and performance at the same time...

Yes, it would make a difference for you. It wouldn't make a difference, if not make your PC any slower, if you had around +16GB of RAM... I don't recommend ReadyBoost for those really fast systems; because it would just slow it down if anything... ;)

ReadyBoost does help with 64-Bit OS's, but again, it'll speed up any OS! :)

  • Will readyboost work with Windows XP? I've heard some things saying that it's just the same as virtual memory.

  • Yes, you can set your Virtual Memory to your flash memory card... Same thing, but in Vista it's a bit easier to set up.

  • i got 4gb ram so is that why i cant tell a diffrence or am i just a fucking retard and doing somthing wrong lol

  • Nice. ;)

  • also 4gb and no difference with 3gb of readyboost

  • With this can I reduce loading time on pc games?

  • Probably not.

  • i have an 250gb external hard drive. and i could only add 4gb to the computer wtf i wanna add like 200gb to the computer so it could speed up like a mother fucker runing at 5ghz hahahahahahaha i wish i could make it 5ghz

  • Using a hard drive would be slower than using Flash-based memory. That just ruins the part about Readboost. Flash memory is faster than your hard drive... It would probably slow it down if you added 250GB hard drive as Readyboost...

  • dude no your the wrong one i added 4gb and its way faster

  • ok so my notebook comes with a hybrid HDD, can i still add another 4gb SD card and turn readyboost on? can the hybrid HDD and readyboost work together?

    cheers~~

  • You meaning virtual memory and readyboost will work together... Yep, they should. But your HD is typically slower than a flash memory card... It's just how it is...

  • wait a sec, what is it, ram or hard drive space that it gives u. Ur ram is not the hard drive. The ram is the memory chips in the pc

  • Can we still take advantage of the ram gained even if we removed the drive?

    and how?

  • Haha, there no RAM gained. It's not RAM guys! It's Virtual Memory. Your computer will not report any more RAM; because it just isn't RAM. It's using the drive to write stuff that would be written to your hard drive... Since flash memory is faster, this makes it a lot faster than using your hard drive... If you remove the drive, obviously Vista won't use it for Virtual Memory, and just use your hard drive instead (which Windows does by default). ;)

  • so are you saying that if I had a 1 TB hard drive, and it recognized it as a flash drive that I would be able to brag that I have have 1.003 TB of RAM (the 3 being the RAM I have now)

  • That is not RAM. That is virtual RAM. ;) Windows will not report it as real RAM. It's just virtual RAM. And besides, RAM is a lot faster than your hard drive. You really wouldn't want to rely on a hard drive for your RAM anyways....

  • I have a problem. I have a flash drive that is 1 gb, and when I started using it for readyboost, and everytime I restart it says: "disk error; press any key to restart" and It will do that until I take my drive out. the file system is fat and there is nothing on it. what is happening?

  • Right click the drive and press format. Format it in FAT32. :) Keep the rest of the settings default.

  • Woops, just accidentally deleted a comment there... Was some spammers, and just simply removed all of them. Clicked too much there. Wow, I double click way to fast...

  • Well, I don't know about that one. But, it does work very nicely. Yeah, I'll probably get 3GB in this system if I stick with Vista.

  • Just remember if your going to go 3gb+ you need a 64bit OS.

  • That comment is for others who are viewing :D

  • You might not even be able to detect all +3GB either. I've seen that happen too. Even in 64-Bit.

  • Dont forget also SATA II is quick enough for Pagefiles. Especially if you have an array set up for top speed.

  • My HD is setup to run at the fastest performance already. And, now in days, we get around 80mb/s now. Which is amazing. So, your HD could be better than your flash drive. Especially if you own a SSD Hard Drive.

  • Question for ya, lets say I have 4 gigs of ram installed, if I add this flash drive thing, does that mean I have 6 gigs of ram in total? Thanks.

  • No, it doesn't count it as RAM that way. Although it does us it the same way it used RAM. If you added a 2GB card to ReadyBoost of course.

  • Gotta question for ya, How does it work exatly? Like if lets say I have 4 gigs of ram installed already, if I add this flash drive thing, does that mean I will have a total of 6 gigs of ram? Thanks.
